First of all, this is absolutely incredible -- thank you to everyone who had a part in bringing this to fruition.

In any case, I'm stuck! I hesitate to say I 'just' got Speed Booster (and as a result, Spazer), because I've done three ridiculous (well, only one was crazy) Shinespark loops to grab some items (hooray more Energy Tanks!). In theory, my next items should be Wave Beam, then Gravity Suit, and maybe X-Ray Scope thrown in somewhere?

If anyone could tell me which side of which area I need to visit next (specifics aren't neccessary), I would really appreiciate it.

Leno_jr, thanks a bunch! That's exactly the kind of hint that I was looking for. Now I can still explore and find everything -- I'll be sure to try it tonight when I get home from work.

Alright, sorry to keep asking for more help, but I have found the large water portion of Crateria (thanks to the X-Ray Scope and a lot of persistence). I need some help though -- where are the hi-jump boots? I've read the whole forum, and apparently they're not in this new area, but further back somewhere I've already visited.

Would someone mind telling me where they are? I'm very anxious to see how Maridia (and the Lost Caverns ahead) turned out.

Edit: Found them -- again, X-Ray everything! Can't believe they are in that spot, and I wish I would have found it 6 hours ago.

I'm stuck again (sorry for bugging everyone in advance) -- Is there something I have to accomplish in Maridia before I can go anywhere? I have explored what is multiple screens left to right on my map, but cannot find anything. Pointers on where to go would be very helpful.

My map is attached -- I am also aware of the upper right exit to the very lower right room (it was an incredibly long shinespark) -- it was a red door that loops around neatly to the right, and I found nothing useful inside of the passages there except lots of sand).

For Norfair, it's actually fairly easy, once you know where to stop:

1) Start with full health -- there's a health machine not to far away in Brinstar just before the elevator.

2) Run to the right one screen through the door next to the reflectors.

3) Proceed through the bomb maze and don't worry (yet) about the top of it -- just proceed right and through.

4) In this room, proceed slowly! You will see those red bugs that rise as one and split into 5 -- shoot missiles at them until you are at full health again.

5) Once you are at full health, run back to the left and finish off the bomb jumping maze (it's not that hard if you practice in Crateria, where there are many similar spots). Your reward is the fourth energy tank!

6) Once you get it, go back to the bugs and recharge, then go up to brinstar and save!!!

7) Proceed through Norfair, stop at the bugs, and continue on with 4 energy tanks. You'll make it with 4...just keep moving!

If you're not used to running Norfair without the Varia, don't be discouraged -- this is the physically hardest part of the game (so far, anyway...I haven't finished it yet). Just remember to keep the run button held down, and make maintaining your momentum a priority.

Thanks -- hopefully I haven't been too much of a bother :p

Edit: Went home, and the answer was right in front of me. Well, a tricky Shinespark away. Killed Draygon, got the special item afterwards -- had to shinespark for it too though...I hate sand.

In any case, from reading (by the way, people asking for help here should consider reading the metroid2002 forums as well -- they address a few different questions for people who aren't very far and are stuck on the common problems) I know that Lower Norfair is next, and hopefully it won't take me too long to find it.

Drewseph, the game just keeps getting better -- I love how you've changed the Screw Attack's physics...bravo!

Finished! 17 hours something, and 69.5% -- horrible.

The escape sequence was probably the most exciting part of all of it -- Drewseph (and Kejardon, and everyone else who had a hand in this at all), you've done an absolutely incredible job with the game. I haven't enjoyed anything this much since Castlevania SOTN.

If you still need beta testers, I would be happy to give your hack a shot. I don't have a lot of credentials unfortunately -- I'm a 4th year music major at a large public US university (Iowa State if anyone's curious), so at the least I'm not a whiny 13 year old.

Oh, and I beat Drewseph's Metroid hack without asking _too_ many questions :p

I forgot the one on the far right -- it was actually on my map, but I didn't bomb the appropriate area:

Look at your Norfair map and find the rightmost energy/missile refill -- it should be in the vicinity of the Screw Attack. In map squares, go 3 down and all the way left (to the wall). You should find yourself in a room with a power bomb powerup...bomb away, and the statue will reveal itself.

If you have that one, the the other one is far to the left -- powerbomb bridges with lava beneath.

Hope this helps, and good luck in Tourian!

For those of you having trouble getting the Metroids off of you:

Jump up and morph into a ball mid-leap. As you ascend, lay a bomb. Time it so that you pass through the bomb's explosion on the way down. The metroid(s) will fly up and off of you for a split second. Use that time to unmorph, point your gun upwards (hold L+R for this, hitting the up arrow won't be fast enough), and shoot!

You would have to program all of the new moves yourself -- just adding the frames of animation isn't enough. If you've never done ASM hacking before, it's probably either beyond you, or will require lots of patience / reading on your part.

Kaleb, it seems like you're enjoying it overall. Assuming that you continue to persevere, three energy tanks is a fine number with which to begin the Norfair Hell Run. If you need help with it, look in this thread -- it's covered almost to completion.

Still working at it, Kas? One more hint for you -- the metal doors will only open when there aren't metroids around. So don't collect what they drop every time. Also, if you have a metroid attached to you, you may as well screw attack through the rest of it (they won't damage you during an SA) letting all the others attach as well. Then stop, shake them quickly, and kill them all at once -- it's the only way I got through a couple of the last areas.

Corret, ajstal. Picture a pyramid shape with a square base. For our purposes right now, you can paint the pyramid whatever you want it to look like, but you can't change the shape of it at all -- no matter how you paint it, it's still going to be a pyramid.

Also, keep in mind that energy tank #4 is accessible to you during the run...have you played through Prime, by chance? :p

The tank I was referring to is in the morph-ball room (the 1st "new" room after you begin the run if memory serves). You'll have to pass through it from the left, refill on the bugs, and then run back left. At the top of the bomb-jump puzzle (ripped directly from Prime, hence my reference) is the 4th tank. Getting it will make the Hell Run much easier (although I will tell you it can be done without it).

If it's possible, some Jason (as in him, not the tank) upgrades are interesting in theory, but the more I think about that idea, the less I like it. I'm leaving these two sentences solely for the purpose of inspiring others to think of something useful here. :p

In lieu of that, you could add the ability to "catch" a wall mid-jump -- blocking corners etc. with spikes would make this neccessary: (x = spike)

_ <-- climb to the top, and proceed through my profile :p

|
| <-- catch the wall here
|xx
|xx <-- hover here

The grappling beam is in the far right part of Norfair (go to the left first, and circle around to the far far right).

After that, the high jump boots are a place you've already been (seriously, you'll kick yourself), and the gravity suit is found around an extremely large body of water (you'll know it when you finally get there).

Sorry for the double post -- I thought I may as well post in the correct thread.

My biggest complaint about movement (besides the walking down walls in level 8) was that I couldn't jump to the wall and catch it midair. Adding said powerup would rock. You could block off spaces with spikes to make it necessary:

| | spikes ---->
|
|
|xx
|xx
|xx
|xx

So jump, catch wall, drive up through tiny space (which isn't even always neccesary with proper spike placement), and continue game.
