Welcome... to what may become the first unnofficial "Graphics Contest" of this board, the first ever Pixel Avatar Contest! Okay... so I bet you are wondering what this is all about, yes? Well then, let me just tell you. This is a contest for making 60x60 avatars, all which will fall under six categories seen below. The catch is, that they must all be hand drawn, and in pixel. Pixel being such as anything you would find in an SNES game. Thats pretty much it. Let your creativity fly and see what you come up with. There are a few more restrictions, but we will get to those. As for why you should enter. Should you take first place, you will get a nice, big winner logo that you can display pretty much anywhere. Bio, signature, wherever. Plus, a chance to judge in the next competition (whenever that comes up, you never know ). This is also a great incentive for you to pick up those unfinished projects and get them done. Plus it's fun to see what people will come up with!
What will happen is. You can enter up to five seperate avatars into this contest for judging. The panel of judges which have already been chosen, will rate them from a 1-10. The average of the scores will be taken, and the highest scorer will win. Now, depending on how many people enter, the judging will be based on categorys, or it will be a "Judge everything and the best one wins". So, the more people that enter, the more chances you have to win 
So, as for the six categories I had mentioned earlier. Every avatar you enter will fall under one of these categories. If your avatar falls under multiple ones, pick the category that your avatar would mostly fall under. If you want an example of each, you have them, displayed below. Categories --Graphically Intense (For those that like to go over the top) -This category is for anything incredibly detailed, that a person would spend a long time on to get every pixel right. Now, there is no "graphical standard" for this category, but the more detailed the avatar is, the better off you will be. Any logos and/or banner types should go under this category. 
--Personal Bests (For you to display personal info) -This category displays who you are, and what you have. Postcount, username, etc. We should be able to look at the avatar, and know something about you. Decorations are a big plus, and should be added for more points. Anything that has this, goes under this category. 
--Retro Gamers (For those who love to rip sprites) -This is where all ripped sprites, and minor-edit sprite avatars go. So, all you Kirby, Mario, Sonic, etc lovers, show off your best assembly skills in this category. Minor-edit sprites, if done well, will get you extra points. 
--Spriting Wonders (For those who love to make their own sprites) -This is for those people who really let their mouse and color skills shine. Personally made sprites of all sorts go in here. Like we havae said before, the more detailed, the better off you are going to be.

--Humor and Craziness (For the flat out funny) -This is the category to make us laugh, or for those off the wall entries. Sprites may be present here, but the main theme we are looking at is humor and craziness. Please, no seizure pixels... pretend you have to stare at this avatar for the rest of your life... will you get annoyed? 
--Animations (For those who love to shine in motion) -Probably the most interesting category. Any animations, no matter how short, or long, will go in this category. The only exception are palette animations, which will go in their appropriate section. Go ahead and combine categories, just make sure the animation is fluid and done right.
So thats what this is all about. Just a few loose ends to tie up now... so read the restrictions and keep them in mind when drawing. Restrictions 1) Must be in pixel format. Thats why it's a pixel avatar contest. 2) Must be a 60x60 avatar. No more, no less. Its an avatar, remember? 3) No NSFW. Period. 4) Along with no NSFW, please don't make things that will make us want to tear out our eyes... or give us seizures 5) A 5 entry per person limit. You may post as many as you like, just set aside the five you want judged. 6) GIF or PNG format only guys. Theres obviously going to be a lot of images, especially for me (50 posts per page people). Lets keep the file-sizes small, okay?
7) If you are going to go off of the Retro Gamer category, make sure that your sprite fits. 8) Speaking of sprites. Sprite edits will all fall under the Retro Gamer category, unless its like, drastically edited. Because recolors are not original...
9) Absolutely no filters or effects. Those aren't pixeling. 10) Custom sprites of say, big name characters, so long as they arent totally similar to normal sprites, will go under Spriting Wonders. 11) Realize that any entry has to be your own work. Nobody elses (Except for the Retro Gaming category). Keep that in mind. Now that you have a general idea of what to expect, you can get started. And if you would like to help spread the word, feel free to stick one of these two userbars in your signature. Make sure you include the link as well.
