Oh man, that's bad. If you're going to question the girl at school then don't lie to the parents, that's just bad form. And who yells at a 14 year old girl, come on secret service, be professional. Good point Glyph, I think we have a serious problem when a myspace page is assessed as an actuall threat to the president. I didn't see the picture, but it was probably horribly photoshoped, and when you find out it's a 14 year old rich girl, a letter saying don't do that, we don't like it, would probably suffice, no need to have the government mad at you.

Guess nobody's from Cali. If I want a burger the only place to go is In n' Out burger. Greatest fast food joint in the world (or, I guess only California, 2 in Nevada and a handful in AZ, too bad the rest of you suckas don't get it). Other than that I'd go Steak n' Shake followed by Jimmy Johns. But really, why go to fast food when you can hop over to a real deli and get some real sandwiches.

I've seen a lot of release posters for that around the city, what exactly is the general concept of the movie? I think Clive Owen is a great actor so I was intrigued just by that.

Let's just end this debate over what the definitions of Atheist/Agnostic/Theist are...

Atheist - A person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Agnostic - A person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
Theist - One who believes in the existence of a god or gods.

And an exerpt from the Atheist page
Originally posted by www.dictionary.com on Atheism v Agnosticism
An atheist is one who denies the existence of a deity or of divine beings. An agnostic is one who believes it impossible to know anything about God or about the creation of the universe and refrains from commitment to any religious doctrine.

From what I gather from these definitions, an Atheist would be someone who, given the evidence presented to them, does not believe in a god but given a change in evidence leading to a strong proof of a god would accept that god. An Agnostic would be someone who does not think it is possible to make a judgement either way regarding the existance of a supreme being and even if evidence changed to make it highly plausible that there was a supreme being would still believe that there is no way to ascertain the nature of a god and would still not accept the new evidence.

Hope that clears up some of the issues about who/what is Atheist/Agnostic.

And last I've checked, I'm pretty sure that my vote hasn't been counted ever since I started doing absentee balots, because well, they seem to only count those on close races, which doesn't really fit to the purpose of everyone getting to vote, but alas, what am I to do.

I think it's funny how people think that liberals actually liked Kerry. I'm quite liberal and there was nothing I saw that appealing in Kerry, other than the fact that he wasn't Bush. When people are voting for someone they see as pretty much worthless and not that good just because they aren't you, you know you've got a serious disconnect with the people of your nation.

My issue with what happened is that they went around the parents. The parents were informed about what happened and they asked the SS if they could be present when their daughter was questioned. The SS said that they would wait for the daughter to be with her parents and then went to the school to question the student. They lied to the principle, saying that the parents knew they were coming to the school, and they lied to the parents by directly going to the school. If they had told the parents no, we're going to question your daughter now without you there, then well, that's what they're going to do, but there's no reason to decieve the parents. And I think there's actually a legal sense that concerning minors parents must be kept in the loop about what is going on in investigations. This event isn't a violation of free speech, it's just the government via the SS being a bunch of lying dicks. And you can't deny, living in the world that we live in, that when an agent of the government screws up it elevates itself to the government screwing up, that's just how our society works, right or wrong.

From what I read of this the SS mislead both the parents and the assistant principle. If it was truly a miscommunication then I guess the issue really isn't that bad. The part in bold clears up what I thought was different in my previous post, there is no requirement for the parents to be there.

Not sure if where you're going to school so I'm just going to give you my perspective from an american university. First things first, you're not even in college yet so you definately have time to decide what you want to do, hell I didn't decide until I finished my freshman year of college. I came into college with the same dream I had had since I was 4 when I got an NES and Mario and Zelda. I started out in Computer Science so that I could eventually go into game design. After a year I realized that I didn't really want to do that and transfered over to the electrical engineering department to work on signal processing and power systems. I guess both disciplines are in the engineering college but they have very different course loads and subjects and my final goal is very different (automotive sound systems and automotive controll schemes). So I'm going to say go for it. My roommate is a psych major and he wants to do family psych (which seems similar to what you want to do). He's not getting a doctorate and I don't think he needs to get a PhD to go into practicing as a psychologist (I think he's only getting a post graduate degree but not a doctorate, not positive about that though). Do what you love and the money will come, don't follow a subject because it's going to make you money, you'll just end up as a business major (I had to do it, I'm an engineer) uniterested and working in a dull workplace and the money won't be enough to make you happy. Most importantly, don't stress too much, you're in high school and you have plenty of time to decide what you want to do and if you already know what it is that you love you're way ahead of nearly everyone in your situation. Hell, knowing what I wanted to do with my degree after my sophomore year of college was shocking to most people, they still didn't know what they were going to do after they graduated.

When someone posts in a topic that's been empty for three months. Sorry, just kidding, but it had to be said.

My pet peeve is people that are incessantly immature. I'm okay when people get drunk and do stupid things, or when people are just being stupid for no reason, but when people are constantly acting like they're still in high school pulling the same bull shit that was expected of high schoolers but shouldn't be going on in college it just infuriates me. My roommate's girlfriend is like that, we used to be friends, but after about three months I realized how down right annoying she was and I almost can't stay in the same room with her.

You both seem to be misinformed. There is no requirement for a lawyer to be there when questioned, the person only needs to be informed that they have the option of requesting a lawyer. Also, even so, if that is not done there is nothing saying they cannot question you, it's just that the interogation cannot be used in a judicial proceeding. If they knew that this wasn't going to be a threat then there is no need for them to tell the girl she can have a lawyer and no need to wait for a lawyer to show up. Now, if it turned out that she was infact a dangerous terrorist mastermind, all the info that they had extracted from her in their interogation would be moot in the court of law.

Also, I'm not positive that they interogated her, more like a stern talking to. Also, there is no obligation for the parents to be there.

God, what a increadibly stressful weekend, I think I actually dying and then was saved from it in the last minute of that game. Why does ND play like shit except for when it's absolutely necessary, or against Michigan. So, who do you think the two people are who are voting for WV as number one in the AP?

I agree mostly with what you have to say, the system is doing a lot to attempt to inform people about what is in games but there are probably some changes that can be made to improve the rating system. I think the issues with the description of content in games is more related to parents not understanding games. What exactly is more vague between descriptors of "mature themes" and "thematic eleements". Both of those are arbitrarily vague, but parents are used to seeing thematic elements as a description of movies and understand the basics of what it means, but they don't necessarily have anything to relate to mature themes for video games. This is why the system might need to find ways to relate their ratings toward film ratings so that parents won't be so perplexed by it. I do feel though that the rating system for games isn't that confusing, it's more that parents just haven't taken the time to look into it. I have heard parents at rental places tell their kids that they can pick up any game, as long as it isn't rated M. And then I see some letting their kids get any game but check out the rating and if the descriptors of the M rated game aren't ones that they disapprove of then they let the kid get the game. But the majority of what I see is parents allowing their kids to get any game and then being shocked when there is content in the game that they didn't expect, even though the content is described on the box.

In response to your second point. I think the more important issue is what are the affects going to be of the Unite States' actions to spread democracy throughout the world. Many people in countries that we are trying to spread democracy to are not all that happy with the US. It's pretty much evident that the US is going to slip out of power sometime in the next 50 years, so what are the nations that become more powerful than us going to do about our actions that we've taken now. If they follow suit with what we've done, they will ignore us if there is something they really want done, and if that thing isn't democracy we're going to be stuck just having to sit back and deal with it. Maybe we should be trying to promote a more positive image of the US rather than adding fuel to the fire of our negative PR campaign. Maybe war and overthrowing of governments is not the only solution to the problems of the world.

Can't say how happy I am about OSU beating USC, gotta love it. And now it's time for my Bears to run away with the Pac 10 championship. Now, if ND wins out then both of my teams will be in BCS games, couldn't get any better. Hopefully the games play out to get ND in the National Championship game (this would take quite an interesting turn of events, Mich or Ohio State destroying one or the other in their game, and the other 6 top ten teams messing up, but it's still possible). And Miami lost again, see you later Coker. Quality quote from one of his players, "As a player, I think he's the greatest coach and we all believe in him and trust him," Morse said. "We'd die for him." Should've thought about that when you all broke into that fight causing Coker's career to come into the danger it's in right now.

Rubixcuber: 0*(1/0)^1 != 0. Zero multiplied by undifined does not equal zero.

As for limits, they don't tell you the value of 1/0, or 0/0, or any other ambiguous fraction. Say you take the limit as x --> 0 of sin(x)/x (aka 0/0 at x=0) The result of the limit will give you 1, but sin(x)/x at x=0 will still be undefined. You use the limit to make a point substitution for f(x) at x=0 to be f(0)=1 and then sin(x)/x will be continuous if you define f(x) to be sin(x)/x for all x != 0 and f(0) to be 1

As for the arguement at hand (1/0)^-1 is undefined. If you do order of operations you get 1/0 first as others have stated. If you chose to rewrite it you get (1^-1)/(0^-1) which gives you 1/undefined.

And you shouldn't be using calculators to prove mathmatical ideas, use theorems and proofs, because calculators take shortcuts that don't use mathmatical principles all the time. They often use approximations and physical relations to come up with methods that give the correct solution to a good degree of accuracy but that fail under certain situations.

Ah the joys of the BCS. Gotta love how a new twist to the controversy opens up every year. Or maybe it's the same controversy just with different teams.

Anyways, ND won (quinn only threw 20 passes and had 4 TDs, that's a nice percentage). In sadder news, Cal lost, that sucks big time, they better beat USC if they want anything good to come of this season.
