They may have wanted to punish Anna for killing one of them. Also, I don't think Michael's been converted to an other, I think he's doing it all for Walt's sake. Also, isn't the bearded other actually not bearded and just uses that fake beard that was found in the medical hatch where Claire was being held.

Yeah, I wouldn't go so far to say they're peaceful. They think they're doing the right thing, but taking a woman away, keeping her drugged up, and then planning on forcibly removing her baby by c-section and leaving her to fend for herself afterwards is not peaceful. No matter how dire the situation is there's really no justifiable reason to keep Claire away from her baby. Also, they do use pretty ruthless tactics in taking people and using people to get what they want.

Back to a slightly older topic in here, the difference between food services and energy providers is that there are many fold more food providers than energy providers. And energy providers are much more willing to work together to keep prices up. The only thing that keeps OPEC from gauging us even more is that Russia sometime steps in a says, "hey OPEC, we've got lot's of oil too and we're gonna screw you and under bid you by a whole lot." Then OPEC is forced to bring their prices down. And as it appears, many energy providers seem to have corupt financial dealings al a Enron and basically the colapse of all energy providers in California. For example, Enron posted for bankruptcy after having posted two years straight of increased profits. Now accounting like that just doesn't make any sense.

Sorry for the rant, I've got lots of pent up rage against the energy industry and it's inability to accept responsibility for itself and the welfare of the future of the world by refusing to do any meaningful research into renewable and clean energies.

Yeah, the people that crashed in the plane didn't go out and start attacking the others. The bearded dude said that they didn't like how the crash victims were hunting their food and taking their fruit, but hey, just cause you got trapped on the island first doesn't mean that you can keep all the resources to yourself and kill everyone else.

Interesting idea and I'm begining to believe it more and more is that the island is purgatory. It makes sense because almost everyone on the island had a bad past (Still haven't figured out what Jack and Locke did, but I'm sure that'll pop up eventually). If you look at what's going on they're all being tested. And when they pass their tests they get out (either by death or being taken by the others). The others said that they take the good people, and the people that they took right after the crash were children and "good" adults. If you look at most of the people that die it's after they've changed. Shanon went out looking for Walt which showed she cared about someone else more than herself. Anna died after she couldn't kill Henry. Haven't figured out why Libby died and Boon just seemed to have died after a little bit of time (which makes sense because he didn't seem to do anything that bad and just had to spend some time there). That would make the Others the testers of the people, they present a situation that forces the true character of the person to be expressed and if that character is good then they pass, otherwise they stay on the island. There are definately some holes, and rather large ones, in this theory but right now I think it works for the most part.

Question: How many of you watch LOST by getting it from iTunes?

I gotta go with fourth and sixth. I loved my SNES and Genesis, those games were simple and increadibly fun to play. I still find myself playing Sonic I and II, SMW and SFII:turbo. Apart from those systems the only other games I play are on my GameCube. Every single Resident Evil game on the system is amazing but that's because the Resident Evil series is my favorite of all time. Then there's SSBM, a very stereotypical GCN game but hell, it's awesome to play with four players.

Do you have a cell phone or other signal broadcasting device near it. Those can interfere with the signals going through the wires and cause buzzing. Also make sure the connection is tight and complete.

Hey, I've been trying to download AIM on my Mac and it just doesn't work. It says that the file type can't be opened. It's a .exe file but all the other install files I've gotten have been .pkg files. Does anyone know how to fix this (either by a link to a .pkg file or to a program that opens .exe files)

Holy Crap, that was awesome. The only negative about it is that it's opened up so many new questions. Most noteably, when are we gonna see Walt again and find out why he was too much for the others to handle. Also, what happened to Locke, Eko, and Desmund. And how do those crazy Antartic people know to look for electromagnetic invariances to find Desmund. Damn, I need to sleep on this to clear everything through and having to wait till september is going to drive me crazy.

I've heard that if you play the parts where shannon sees walt in the forest backwards that he says something like "Push the button or you'll be in danger" or something to that effect. I haven't tried that but that would be some crazy stuff if it's true. Also, I just rewatched the finally and Henry says that "We got more than we bargained for when walt joined us." I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do to get walt back on the island cause there's no way they'd be mean enough to leave us with no explanation of what walt's powers were. Also, Jack and Kate definately look like they have a plan going on, but I have no idea what it could be.

I got my laptop from iBuyPower.com and aside from someone using it as a toilet it worked and lasted perfectly for a year (and probably would have survived much longer without the incident that lead to my insurance actually paying off for once). They've got pretty good prices but as far as I know they have no customer service, other than complaints in hardware for which they will replace it if it their fault. One bit of advice about their laptops, do not get one without a mobile processor. I had a P4 in mine and it ate up battery life mad crazy. Also, their laptops are not the lightest ones around, they're not exceedingly heavy, but they aren't light either.

A seventeen inch display is huge and you'll really have to hunt to find a bag that it will fit in if you want to bring it somewhere. Other than that 2 vs 1.6 gHz is a 25% increase but I'm not sure of actuall differences that means but I'd expect it to improve significantly.

Posted on 06-14-06 02:45 PM, in Proportional Representation Link
Very good point, witeasprinwow. The US is so much larger than other countries that have proportional representation that it would create a congress of so many parties that nothing would get done unless the parties banded together and we'd be left with what we have now. I do think the US needs to rethink it's federal government system because as of now there are very easy ways to get elected that don't really depend on much of your opinions on the issues, just your opion on one or two of the issues. For example, if you're running in a fairly conservative state, you bring up abortion, same sex marriage, or anything highly liberal and you can basically win by saying you don't support them and your opponant does. I've heard people say they won't vote for someone who isn't strickly against abortion (even if they are against creating a greater chance for abortions and would actually like to limit the number of abortions) and therefore will vote for someone who maybe hasn't said anything about their opinions on economics, healthcare, social welfare, foreign policy, etc. I hate how much our country is run on party lines and how politicians use that to get what they want even at the expense of the welfare of the country. For example, the representative from Pittsburgh said that he would vote to allow the amendment on same sex marriage to go to a vote because he believed it would help the party get more strength in the upcoming elections but said that he was very much so against the bill and would not vote for it when it came to passing it as a piece of legislature. And democrats are equally guilty, that's just the only example I have right now but things like that go on all the time and it's just so upsetting to see the mindsets and ethics of the people that are running our country.

Posted on 06-25-06 02:50 PM, in Wii, 360 or PS3? Link
I'm definately going with the Wii for price and novelty of games. Also, they have some great games coming out (new RE game) and though the GC had a slow start it picked up later in it's life and had some increadible games (RE games, first party games, NFS). I might pick up a Xbox360 later when games I want come out on it, like Assassins Creed. But the PS3 is going to destroy sony's dominance on the market because they are leaving the price ranges of the gaming market and they are not getting exclusives like they used to. The 360 is getting a lot of the games that were supposedly exclusives on the PS3 and even the Wii is getting some of those games. And the Wii will pick up some great market share for nintendo because it's a great follow up system. A lot of people want to get either an Xbox360 or a PS3, but a lot of those people will also pick up a Wii because it's cheap, should have some great first party games, and it's realatively small. So nintendo's plan, if it goes according to plan, and I think it will, is going to bring them up to speed with sony and microsoft. Like was said earlier, they may still be in third, but they won't be so far back that sony and microsoft don't pay them any attention.

I have a 512mb iPod shuffle and a 4 gig iPod mini and let's just say I could fill it many times over. I have over 65 gigs of music and I've always wondered what it would be like to have it on one mp3 player. I don't think I'd like it, it would take to long to go through. I'd much rather prefer just making playlists and adding them to a smaller player, say 20-30 gigs.

I got two part times right now.
First one is doing mail, 9am-1pm, second one's doing research, 2pm-6pm. It's almost full time but the pay is attrocious ($5 for the first, $7.50 for the second). And to think, if the hardware store I used to work at didn't get sold I'd be making $15 an hour, how great would that have been, and it would've been 50+ hours a week, damn.

Oh well, the only moderately comforting idea about tailgating is that if they crash into the back of you due to their idiocy, it's THEIR fault and they have to pay all the insurance.

Good luck trying to prove that they were 100% at fault, cause if you can't, you've got that niffty little hike in insurance for the next three years, which nobody enjoys.

On a side note, the problem isn't people that speed, it's people that drive reckless. And before you jump on me for this, there is a way to speed without being reckless. I hate being in the car with one of my friends because he's reckless, and it doesn't really matter weather he's driving fast or slow, he just doesn't pay attention to what's going on. On the other hand, my best friend and I both usually drive 10-20 over the speed limit in just about any situation, but the difference is that we are both really attentive drivers and could probably name off every make, model, year, color, and modification on every single car that we passed in the last hour, not to mention every single pot hole, mis-painted lane line, bent traffic sign, etc. Driving is all about being aware and having control of your vehicle. If you can do that, then it doesn't really matter how fast you drive, you're probably 100 times safer than the person who isn't in control of their vehicle going the speed limit.

Ok, I'm done with my rant on how speeding isn't an evil thing. And I do agree that racing is probably the dumbest thing you can do (at least on regular streets, racing at tracks in a racing environment is a ton of fun and not a bad thing at all). Roads are not meant to be raced on, they don't have the care that race tracks get, little dips, pot holes, and in general uneven and beaten to shit pavement do not mix well with racing speeds and movements.

That's a pretty increadible law. I know that where I live it's case by case for the exact reason you stated in the last part of your post. People were scamming insurance companies like crazy, so now they investigate it. And I'm pretty sure if you rearend someone where you live but have a really good insurance investigation team that can prove that the person in front of you was driving 65 and just decided to mash the brakes for no reason aside from making you crash you could probably get them to pay for it.

I'd rather see a third Chrono game. I do think they shouild port CT to DS because it wouldn't be that difficult and it would be a great thing to give to newer gamers, but there's a good chance it won't happen because it could be on the Wii as a download (I haven't looked up what games/producers are going to be available for download).
And on a more personal note, Xenogears had a much better story than Final Fantasy games of the time. I felt the characters (well, aside from Rico and Billy) were developed a lot more than any FF character and I enjoyed the battle system, a nice change from all the other RPGs I had been playing.
