I have to disagree with that, I'd say over 50% of the people here either lost intrest in rom hacking altogether, or came because of friends/story forum/the community[general, craziness].

As for the whole approved thing, it's a matter of are you getting more idiots, or more good users. the consensus[sp?] is more idiots, so rather than selectively removing the idiots [which is what we've been doing the past 5 years] we are chosing to selectively chose who gets to post there, and who doesn't. That's the logic I see behind this, anyway, I don't really have an opinion on wether this is 'right' or 'wrong,' as it sounds good on paper, until you have people who think it's a pain, are too lazy to post a thread stating they've read the FAQ, or want to make a stand for the sake of "freedom."

Posted on 08-15-06 02:14 PM, in SURVEY: What is art? Link

+ What do you consider art?
-- anything that can be viewed upon or listened to and appeal to someone; art can be anything from toothpicks stacked up to form a model bridge, to an interactive demo coded in brainfuck.

+ What do you look/care for?
there are a few key things I look for, or rather, try to look for.
--technique
--style
--overall design
--the "feel" [one I can usually not sense these days]

+ How do you usually interpret art?
-- n/a

+ What is art?
--I believe I answered this in the first question.

+ How does html and different colored borders fit into the art category?
-- it can generate a "theme," and show a user knows how to use a language to manipulate the look and feel of something. there is a technique to that, just as there is a technique to drawing the anatomy of a person, or making a tree with pixelart.

+ What kind of art appeals to you?
-- demoscene pixelart, some paintings, B&W sketches, mostly scenery, some abstract.

+ What elements do you appreciate most?
-- I mostly appreciate the "feel" and "design" of a piece, because those are two elements I suck at convey'ing.

+ How important do you think a critique is? In other words, what value do you place it upon when you're the one giving a critique?
-- I believe critique is a very important thing. For years I was getting none, and my skill level stayed the same [I sucked ass], I went into a community who did nothing but critique artwork, and I came out a much better artist for it.

+ Do you really seek improvement in your own skills?
-- Of course, there is no roof to how good something can be, if you think you know everything, there's still at least one more thing to learn, one new technique to try, some new "feeling" to convey.

+ What purpose do you pursue in your creations?
-- ATM, I am seeking to build a portfolio of work; Other times my purpose is please the client, before the deadline if possible. when I'm working on 'hobby art' the only purpose I have is to make it "look good," which gives me alot of freedom.

+ How much effort do you put into your work and what duration of time working on your project is considered hard work?
-- I usually work on something until I can't see any possible way to improve upon it, and when I show others, they approve of it. For what duration of time is considered hardwork depends mostly on what type of art it is, how big it is, and what it's needed for, ie. I was able to make a website layout in 15 minutes of hard work, because they are to be viewed casually, and not studied, they look good for their purpose, and that is all they are meant to look good for. I take into consideration what size a work is meant to be viewed in before even making it, and depending on how much detail I need, I will put in even more hard work.

If you wish to grow, I would hardly consider dA the place to do it. Especially with their new layout, its so lame . Hope I was specific enough for you ;p

QFT.

it's not going to be legal any way you do it, so just accept that what you're doing can get you in trouble. More ways to do something means that companies will put more effort into stopping you.

There was really only ever one speedrun I enjoyed. [sonic advance 2; because it was insanely ZOOM]
the idea of a commentary is always good, but OoT sucked so bad I could not possibly sit there and waste hours watching someone play through it
