I would suggest using tables instead of just a background image. view-> page source, scan through to a layout you'd like to get an idea of how to make, steal code, modify so no-one knows, and you're good ;D |

the biggest thing that bothers me is the bright shade on the trunk [seems out of place with the above part of the tree being dark] and the incosistencies with the pixel width around the outline, and the roughness of the black lines in general, the top seems very sketchy compared to the bottom. the shading on the trunk in general seems very off. |

Sadly it's but a mockup :'(. The outlines are somewhat neccessary to make the sprites stand out, though.

[1] [2] for comparison. As you can see, details get lost without it ![]()

Not trying to bootleg your thread, but I'm actually doing just that [note; very WIP], Metal Knuckles. Up for anyone who'd want them when I'm done. I agree that the portraits in FF3/6 were absolutely horrible, looked like shitty color-reduced scans.

Oh, and nothing can redeem that shit chocobo layout. I liked the lightning-ish one best. and the tree one. if I'm even thinking of the same game. I"ll ahve to go check later. (restricted) |

Images are broken, CronoFan, try a host like imagebucket or whatever else.

Dr. mario: I wont disagree it looks smother, but it also nulls the details, and in my eyes, cripples the image. In games with dark backgrounds and dark sprites, [see: gba castlevania games] sprites can get lost in motion without brightness to them. I could explain more but I'm just lazy.
