| Hm. Okay. Well, I'm new here. I really like the way this board works, and how you can customize your profile so efficently to suit your taste.
Currently, I'm not working on any hacks. I'm a big newbie. I like to learn how things work before I go into it. I'd really like to learn some things about FF1 on the NES, and build a new adventure out of it completely. That's far in the future of course. |

| Not only will you revieve this error on Buu's Fury, but on Legacy of Goku 1 and 2 also. It's pretty annoying. I didn't know about the EEPROM setting though. After getting the error I just gave up on the game. | |||

| A bit late of a reply, but I reccomend www.emulator-zone.com too. It has a wide list of different and reccomend emulators for just about any system. It's more organized then Zophar. | |||

| Even niftier; after you've used Lunar IPS at least once, simply click on an IPS file, and LIPS will automatically open and patch the ROM for you with a single click. This saves a bit of time. (edited by VinceIP on 05-29-06 01:22 AM) |

| I admire people who spend time compiling their own graphics. | |||

| Sheesh... Am I missing something, or does it look nearly impossible to jump over to that pipe with the pirahna plant? | |||

| Wouldn't it be illegal to play hacked ROMS that run on patented hardware anyway? Unless Nintendo puts some sort of legal block on NES hacking, it would be fine to play hacked NES ROMS since it no longer has a patent. | |||

| I agree. That is a REALLY cool graphics hack. I hope you carry that one out to the end. | |||

| I don't know about the guide. I didn't like it too much when I read it. Messing around with junk and clicking buttons is one of the best learning experiences! | |||

| That looks really cool and original. I'll have to give it a try later. My impression was that level editing by HEXing was nearly impossible to do. Maybe it's just really simple with Gameboy games. Were you able to find documentation for the game, or did you just figure it out on your own? | |||

| As my first hacking project, I'm going to do a complete overhaul of Final Fantasy 1. A whole new game taking place in the Final Fantasy universe, using the first game as a base. I chose FF1 because it seems to be the most documented and easy to hack.
I want to make it much more in-depth, and contain more dialogue and a non-linear plot. This leads me to some questions. Since FF1 didn't have so much dialogue, besides NPCs and a few major characters, I don't have much room to do a lot of editing. --First of all, is it possible to trigger an event where a text box would automatically pop up containing a character's dialogue without having to walk up to something and pressing A? --Can I make sprites walk a set course, change poses, etc, for story sequences and cutscenes? --Can I automatically trigger a battle without walking around in a dungeon or interacting with a sprite? (Again, for story sequences and such) --Is it possible to change the song currently playing on a board? I'll come up with more questions as I work on my hack, I'm sure. Or should I just switch over to doing a FF3 hack instead since it's more advanced? Anyway, I'd really appreciate any advice. I know this is an ambitious project for my first hack, but I like starting big. It's a good learning experience.
EDIT: Alright, got another question! --How do I change the entrances of shops and inns in FFHackster? I'm working on a new starting town, and want to put them in different places. (edited by VinceIP on 06-24-06 01:38 AM) |

| Okay, thanks. So I guess that means I either learn ASM or go simply not make my game so interactive.
Also I noticed I had an old version of FFHackster, and upgraded, so that should help a lot! I'm sure there'll be more questions soon. |

| Basically, you should just mess around with different suspicious data and see what happens, then record any oddities and findings. If you somehow compile enough data about levels and how they are formatted, you could try writing an editor yourself or request one. |
