Name's theory. A few of you will recognize me from other game forums and other mario forums (from back in the day with SMB1 hacking). I've been reading on this board for two years, and honestly believe I have figured out how to do "anything" with SMW. So to challenge myself I decided to make it an RPG.

Features already added:
+Store Blocks (allow you to buy weapons, suits, and ability upgrades.)
+Levelup system (Right now its every 100000 exp points, will change it.)
+Orbs (In addition to coins some stores charge Orbs for specials, Orbs are rarer.)
+Four "Item Frames" for different level types (Your status bar item box has a colored frame based on what type of level it is, four types of levels you can buy or store four types of items, one for each level type.)
+"Player House" features, including turning on and off purchased items, and saving your game to any of the three slots of your choice.
+Item "Machete" allowing you to spin-jump-cut through vines (there are now some non-passable thick vines, this is the only way through them.)
+Lightable Torches (lit by fireballs). No real purpose yet.
+Mario's Pink Suit: Simple pallete change, but this was actually a big pain in the neck! Mario's pallete being hardcoded is hard to change "on-the-fly". Did get it though.
+Item "Steel Boots", keeps water acting like air.
+Fireball upgrade 1 (lets second fireball run faster than first fireball.)
+Item "Time +100"
+Sticky Time settings, saves your time at the end of a level to RAM, loads it for next level. You have to quite literally buy your time.
+Changed 100 coins now gives you a gold orb instead of 1-up.
+Rideable Shuyguys and Tweeters
+"Friendly" sprites. Toad is the shop dealer (interacts! follows mario around, talks) and there's also friendly levels (towns, with townsfolk).
+"Play as Toad", split mario and luigi graphics, replaced Luigi with Toad, setup 1-player only patch, and made it so high-level users can purchase to play the rest of that life as Toad. Toad has special abilities (jumps higher)
To-dos:
-Setup OW screen to show Orbs and Exp
-Setup OW to support classic SMB3 Pipe levels (enter a level, emerge in a new place on OW) (works, buggy)
-Setup OW to support "Fog of War" (almost done but still ugly looking)
-Setup Status bar to show Orbs correctly.
-Make toad's fireballs behave differently than Mario's.
-Level design.


The fun part of this is the game is set up a lot more SMB2 style, going in and out of caves, etc. I can hide shops with good items in the most pain in the blah areas.

Now the reason I'm posting this so early in development is that if you all have features you'd like to see in it, I need to know now because when the coding is done and I throw it into LM for level design, it will be harder to implement coding due to the way LM changes custom ASM ROMs.

Any comments, questions, or if you want to help out, let me know here or theory@mtaonline.net. Just FYI this hack will be released unprotected because I want to see it take off as a base for even better RPG hacks.

Things I'd love some help with:
+Someone who is good at title screens. I've got special effects out the blah on the title screen but I can't piece together the logo I designed for the life of me.
+A good, CUSTOM GFX (for basic blocks.) I can get this one but if someone else wants to help it will speed up my release. Email me for a list of GFX needed.
+Anybody familiar with the music format that can help me understand what I'm doing. My custom music is coming out ****ed up and too fast.

I replied last night but it looks like the post didn't show up right. Hope it didnt go in some other thread. Basically it stated that I'll have screenies today and I'll do my damnest to have a .ips for you all by tommorow morning. Just be warned it looks like crap as GFX are not a priority yet; hence why I didn't post screenies to begin with becase so far I have done NO levels and NO OW therefore my work is not something a screenie can really capture.

Yea I was expecting exactly what I got from you all, been here long enough to know that. But where there's smoke, there's fire. This time at least.

Glyph Pheonix, email me: theory@mtaonline.net . I'd like to compare your leveling system to my own. Sounds like you might have had a better setup for it. (Credit will be given if I borrow any techniques. Credits already given elsewhere cause not every implemented idea was my own.)

Remember this hack is the work of all of you. I built it by learning things off this thread.

Here it is. The first IPS. If you're looking for something playable, don't bother downloading this. Not all features listed are in this release. This is just a quickly put together demo to show that I really am making this hack. Most of the features are not play-friendly quite yet and therefore aren't here.
Features that are implemented:
SMB3 Classic Pipe Levels (Ugly, but functional.)
Fog of War. (Again, ugly, but functional.)
Friendly Sprites in Mushroom Village. (Doors don't lead anywhere yet.)

Normally this isn't even something I would release, but I don't want the thread closed so with this at least I adhere to the rules. My bad. Will have a release by tommorow that is prettified and hopefully will have the shop friendly enough to use.
Working extremely active on this, will post daily updated .ips until its complete.

Do NOT judge the project by this file. I'll stick your hands in warm water while you sleep.

As an AS-IS release, Bon Appetite.

I have already made a quicksand block for my RPG hack. My internet was down until today but i'll post what I have in a few minutes.

Email me: theory@mtaonline.net and I can send you the files. Or I can post it if you can give me a couple hours to finish burying my phone line.

It's almost perfect except its a little faster and easier to jump out of than SMB3. But that can be adjusted.
