Ooh, sorry, we're looking for examples that are actually COMMON. D&X and D&E, not so much. The CDC sez that as of 2002, just under 1.5% of all abortions are late-term. The number has never topped 1.7%, and that was in 1973, when there were only just over 600,000 abortions performed. For the states where they have the data, less than 10,000 abortions performed in 2002 were after 21 weeks. Also, 2002 was the first year the number of abortions hadn't gone down since 1996. Mind you, the data doesn't mention why the abortions were performed, so you can't say they were people that just didn't feel like having a kid after four months. (It should be noted you also can't say the fetus was going to kill and eat their entire lineage, either.)

Essentially, don't bring two rarely-used procedures to a gunfight.

Speaking of Santorum, we've all seen this, right?

I don't think I need to say anything about the daughter up front. (squirm) Can we still use the Dan Savage-approved definition of "santorum"? Tommathy? Anybody?

It's really pathetic i think, to blow up a botched joke out of context as if it really meant something. What's next? Taking snippets out of books written over a decade ago out of context and trying to make them sound sinister? Why dont we cut individual words out of speeches and re-arrange them till they say something that would hurt the candidate, that's where this is heading.

np: The Game: "One Blood" (Remix)

That's not entirely accurate, actually. It's more like "The Gane feat. Jim Jones, Snoop Dogg, Nas, T.I., Fat Joe, Lil' Wayne, Noreaga, Jadakiss, Styles P, Fabolous, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross, Twista, Kurupt, Daz, WC, E-40, Bun B, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Young Dro, Clipse and Ja Rule". Seriously, how did they get everyone into one studio? That's, what, at least 23 verses? It's almost 12 minutes long. Ridonkulous. Kinda like Twista taking it slow for his bars, then going super-Saiyan near the end of his verse. The sad thing is I only recognized Snoop, Jada, Twista, Ja Rule (sucks)... did I seriously miss Nas? I am made of fail.

Those are exceptionally rare though.
They are rare - the dilation and extraction procedure itself kills roughly 3,000 infants a year, which is a substantial number but still a small percentage overall - but they are still vile. I mean, whatever a person's beliefs regarding abortion, how can anyone argue that a child that literally resembles a fully-formed human baby can be pulled from the womb and killed legally just based on the grounds that its head remains within the mother? I feel like that's a bit of a technicality.

Point of order: how many of those 3,000 D&X's were performed for birth-control reasons? As in, as opposed to because the fetus was endangering the life of the mother. I'm guessing you can't tell. So you can't really talk about those procedures as if they're ALL being performed for non-medical reasons.

Incumbency? I think it's somewhere north of 90%. I vote for taking the power to draw districts out of any party's hands (and I forget the state that does this).

Anyway, what Arwon said about the voting outcome. No incumbent Democratic Senators lost, the Republicans ended up -5 or -6, and the House went more Democratic than was reasonably expected. And I'd be willing to say this wasn't just the traditional sixth-year pounding. The Republicans, at least on a federal level, had gone for their base and rustled up the 50%+1 for three elections. Now, the actions of several prominent Republicans or members of groups with more access to the White House than, say, you, have pissed off the members of that base that yeah, they'd vote against gay marriage, but they'd also vote against the Republicans. At this rate, the evangelical bloc might just stay at home at 2008. But not having their full support, due to the actions of those prominent people, is what killed the Republicans this time. Not just business as usual.

They should be checked into a hospital, nursed back to good health and go through intensive rehab. This idea that people who are addicted to harmful drugs are criminals... is ridiculous. They have a dependancy problem, a severely addiction prone additude and they need help not handcuffs. They need to be shown how to make a better life for themselves, so that harmful activities don't become second nature. Most drug abusers are poor or vagrant. If we helped these people instead of having a policy that denies them housing, welfare and healthcare... America would be safer. Obviously things like crack and such should remain illegal, as they are actually harmful... but when an addict is found he or she shouldn't be handcuffed by a cop and thrown into jail... they need to be helped. Jesus would help them.

It'd be better for America if we admitted that not everyone is responsible for themselves. Not everyone can be expected to make the right choices all of the time. We need to help these people, not punish them. Maybe take them off the streets, for sure, but not punish them in the way prison does. Prison creates criminals. Almost everyone who goes to prison... winds up back there. Have you ever wondered why that happens? The system we have creates more problems than it solves. If we just admitted we had problems and dealt with them rationally... we'd make society safer.

I'm not trying to argue that all people who break the law should be coddled and let off the hook. I'm saying they need intensive care and conseling which doesn't punish them and encourages positive change. I can tell you right now that when you tell someone "What you did is wrong. So we're sending you to jail, a horrible place where all the wrong people go."... they'll continue to be wrong... because.. that is what they are.

And all the things I said about how we treat the poor is true. We have a system where the poor stay poor and the rich stay rich and the middle class stays middle class. There is very little oppurtunity for social mobilization. And we treat the poor like crap. It's in the best interests of our society to start treating the poor better, help clean up the ghetto's and provide sensible housing and jobs for the poor. If you don't want to worry about crime, that's how you would go about eliminating it. Eliminate the need to steal. Most European countries, and Canada have realized this and their crime rates are much lower for it.
Yeah, I love the idea of throwing my tax dollars at a group of irresponsible, self-interested degenerates who ruined their own lives by willfully, intentionally turning to a harmful substance. That idea really appeals to me.

I'd gladly pour money into helping those poor people who are making honest efforts to better themselves, but I would not be alright with paying for every crackhead's hospital visit, rehabilitation efforts, and God knows what else. Sorry.

Really? Because... you're kinda paying for their incarceration right now. So you're kinda throwing your tax dollars at them already.

As I'm told ALL the kids are saying, decriminalize, y0.

BROOKLYN BROOK-erm, LEXINGTON LEXINGTON

Police are investigating a drive-by shooting involving people waiting in line for a video game.

Dozens of people camped out in front the Best Buy store on Nicholasville Road. They're hoping to get their hands on a Sony PlayStation 3 console. But the wait turned serious when someone drove by and fired shots at people waiting in line.

Four people were hit by the BB pellets, including 27 NEWSFIRST reporter Elizabeth Dorsett. She was interviewing someone in line at the time. None of them were seriously hurt.

Police came to the store to investigate. They're still looking for a suspect.
Lexington Police say they'll stay at the Best Buy to make sure people in line stay safe.

The PlayStation 3 goes on sale Friday morning at eight. The consoles are selling for more than $600 a piece.

I'm sorry, but is a PS3 really worth a fuckin' DRIVE-BY? (Although it was with a BB gun, so this story is, technically, a comedy.)
