From what I saw about the plot, isn't that kind of the whole point, that hers were impossible and that's why she... how you say, FAILS? Besides, once you go somewhere, you have to top that in the sequel, which is why series is going there.

The important thing here isn't their numbers. It's that because the Dems have the majorities, they get the committees. And they get to have more say than the Republicans over what happens in Congress. If they can recast the debate in their terms (step one is realigning the House and Senate chambers in the form of a middle finger which continually points at Karl Rove) then they should survive a deadlock-induced "WAAAAH THE DEMOCRATS DID NOTHING" attack in aught-eight.

Of course, anyone with the wisdom to see that they'll have to work together should do so, and hey, maybe we'll have a Congress that Gets Meaningful Shit Done. (see: geeogree's last post) The moderates are probably annoyed as fuck with both parties right now and just wish the lunatic fringes would go away already.

Arwon: Dunno about the House, but no Democratic incumbent Senator lost. That surprised me when they mentioned it.

As for the new thread title, people are a-postin'. Obviously, the big name is Daisuke Matsuzaka, expected to fetch up to $30 million in posting fees alone (reminder: this is just for the right to sign him to a contract... probably not unlike transfer fees in soccer, yes?). Everybody wants him. So I've sent out my spies, and even though they don't announce it until tomorrow at the earliest, looks like the winners could be the New Y--wait, what? The Diamondbacks? The ones who're based in Arizona? Noooooooo. Really? For reals? (Editor's note: This might not be news if it turns out it's just referring to the Diamondbacks bidding on him, not winning him.)

Also, the Pads appear to be the favorites (or at least the logical winner) for Akinori Iwamura, a 3B who's being posted. Didn't they just get a 3B, you ask? Well, Iwamura can play SS, 2B, and CF if need be, so if they really want to hold on Linebrink (that's the rumors on the Internets, that San Diego would send him to tha ATL for Giles). They're also chasing Kei Igawa, a pitcher who went 20-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 2003. Millwood much?

Bryan Pata, a senior defensive lineman at Miami of... well, THAT Miami, was shot and killed outside of his apartment. The police are saying it's a homicide (ya think?), but the team's going to go ahead and play their game at Maryland this weekend. Pata was apparently a thoroughly decent and all-right fellow, as well as a potential high draft pick. Condolences.

Speaking of the Raiders (thanks for the segue way, Dr_Death!) Tyler Brayton got fined $25K after kneeing Jerramy Stevens in the junk near the end of their game Sunday night. Brayton got the hook, but Stevens didn't get off said hook either; he got nailed for $15,000 because he started it. By trying to kick Brayton in the sack. Don't they wear cups on the field?
