Or not. Need I bring up Bud Smith? But hey, Myglowl's still under contract for next season, so we could probably trade him and dick around with YOUUUUUK some more by moving him back to 3B, now that he's probably going to have 1B/3B/OF eligibility for the 2007 fantasy season. Beckett... to be fair, he did come from the NL into Where The Big Boys Play, so that's gotta be no less than +1.00 ERA. Disappointment, yes, but there's still three years to prove he ain't Matt Clement v2.0.

As for Gonzalez the Alex, I'm getting the sense he's going elsewhere so we can sign Lugo. Yes, because that's precisely what they need. It's nice having money.

No video ones, because I use 'em on an iPod Shuffle (the lack of any display kind of complicates matters) but I get a bunch of NPR programs, including a few from KCRW (Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW's Music Exchange, Good Food, All Songs Considered, NPR's Sunday Puzzle, KEXP's Song of the Day, some music podcast from KUT (University of Texas station, not unlike KCRW's affiliation with Santa Monica), All the News that Isn't (a segment from What'da Ya Know?) and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me! among others). Also, EPL Talk, ESPN's Poker Edge, the New York Times headlines (around five minute summary of the Times), the Writer's Almanac (just because it's Garrison Fuckin' Keillor), Countdown (Keith Olbermann's show, that's just one segment), and NOW (David Brannamalamadingdong hosts it now, although I still associate it with Bill Moyers... yeah, the PBS show). There's probably a couple more I'm forgetting, but I'll check at home.

I tried to give a few others shots (World Soccer Daily, The Smithsonian Folkways Collection, Zen and the Art of Triathlon), but I just don't have the patience; WSD's their two-hour show, in full, Folkways is 28 hour-long episodes that aren't being updated, and ZenTri seriously needs an editor... the installments push an hour and a half, bi-weekly (I believe), and there's WAY too much dead air (to be fair, that usually comes when he's recording while training).

Re: offensive pass interference on Tim Carter

Man, that's bull-shit. Harper slipped on his own. Get the call right, and the Giants don't throw that turnover and they're still in the game. Although I've gotta give Indy credit for killing the clock dead, but... New York receivers, GET THE EFF OUT OF BOUNDS IN THE TWO-MINUTE DRILL. You were the best scoring offense in that situation last year, so you KNOW BETTER.

Verily, but that's not the only place to start cutting costs. I mean, hi, pork. Ted Stevens must be made humble, old country way, for every project he's rammed through for Alaska. Oh, and as for Iraq, I forget exactly where, but someone had noted that for the cost of just one day in the war, we could inspect everything that comes through our ports... which we're, well, not doing.

But yeah, the point of this is that it's one thing to have the resources, it's another to know how to use what you have. For a baseball analogy, look at the A's and Cubs. Oakland wins (well, at least in the regular season) with smart drafting and going after undervalued players (that's sabermetrics, not OPS uber alles). Chicago, well, really couldn't give a fuck what happens on the field so long as they keep getting 3 million + through the turnstiles a year. So they slack off and basically have no clue what they're doing (aside from yoinking Aramis Ramirez from Pittsburgh for a case of warm Schlitz). Then you've got teams like the Pirates and Royals, who seem to be content to just get fat off of revenue sharing.

Somehow, I'm turning this into a defense of NCLB, which I sure as hell don't want to do, but maybe that's a question of the standards being all wrong. And even then, we're seeing that teachers just end up teaching to the test, rather than to educate. (sigh)

Tiny problem: It's not a policy, it's the LAW. There's no choice in the matter.

...Heh, wouldn't that be a headline...I don't really agree with the blacklist, but I must say that people have a right to know if you have been accused. However, only if they WANT to know should they go and inquire, these people shouldn't have to go door to door telling people "Hey, so...I'm an accused pedophile, yourself?"

Accused? How about if the accuser was out of their fucking gourds (like the ex-girlfriend of Dernell Stenson, who was considered a person of interest in his death) and there was no basis for their accusations? I mean, if you are a sex criminal (like McLusky sang their old singer was), then it's probably for the best that you do tell people, but it'd be even better if you'd come forward to the po-pos. But if you've just been accused, that's just another layer of explaining that doesn't need to happen.

HA HA very last thread on Page Un. Thus, bumpable.

Rick DiPietro has the kind of job security you (yes, you specifically) will kill for (I'm calling that too, by the way, and no, I won't testify for you). $67.5 million... over 15 years. Gee, what a total shocker, the Islanders sign someone to a comically long contract. Who could have imagined. (yawn)

NHL, yes. Second longest deal in a pro league that's still operating, behind the Lakers signing Magic Johnson to a 25-year deal. I think Steve Young got a 43-year deal from his USFL team, but they don't exist.

Aww geez. I thought they were abandoning the Shuffle. Huh. I'm still quite happy with my 512MB one. Only need it for podcast purposes (hey, I've got 90 GB of music, they can't contain my collection).

Only bug I know of is NO BEATLES ARTWORK. Fuck that noise. Oh, and iTunes 6 tended to skip, but a pause-restart cleared it up. Now, it's more persistent and you have to switch songs a couple of times.

I thought they kissed and made out. iTunes also gave a bunch of my albums the wrong artwork, especially compliations, where it'd just pull one song, find the album that has it, and assign the artwork for that to the whole compilation. Que pain.
