I think that pretty much says it. Food tastes way different if you just add one little thing or do some stuff different with it. A person who claims everything tastes the same is a person I see buying nutrition pills (all-you-need-in-one) whenever they become available.
I've been saying for years that we need some kind of generic nutrition unit and just start buying them in bulk. Food is fuel and eating is an inconvinence. That's why fast food is popular. Nobody should have to waste an entire freaking hour to refil their cars with gas, so why the time waste with food? Even if all sorts of food tasted great, fine. Sitting around for a entire hour to enjoy is is both sloth AND gluttony, espically when the time could be spent doing something productive.

...then I think your issues go a little farther than irritating celebrity chefs.

PS: Alton Brown and Anthony Bourdain FTW. The same for Iron Chef (although Food Network's version isn't insultingly bad, unlike SOME adaptations put on by UPN...) and, I guess, Jaime Oliver? Rachael Ray must be made humble, old country way. I vote that before we get to work on those nutrition pills, we make the usage of "E.V.O.O." to refer to extra virgin olive oil a capital offense.

Yes, but you live in Salem. I mean, Colchester (which is closer than Portland, thus the edit) probably qualifies as "omgwow". (Although I'm sure there's SOMETHING in New London, and that's not even half an hour away.)

Bigger news: SNOW TOMATO LIVES.

As for the liquid issue, how's about stores past security selling water and allowing you to take that on flights? I'm just sayin', that way, you know what's going onboard. The flight attendants tend to be too overworked/inattentive (a little of column A, less of column B) for my tastes (although at least they were able to furnish me with enough coffee to drown some small woodland creatures the last time I flew out to Seattle, as I was running on... oh, at least 24 hours without sleep).

KP9000: Didn't someone else here work at an airport? In Wisconsin, I think... forget if he changed his name. But (as the kids say) watashi no kyo no tashika naraba... he was a skycap, I think.

Nothing overrides laws. Emergencies only do in the minds of the people who break them. Law is meant to be obeyed.

...are you sure you don't really live in BC? That's basically what the guy who suggested this said: Capped cars wouldn't be slow at all... UNLESS YOU'RE A CRIMINAL IN THE FIRST PLACE.

So basically, car speeds shouldn't be physically capped, because that prevents you from breaking the law?

Nice one there.

I mean, is there anything that really stops you from breaking the law? Yes, in fact, there is, but it comes from you. The fear of retribution, the desire to obey rules, whatever. You're the one that decides to follow the laws.

Speaking of which, geeogree gets 50 bonus points for his suggestion.

And what about gourmets whose lives it is to taste delicious food? Surely you can't tell all of those people what they do is unproductive, or even counterproductive...

I'm guessing he'd have them find another line of work. Although it begs the question of just what's productive. Brillat-Savarin would probably want to punch ||bass in the face with the entire French Directorate for making such suggestions. You ask me, if you ditch the ritual of cooking, you lose your soul.

Well, why do you think I care about expanding my culinary horizons? (kneels before Alton's approach)

Well, if someone did do that, then they'd go to hell and die. Think security won't be looking for that now, especially considering liquid explosives are the scare tactic du jour?

Well, no shit a TI-BASIC one would suck. All the cool stuff was done in ASM anyways.

That said, HOLY CRAP. Maybe it's a good thing this wasn't out when I was in school.

But the whole point of Good Eats is that you don't need a lot of arcane tools. Is it probably fair to assume that a lot of people who are serious about cooking have a food processor? I'd say yes. As for the ingredients, well, are you going to make everything he does? You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone with saffron just lying around, but his approach is if you're going to make... I forget what he used it for, this would help a bit.

Plus there are some solo artists who like being a one-man act and not going out on tour, and letting piracy run rampant would screw them all over.

Are you hired by them? Seriously, are you? Because no one with a little knowledge about that stuff would say such things. The music companies are screwing artists over, they are taking the big part of the money and they decide what should be allowed to be released. Selling music on the internet (lossless+mp3 so you have the real quality and a nice-size version) is what will let lesser known artists make some dough, and having free songs etc is a great way to let people try before they buy. Also, music is too expensive. Buying single songs (online) at a much lower cost is better since you can pick just the stuff you like.

Awwww, he's trying to make the whole "performance royalties uber alles" case. Most touring acts make their money, well, touring. And selling merch. And publishing. Not selling CD's. Are the labels screwing artists over? Besides Touch and Go and some other indies, yes. But the majors are pretty much where the crap will sell, and as long as that holds true, they aren't going anywhere. You know, music for people that have no taste in music. That'll only get worse when they start selling video game soundtracks, but that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. I'm not, but in theory, I could.

(puts you through a table)

The artwork, at least for me, is just part of the experience. Maybe I'm the only one here who sees music as more than a commodity.
