Winner. Let's stick with stuff of the paperback or hardcover persuasions, yes? Comics/manga are different beasts and probably should get their own thread.

We don't know. We're not supposed to know. We can guess, but we can't know.

At least according to Catholicism, we don't know the exact measurements of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. We know that certain things are good will help you get into heaven, and that certain things are bad and will push you towards hell, but there's no formula to find this out.

And even if we did have a formula for it, I don't think that would be enough information to run it. How bad was he in the past? Was he going to honestly change for the better?

Actually, it's kinda funny you say that... doesn't it look something like this?

But yeah, unless someone comes back and can tell us what heaven or hell is like, and prove they're right, we'll never know. It's for you to decide. Kind of like if you prefer ten commandments or just one.

Well, there wasn't time to get it done before the deadline. Hell, I think Varitek was DL'ed after the deadline too.

Oh, and Andruw Jones didn't clear waivers. So if he's going to get traded, it's to the Mystery Team. He gets 10-5 rights later this month, too, so he has to sign off on anything after that.

Brave New World is a brilliant everything. We'd read that and 1984 in high school senior year, and I think most of the people liked the latter better. I was Team Brave New World all the way.

Posted on 08-10-06 04:57 PM, in Capping Automotive Speeds Link
So in a discussion in one LiveJournal community I frequent on someone getting nailed for doing 90 mph and hitting the wall twice on a highway around here (and yet, she was still in control), someone proposed the following:

I'm still a firm proponent of not making cars for civvies that can exceed the speed limit. There's no reason a consumer vehicle needs to go 135mph. EVER.

Good point, there's really no reason anyone needs to go 135 mph. But he means you shouldn't be able to go any faster than, say, 70 mph. (If you're looking at the link, it starts with a comment by someone named "lovecrafty" asking "Mind explaining why you were intentionally driving your car into the shoulder?".) The guy who proposed this... really doesn't seem to make much of a case. I'm not entirely sure why he suggests capping cars at 70 mph. Is it because people speed? Because they endanger innocent people? Because he said so? Take a guess which comments there are mine, and you'll see my argument.

So the question: would you drive a car that could not go any faster than the highest local highway speed limit? What would it take for you to do that? Legal reasons? Some ridiculously compelling feature such as triple-digit gas mileage, running on renewable energy, or producing Maine spring water for exhaust? Why should such an initiative be enacted?

Apparently, football is the new football.

English Premier League team Aston Villa agreed to a $118.8 million takeover Monday by a group led by Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner.

Lerner's group, Reform Acquisitions Ltd., offered $10.37 per Aston Villa share, the principals involved in the deal announced to the London Stock Exchange. That represents a premium of about 47 percent over the closing price on Sept. 16, 2005, the last day before the beginning of the offer period.

"It is my belief and the basis for my bid to acquire Aston Villa Football Club that it can compete at the highest level within the Premiership and in Europe," Lerner said.

Sound familiar? Well, as I gather it, this is basically the anti-Man U deal, in that Aston Villa's supporters welcome the sale. Anyone want to let us know what Doug Ellis was doing wrong as chairman, besides coming thisclose to relegation in 2005-06?

Hey, let's look at the preseason box scores. Giants won... Ooh, what have we here? Jared Lorenzen going 4-8 for 34 yards passing... and 5 carries for 15 yards? FREE J-LOAD

But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the Redskins won the NFC East. That defense scares me.

They pretty much have to be (and speaking of which, let's hope Jeff Allison gets the help he needs... maybe a chat with Jason Lee might help?)

Oh, and Greg Maddux continues to be a sexy beast. Eight innings, two hits, four strikeouts, no walks, no runs... on 68 pitches. Good LORD. Both of those hits, mind you, came in the first inning. Randy Winn hit a leadoff single, Vizquel flew out, Ray Durham singled... and that was IT. Barry Bonds hits into a 1-3 double play (Maddux snares a line drive, throws to first to get Durham) and the Giants are D-U-N DONE while Maddux is still in there. 1-2-3 innings the rest of the way. Because Grady Little's a penis, he pinch-hit for Maddux in the ninth, and the only way that move could be tolerated was if they won... and they did.

Wouldn't that be more of a proprietary issue? Isn't CD-Text a Sony thing? Because CD's I'd burned using Nero (before switching to iTunes for my musical purposes) with CD-Text worked great in that. I'm guessing you'd be hard-pressed to find a program that would read it when CDDB/freeDB is right THERE.
