ROM-cracking-formats-and-editing-what-we-aren't-supposed-to-but-it's-not-hacking-really-we-swear-to-god is a pretty catchy name.

That and for the most part PC games are built with the intention of actually allowing and supporting modding, rather than people spending months to decrypt every little portion.

That, and for the most part modding is legal, but this isn't the place to discuss that.

I happen to think that sounds like a pretty damn fine solution.
But bitching about useless shit makes me look busy!

I agree with NetSplit. The word "ROM Hacking" is very well established; BGNG may think he may be able to leave his mark on history by making this thread, but "ROM hacking" is here to stay and there isn't much point in changing its name, as that would only create confusion. Plus, I think even if everyone posting in this thread resolved to have a name change, it would not be brought about because it is too well established.
He should stick to leaving his mark on history by finishing his F-Zero X editor.

Hello! I'm the original post! I desire, no, CRAVE being READ!

While Ted Woolsey did a fantastic job making Trigger accessible to English-speaking audiences, some text was cut and altered according to Nintendo of America's censor standards

Prepare to take a lot of flak for this, even though you're doing it for research purposes. There will always be those who will feel the need to attack this project for the simple fact that you're translating a game that's already been translated. Try not to let their words get to you.
The problem with some retranslations is that they are too, how to say, literal. As long as this group keeps things worth reading without six-screen long ways of saying "Esper", it'll be fine.

I'd recommend more shading and detail on the ripped GFX. Otherwise, a decent start.

You will have a much easier time navigating the internet and finding things on message boards like this one if you read the sticky threads and using a search engine like Google, or a message board's search feature, they really do save quite a bit of time and headaches.

Not quite true: Off the top of my head Mario 3 Improvement and Lunar Magic have support for their respective portions.

No massive crazy graphic enhancements, but it works quite nicely without nine hours of plugin configuration.

I've had some complaints of corrupted ExGFX in TNS, which only seems to happen when the hack is patched onto a ROM, rather than played on the actual ROM I worked off.

Does this happen to everyone, and if so, any idea what's causing this?

*ahem* Yeah. I used a clean SMW ROM with a 0x200 byte header when making the new patch. It says so in the bloody readme.

Redownload the patch or something if you're using an older copy.
This could possibly be it, as I haven't touched headers.

Apparently this was a problem before I got you to repatch it though, so I don't know.

Yeah, I was "that guy" who bought up the problem.

Don't worry about it, YY-CHR is not malicious, and the virus alert is a false alarm. Just disable auto-protection and the program will run fine.
