Here's the kicker though: How easy is it to place new sprites in levels?

That is a fantastic deal of information Peter! I feel educated...

(hint: how easy this is to use is directly linked to the chances of me working on Ninji Saga 2 again)

What made it different is that the cannon turrets actually move, and by move I mean shift around, aim at you, raise and lower, and all that crazy stuff. Also it was a huge tank, so it was autoscrolling everywhere. And basically I wish I could replicate what had happened.

....So I torture this poor pathetic soul.
There's actually a level kind of like this in the SMB1 hack Tower Re. It's an autoscrolling castle with a Bullet Bill shooter on the right side of the screen that adjusts to your height.

I'm using the 0.98.16 off the TASvideos forum, and having a weird problem - every time I change the video mode (say, to full screen to watch a speedrun) the pallete goes to a weird blue tint. Then, if I change it again, the pallete seems to corrupt until I refresh it or load a new one.

Any ideas?

It's not that it's not perfect, it's that it blows more than a wind machine on the set of a Whitney Houston music video. Therefore, we can conclude that it's not "awesome", but in actual fact "shit".

A TRANSLATION OF SUPER FAMICOM WARS FUCKEERRRRRRRSSSSSS

But in all seriousness, a few things I'd like to see:

1.) More wacky ASM hacks. Look at Japanese SMB1 hacks like Tower Re and XXXX. You never have any idea what to expect, cause they constantly change gameplay elements from level to level to keep things fresh.

2.) More non-linearity and choices for things to do. They should also at least be slightly worth going for: reward the path tricker to travel with nice items or even a different path through the game.

3.) Entirely new settings and characters instead of the original game's. Tell new stories.

Yes peter this thread is about making our owns level and submiting them to darkmatt as a fan level.
SO WHY ARE YOU GOING ON ABOUT ASM WHEN THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WIyou know what? I'm done. I'm not going to even bother.

From what I've heard, not even Nintendo were able to make a Zelda engine editor that wasn't frustrating to use. That combined with our complete lack of knowledge of the map format, and more complicated game, and I can only guess no.
