No, you patch ROMs with IPS patches. Get the terms right

And I figured the cheat would be something stupid, like "Up A Up Down B Down" or something

are you responding to me? if so... what do I do with this ips thing I just downloaded? (sorry but I honestly have no idea.)
Go over to Fusoya's Niche and grab Lunar IPS. Run it, and use it to Patch the IPS onto the appropriate ROM file. LIPS is easy enough for this to be fairly self-explanitory.

Weird, I had a new level with ExGFX etc. in Ninji.

From the looks of things, the game's loading in the No Yoshi level instead of Level 104. That... doesn't happen.

My AVG free has gone ballistic and declared YY-CHR a trojan. Now I can't use it, even if I try and extract it to my other HDD from a fresh download.

What?

Weird, every copy of YYCHR on my computer seems to have been rendered unusable (The properties window in Explorer seems to recognise it as a DOS program, and Windows refuses to execute it), despite working perfectly as recently as last night Also, it won't upload to that malware scanner.

I have no idea what is going on.

EDIT: Pushed the ZIP file from Zophar through that online scanner instead. Apparently it has about four seperate virii in it. Can someone else please download the YY CHR zip from Zophar and send it through this?

It's possible, I guess. I'll give it a couple of days and see if it clears up.

The only thing I can think of, although absurd, is that there is a new virus that makes the program think innocent programs are viruses. It's highly unlikely, but it's the only thing I could think of that could be causing this to happen.
If that were true, the online scanner (http://virusscan.jotti.org) would've reported the file as clean.

I just ran my copy through the online scanner, and it reported the same thing. I'm guessing all the scanners that reported (hopefully ) false positives use similar detection code, and part of YY-CHR's code just happens to look like some obscure virus. With so many viruses and Windows applications available nowadays, you're bound to have some unintentional overlap.

I've been using YY-CHR for years, and not once has it exhibited even remotely virus-like behavior. I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's a false hit.

Kinda annoying though, this'll halt all work on my SMW hack* until this gets fixed...

OK, now it at least lets the EXE load again - I had to turn off the Resident Shield but at least the EXE itself is unaffected.

I'm a happy Trashy again.

May not have been properly finished and tested, so he probably hid it from prying eyes to avoid "BUIGGY POS" complaints.

The original Chelsea code (which unlocked a REALLY early overworld editor) was leaked by a tester (Jonwil?) way back when. Not sure about the rest, though.

Yeah, I just got knocked off the GGB wagon for a bit due to exams. But now I have some free time, and am merrily looking for a hack that will make my face muscles slacken in shock.

In other words, Wario World Subcon.

Anywho, to avoid a derail, I'll comment on all your shots.

1.) The pallete makes SMA1 look like Doom 3 - way too bright! Interesting story idea, but the text box looks kinda messy.

2.) Pretty basic Yoshi's Island edit.

3.) Can we spell "linear" boys and girls? (If you can, you're better than 25% of your fellow posters!)

4.) Floor doesn't quite suit the level, which looks plain and without background detail. The pallete again too bright, and the background's pallete, for lack of a more polite way to say it, is wrong.

5.) Not a fan of the background pallete. Nothing paticularly horrible in this pic, but nothing interesting either.

6.) This reminds me of a certain level in World 6 (maybe 7?) of Mario 3.

7.) Oh joy, the jumping puzzle of the DAMNED! The blocks kinda blend into the background, making this level look even less fun.

8.) Background pallete hurts my eyes. Empty space above ceiling just looks odd.

9.) Nothing paticularly interesting.

10.) Oh dear. OH DEAR.

11.) Looks like a dull level, you should add coins, gaps, enemies etc, to give the player something to do.

12.) Perhaps overusing the one tile.

A decent start, but it could certainly use some work.
Also, lol rom link.

I find that hacks with "dark" in the name aren't very good.

Anyway, played the demo, and it's not that good. Levels are spartan in detail, and the first few are just poor edits of SMW levels. This plus the peter_ac gfx usage just makes the hack feel... well... generic.

I figured this'd be the most appropriate place to put this. Either way, DD's huge Mario Adventure hack has been given a full tool-assisted speedrun, blasting through the hack with perfect reflexes and all the usual TAS fun. It's pretty interesting to see, paticularly when DD's level work gets soundly trashed by the guy glitching through walls.
