I was expecting something amusing to happen upon clicking it, not expecting to delete the board - that's absurd anyway. And I get banned for that? Okay, but then a stupid title attached to my account, calling me ignorant? Uhh.. who thought this up? No, I don't think I'm stupid for expecting to witness a comical parody on the forum here - I do think whomever thought the idea up was however, at using a bunch of people as the brunt of his own joke.

I'm probably the forums best lurker, so the lack of posting ability is moot to me, but I just thought I'd comment for once and say this; this was a terrible idea. You're banning the curious, and perhaps even a few regulars who didn't check general first or whom weren't inside the loop to know what was going to happen. I don't see how that's funny at all.. This forum has always had some amusing twists to it, but this just seems like someones excuse to amuse themselves on a bored day..

Weren't you all trying to RAISE posting activity awhile back? Isn't this a little counter productive? This isn't a request to restore my account, because as I said, it is frankly irrelevent to me - a lurker who just views the place 99% of the time. But seriously, what was up with this?

Edit:
And no I'm not trying to take this overly serious, I'm not uptight, and I can take a joke. I just don't see how this was at all a good idea.. And as well, no it wasn't obvious. I don't generally check URL tags in my browser unless I am on an untrusted or unfamiliar site, this wasn't one of them, so don't try and justify this terrible idea with "well you should have looked" because you can't expect people to always pay that close attention. (It was easy to overlook even if you were paying attention)

Which is another reason why this was a terrible idea, most people will just re-register. Yes, I did too, though not for account restoration, just so I could say how stupid this was (and I did on the last (edit: before last..) page for those that missed it) and go back to lurking, I don't care about my old account really. But, honestly.. Why would you even want to go through the 60+ accounts that have been banned and fix them all manually? Assuming most\all request to be fixed?

Eh, I just don't get this one, sorry. Doesn't seem amusing.. Maybe, MAYBE if it were scripted to temp ban someone for a few hours, then it might have been worth a chuckle. But this? It seems to be doing a lot of unneeded harm, and branding the curious as idiots.

Yes, heaven forbid a hack of a puzzle-esque game require you to THINK! Of course you're going to get stuck, that doesn't make it suck.. This is one of the most well designed hacks I've ever seen for cripes sake.. The fact people are getting stumped a lot just proves it is so well done! With a couple of exceptions, everything is very easily solvable once you know how to do it anyway, or where to look. (A hack that sucks would be full of insane near impossible to solve puzzles and trap ridden rooms everywhere.)

If you're going to criticize, do so, you don't have to enjoy it after all.. But leave out the obligatory "this hack sucks" and add a bit more meat to your post, eh?

Cara, thanks for the defense, though 2 parts of this hack are challenging (hells run, morphball diagonal bomb jump puzzle before crocomire) the rest IS EASILY solved by the fact that if you are perminently stuck n one room, the answer is IN that room. Shows how much games nowadays hold your hand the whole time.

Cecil99, if you are tired of playing the hack, but want to see it done, Atma did a speedrun and got 2:11....

http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/forum/viewtopic.php?p=81719#81719

hard patch the rom and use snes9x 1.43 improvment 9

I did say there were a couple of exceptions. Hells run as you cal it, was a bit rough.. I think it would have been better to make healing more obvious. (The beetles you can get life off of, simply were not apparent enough I'm afraid.) It was a very interesting way to go about it, I loved the concept greatly, though execution could have been tweaked a little better.

Oh well, I think you did a superb job honestly.. Absolutely brilliant overall. Hells run is forgivable when taking into consideration all else you did here, it really just blows my mind to think anyone pulled something like this hack off.. I honestly very rarely try hacks you see, but I had a good gut feeling about this one, and I'm so glad I did. Thank you, really.

Well he originally said this was version 1.0 in his first post of this thread.. I'd say, he'll probably consider it, but not before having taken a well deserved rest. Really though, I do agree about Hells Run, it is one of the main things that needs tweaked, most everything else is just a brain twister; but that run is more of a trial and error deal - and trial and error is rarely a good thing. =/

Good concept though, I'd say leave half of it as it is, and make one room (perhaps the beetle room?) not burn Samus. It would make it a lot more obvious what the player needs to do in there, or at the least, it would make things a lot less unforgiving. (You really can't screw up once, if you do it is game over.) Still though, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon, he likely needs that break.

Oy, I have to agree with you there. When I think of a level editor for this game, SMILE is all that comes to my mind anymore.. And though Ultima's editor serves a lot of potential, it just doesn't do it in its current state. I'd love to see more of it of course, but I don't think he's shown any public progress in quite some time, so I don't know how much hope can be held in that. Meanwhile, <3 SMILE.

Forgive me for saying so, but you sound really paranoid.. What makes you so sure your sister would bad mouth you to your friends? And what kind of friends would take her seriously if she did? This is all quite silly..

As mentioned, tell your boss about this if you don't want her hired and she fills out an application to work there with you. That's all you can do, but I would really hate to be your sister in that case.. In fact, I'd be pissed if my brother was so paranoid about what I might do, that he prevents me from getting a job beside him..

To everyone calling this a hoax - I remember hearing it as well, MANY times.. But I never once heard anyone provide hard proof as to why? And no one in this thread really has provided said details either.. Stolen Sprites? Donated Sprites? Nintendo letters? That's all just random crap to tie in the reasoning that it "could" be fake.

I don't personally care for this project mind you, but I've seen a lot of speculation on the internet in my days and I know how easy it is for a BS rumor to spread like wildfire as truth without a single shred of grounding to it. Besides, he claims he is almost done now, we should probably see soon eh?

In short, don't always believe what you hear on the internet. (Same logic applies to the project itself too, safe to just give him the benefit of the doubt though.)

I agree. A very BIG re-imaging, but essentially all the core aspects are there.

I honestly feel Chrono games need to be continued on in the hack scene (here or wherever.)

Too content with Xenosaga/Kingdom Hearts? Was that a personal statement of your favorites or were you meaning SE is too content with those two to bother with another Chrono game? If the latter, you should probably be aware that Xenosaga is in the hands of Konami now - Square has nothing to do with Xeno anymore.. Kingdom Hearts has only had two games too and fairly wide apart. (Final Fantasy would have been the ideal example instead.)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the third game this topic refers to would be Chrono Break\Brake, which was registered as a name by Square some years ago I think, but nothing ever seemed to come of it.. I doubt they ever even began production. Though, as far as the Chrono games being too different goes, I really didn't find Cross to be bad like a lot of people seem to.. It had a lot of CT references buried in it, and a lot of Radical Dreamer references - it was really a great game that continued the story as best as could be done. (Following Crono and the gang again might be fun, but it would also be a bit clique I think.. They had their spotlight, their story was told, it came to an end - it doesn't really look like they were ever meant to join forces again like that.)

Screenshots? Eh? You'll have to find them and post them here; because I never even thought the game got past the idea stage.. And actually, the fact you called it "Chrono Chronicles" makes me wonder if you're thinking of some fan production and not an official game.

I completely agree with you, and your point. I was merely clarifying from your post to avoid confusion of anyone else who might pass by this thread. Indeed though, I don't expect to see another Chrono game officially for.. well, I'm not sure we'll ever see one.

As for your idea of the hacking community taking it into their own hands, that is most certainly a possibility. I noticed with Temporal Flux's release - that there were a great many doors opened for the community to do just that. Although, I have yet to actually see much in the way of hacks created yet.. (I noticed Crimson Echoes, but other than that..) I find that kind of surprising actually, considering how damned popular CT is. But then, other popular games (like Super Metroid) got an editor too and they're not getting a lot of attention either.. Not sure why that is, but eh.. Feels like we're moving in slow motion in the hacking department, so while I'd love to see the community come up with some great new extensions to the story, I'm not going to hold my breath either.

Well, that sucks. It basically means that unless Nintendo pays out the ass for the opportunity, we're never seeing Geno in a Smash Brothers game.

If they got Snake in this game, I'll believe anyone to be possible.. Besides, they were specifically quoted as talking to other third parties at the moment.. There is a definate indication there that we might see a lot of interesting characters! Sega, Capcom and Square all three seem fairly likely off the top of my head. (Capcom seems relatively friendly with Nintendo anymore, and Square has warmed up a lot more lately than from their previous distancing. And Sega just seem fitting to go with Nintendo now, it would be icing on the cake..)

There are a lot of possibilities, and I wouldn't count anything out. Snake being in it also adds a bit of leverage, since now they have a big awesome name already carried with their game title - and a new system which is boasted to be easier to work with and having revolutionary concepts. They quite honestly, can pull this off easily where others would fail hard. They've got the fanbase, and they have the setup before them.. I'd frankly be highly disappointed if I didn't see some other surprises pop up in the future.

Also, considering how unique Snake is to the game.. I wouldn't count out anyone as too realistic either. Could see RE characters to compliment him from Capcom, or perhaps some Xeno characters from Konami's other teams.. Endless are the possibilities I tell you, endless. And one thing is certain in the end.. This game WILL sell mighty damn good.

VL, don't allow any pressure to change your decisions in this. At the moment, a lot of people want the editor released because.. Well because frankly they're just overly excited. I've lived through the community (other communities actually) long enough to know it when I see it, and a lot of these people probably won't even do anything with the editor. (Just tinker with it and put it down once they get a scope for the limitations of the game.)

There will always be the dedicated and interested people who are eagerly awaiting the release of the editor, and whom plan to actually do something.. But, they're not the majority. And in fact, I dare say that these people are probably the only patient ones! So yes, you don't have to rush anything out.. Take it slow, go at your own pace, and do make sure you're satisfied with it before you ship it out the door. (And by the by, I think it was wise of you not to give out dates anymore, those are evil, evil things aren't they?)

As for this Open Source business.. Uh, I honestly never understood where people got the urge to undertake huge involving projects like that when one is on the way (or is already done.. look at Lunar Magic for example) - there is just.. no reason to really do so. It is a lot of work to invest when someone else (in this case, VL) is dedicated in creating a polished product.. And besides, he seems very reasonable, so I'm sure if anyone requested a viable feature or submited him an idea or some obscure findings, he would take it to heart and add it or otherwise consider it at least. (Right VL-Tone?)

Really, it is just crazy talk to go into such a mess (and expect poor VL to provide all the info he has up to this point, and "explain" the meaning of it all) so soon. An Open-Source Editor project is a good idea mind you, but I disagree with using this game in such a project right now.. There are plenty of other options.. Doesn't Zelda OoT for example have similiar formats? I know Mario Kart 64 did too (Yes I know HH is already on this, but he said he wanted it Open Source anyway, so there ya go), and probably others.. Maybe just go with something less complex? Would seem a better idea to me. At the moment, it kind of seems a kick in the teeth (to be blunt) to be talking about reinventing VL's wheel before he even has the first beta out...

Anyways, this kind of thing is really not going to happen.[\quote]

Why must you put everyone down? When Mario Kart 64 came out I doubt anyone believed it would EVER be hacked as much as it is now (even though it's not that much), so why can't SSB be hacked? If someone sits down and spends a while doing it I'm sure they'll figure it out.

The problem is, even the more dedicated hackers just.. don't have the willpower to bother most of the time, and the guy who made this thread? Well he is most certainly new to the scene, and undertaking something like SSB would.. well, be more of a challenge and test of patience than I think he has. (Read: More than I think any newcomer would have.)

People need to start slow, and work their way up. And in this case, the people at the top just don't have the time nor the willpower to work it out, while the ones at the bottom just daydream and wish it would "happen."

In truth.. Hacking a N64 title isn't totally worthwhile. Not to say it would be fruitless, since if you do crack it; you have an already setup engine and genre at your hands to mold.. But.. Eh, you could probably do so much better with your time. There are very good 3D Engines out there right now for the PC, the Source and Unreal engines come to mind for example.. And in the short time it takes to learn them and what time it takes to code new events, etc.. You'd probably have your own game setup with limitless possibilities compared to all the time it took to hack some silly N64 title with severe limitations..

And yes, you could probably learn to make all your resources for the above mentioned in a similiar timeframe as it takes to deal with this kind of thing.. People usually don't have patience for THAT either, though, which just goes to show you how unlikely it is to begin with, huh? Yea, the fact any N64 hacking happened at all IS surprising, actually, and no one probably was expecting it to ever be hacked.. (Not reliably anyway.)

I can understand people drinking because they enjoy the taste, or some such. Alcohol is actually somewhat good for you in moderation, but.. Getting drunk off your ass from it (and purposely so) is something I never grasped the understanding of.. A lot of people in that state are just incoherent and unable to act properly, not something I see as enjoyable.. And the next day people just seem to have trouble remembering it? So they can't even find it amusing most of the time to reflect on how stupid they were. Then theres the hangovers (for those that get them) and of course the many dangers of over drinking, etc, etc..

Drinking isn't bad, but purposely getting drunk is something I've never, ever understood, and not something I've ever been good reason to personally test and see. No one has ever explained it to me either, as to why anyone does, they just do and leave it at that. (Trying to unwind with a good drink or some such? Okay, I can see drinking a bit would be nice like that, but flat out smashed? I'd really love it to be explained.)

As for the whole pot deal.. Uh, I doubt she went to rehab for that indeed, it isn't inherently that big of a deal (at all) compared to the monster (mess you up) drugs out there. (I've done none mind you, but I know these things by now.) I don't understand why anyone would take any hard drugs either.. I can see someone smoking pot for obvious reasons, but the harsh and dangerous stuff just seems idiotic to ever even consider.

People do weird things I'll never probably understand though.

Eh; we've all had/have illogical phobias; lord knows I have.

Oh I can accept illogical phobia's most of the time.. When they are based on something real. But come now, this is a Mario game of all things, set in a very cartoonish universe. The sprite isn't even especially well detailed either, it is mostly one color - black - with a mouth and eye slapped on it and some minor shading.. I'm not outright making fun of him mind you, but something like this should be easy to get over if you ACTUALLY try. Someone afraid of something real mind you, like heights, spiders, clowns or whatever.. That's another story entirely, and I'd say it is a LOT harder to get past that since you actually hace to interact with a real object\atmosphere there.

This though? Best way to get past it is to face it, straight up (Hence my posting of it) And besides, I do find it ridiculous admitingly.. I doubt there is a single person who replied here who doesn't.

Jouw, as I said on page one of this thread, you just sort of need to get past it.. And the best way to do it is to confront it face on, seriously. It is a pretty silly fear after all, don't you agree? No one is making fun of the phobia so much as what the phobia pertains to, which is inherently quite comical to most people. (And you can't blame people for this.)

Unlike most phobia's though, yours is not based on a real-world object\atmosphere, making it.. well, irrelevant in the end. You've nothing to be afraid of since it isn't real, at all, and never will be. If you can't get past this, you're probably going to have more deeply rooted problems later in life concerning other issues. (Harsh words to be said perhaps, but true.) It isn't a big deal really, but yea, you'll have to get past it rather than avoid it if you ever want to really be at rest concerning the issue. Besides, as someone else said.. It is a tad odd you'd seriously have became interested in this forum and SMW hacking if indeed this bothers you so much.. What did you expect?

Oh, and Alastor: I'd just like to take a moment to say.. You're a genius as always.
