No, he meant Super Metroid: Impossible.
The colon there makes a big difference.

I'll leave it to someone else to draw a parallel to the horrible grammar in the hack.

Yes, there are a few problems with the Locked Door blocks. Go back and get the key again.

Sometimes (in this particular hack -- I've never seen them used in any others) the key doesn't set the bit properly, and you have to go back and get it.

You seem to be using a lot of terms without understanding what they mean

The term "Interesting" does not equate to "You missed an item because there was no clue as to its location, go back through the entire dungeon and look for it" repeated ad nauseum.

The distribution and quantity of monsters and items are a huge factor in the definition of "level design".

And, you're right. Backtracking is not the main factor in the game. The main factor in the game is wandering around with no clues as to what you're supposed to do, and only being able to find anything by sheer dumb luck, all the while being pursued by monsters that will kill you if you're not lucky enough to avoid them, forcing you to start over from scratch.

And, yeah, most hacks are more difficult than the original game. Hell, I don't even mind the difficulty level when it comes to the monsters and so forth. It's the fact that the game offers no hints whatsoever on what to do or where to go, forcing the user to stumble around blindly until they manage to find the right location (assuming they don't walk past it completely because there are NO CLUES WHATSOEVER where ANYTHING is)..

Also, since this has come up several times in the chat but hasn't been mentioned once in the thread, I'll take this opportunity to point out that most of the people praising this hack have less than 30 posts under their belts, and a good chunk of them haven't said anything more than "It looks good, I can't wait to try it", which literally means they haven't played it yet.

And again I'll mention that, after the fourth time backtracking through the entire dungeon, I decided to cheat. Infinite hearts, infinite bombs. The game was still too tedious for me to bother finding the fourth key.

Here's the thing, though. Backtracking in all the other Zelda games I like isn't annoying.

And, quite frankly, I only like less than half the Zelda games, so if you want to take my complaining about one badly-designed hack as complaining about the entire series, then you're dumb, but I don't care anyways.

And therein lies your critical error. The gameplay of any hack should not revolve around "all the tiny exploits you can do", because out of all the people who might want to play your hack, less than 10% are going to know about those exploits.

And if you're going to disregard that and release a hack in which players will have little or no chance of surviving without being an expert player, you should put it in huge fucking letters right at the start of the game, that "THIS HACK IS FOR EXPERT PLAYERS ONLY".

He said Mario World 2, not SMB2.

Of course, seeing as there's officially no such thing as Mario World 2 -- Nintendo of America added that bit to the US release of Yoshi's Island for absolutely no reason -- it's easy to see why you would be confused.

He didn't say the dungeons were easy. He said they were easy if you know "all the tiny exploits you can do".

Which, most people don't, and don't care enough to learn -- as was my entire point

The infiltration part of the intro is only hard if you don't know all the tiny exploits you can do, like walking between the walls and spikes for example.

Funny how you didn't even read the post you were referencing

For the people who keep saying that going back and exploring is part of every Zelda game:

Any official Zelda game I've ever played, I never had to backtrack through an entire dungeon more than two, maybe three times, and I always enjoyed the process. And there is always some clue, or some logical design about how to proceed, if you pay enough attention.

As opposed to this hack, where I had to go through the entire part of the guardhouse I'd already done five times, was sick of it after the second time, without the slightest hint on where to look for anything.
I've heard that the key I missed was under a random pot somewhere. I should point out that the average player is going to stop checking under every pot, because there aren't enough pots to kill all the guards, which means it's safer (and faster) to just run past past them without giving the pots a second thought. And you really should've considered that well before releasing this.

And as for Euclid, complaining about people not giving the rest of the game a chance when they don't like the beginning? Welcome to the real world.

People only ever say that about things they like anyways, but if you got a new game, and you hated the first ten minutes, would you stick around for the next ten?

If a new TV show started, and the first two episodes were crap, would you care that it got better around episode 5?

And, I would seriously like to ask if you had anyone outside the development team playtest this, and if so, where you got them, and how much information you gave them beforehand.
Because if you had gotten a reasonable mix of people testing this instead of just handpicking a bunch of people who are experts anyways, you would've known that you would've gotten this kind of reaction, and you could've saved yourself a lot of trouble, either by making the going a little easier, or, as I mentioned earlier, BIG GIANT LETTERS THAT SAY "FOR EXPERTS ONLY".

Seems as though everyone likes Orochimaru's contributions to the hack, and.. three people like Euclid's.
Perhaps Orochimaru should consider a solo career. I'm sure everyone would appreciate that.

Video game skill is not binary. There is no 1 = good, 0 = bad. There is a wide range of skill levels between 'sucks at everything' and 'video game god'.

This hack -- specifically Euclid's dungeons -- was designed for people whose skill levels are far above average. I have no problem with this.

The part I take exception to is the fact that they make no mention of this until several pages into the thread. I can only assume that they either gave casual gamers no consideration whatsoever, or that they were deliberately trying to piss us off and prove their superiority for the sake of e-peen.
