pikaguy900 answered the first part of your question. Technically, with Lunar Magic's capabilities, you can use any subroom for any level. However, if you use levels that can be placed on the overworld for this, you will limit the amount of levels you can have on the overworld. Very few people will end up using all the levels for the overworld, though, much less every single level.

#1: It's probably for decorative purposes. They have no effect on gameplay.
#2: It's a remnant of normal Demo World, where that key did have a purposes.
#3: I believe it is there to show you can now access the secret star level and thus Boo World.
#4: Yeah, it's just decoration.

And what would that weapon be? It has to be a practical weapon. Something like a pencil wouldn't be an option. The intruder is unarmed, is male, and has an average build. He isn't aware that you are awake, so you can potentially have the element of surprise.

I could have a baseball bat in my hands within 1.4 seconds. If I wanted or felt the need to, I could take about 5 seconds to get a pistol.

He could potentially hear you approaching or see you in the shadows, though. Ans keep in mind that the intruder could use his body as a weapon.
