Hi everyone... I'm trying to create my own hack on SMW, I'm a newbie to hacking ROMs and I found some problems here and there. So I decided to post here my questions hoping that someone would be so kind to help me...
Here we are: 1.- I've changed the OW palette in order to create an "Ash Land" and a "Candy Island", turning the colors to a scale of gray for the first one and pink/yellowish for the second one. I've also created a desert area... The problem is: all this stuff looks normal in LM, but when i try to play the game it appears all muddled and the colors change by themselves!! I noticed also that they kinda... 'gleam' when an event appens, when a path is shown and so... What shall I do to preventing this? 2.- Other thing that happened because of the colors change: some of the levels around the world (not specifically on candy island) have also changed their palette following the colors of the overworld... Well... that's what i wanted to happen for the candy island levels (i did not change their palette though) but this change affected ALL the levels which had the same palette (to give an exemple: My Yoshi's House turned to pink...). What can I do? 3.- I've looked around to find some custom palettes to put onto the OW, I mean also 16X16 stuff like the pyramid that i've seen in Demoworld 3 besides palmtrees and more else, but i didn't find anything... Could anyone tell me where can I find those things and how can I put them in the OW? Does it work the same way as the ExGFX inserting in levels? And can I edit them just like I edit the palette in the levels? 4.- I'd like to put into the levels some sprites from other games and also editing them... What's the simplest way to do that? Thx a lot... and sorry if my questions are dumb but this ROM hacking is driving me crazy oh and sorry for my bad english P.S. I attach a pix to give you an idea of what it looks like the mess in the desert... |

Thx for the advices... I'm really busy with the school now, I will fix all the errors as soon as I can.
By the way... No that wasn't meant to be the desert nor the ashlands... It was just the muddled screen I saw when I played the game... The real OW looks like that ==>[attachment] Well... maybe they don't look like a desert and an ashland anyway ehehe... See ya |

Hey it's me again... I'm triying to fix the wrong palettes... Is it really impossible to change palettes 0-3 without having problems when they're shown? | |||

Hey.. I've created a BMP image (16x16) and i converted it to a PNG image. I would like to put it in the OW editor but i don't know how... I think I should convert it into BIN file like a normal GFX but I don't have any idea how to do it... Can anyone help me? Thx.. | |||

So it's YY-CHR better than the others... there is a problem though.. I downloaded the tile editor from many websites but all seems to be infected by the same horse trojan virus... Don't you have a link to the editor where I can download it from? | |||

Alright I got it. Another question: how can I edit the 16x16 tiles for the Overworld? I made my own ones but I dunno how to place them (for exemple: how can I create a "Pyramid-level" like the one which Demoworld 3 has?) | |||

Hi everybody... I customized some 8x8 tile for the OW graphics... I would like to put onto it also some 16x16 tiles (e.g. to create pyramid levels and stuff like that).. How do I do that?

I tried to replace a level I didn't use (the "3" sign, which is also a level tile: I replaced it with the pyramid I drawn and switched the "3" tile in another place) but the colors weren't exactly what I expected so I changed the palette with LM... Everything seemed to be alright but when I tried to play I noticed that ALL the 16x16 tiles have changed the colors... To give an exemple: ghost houses turned to blue and green... maybe I'm not allowed to change the colors of the 16x16 level tiles I dunno...

I would appreciate this tutorial, me too... I don't know ANYTHING about ASM and I would like to learn how to create my cute little sprites ...
Plus: How can I created an I-dunno-what-type-maybe-a-sprite rock that falls from the sky? Thx |
