Ooh! Ooh! I know!

"ECTOPLASM"!

(and OOC: SoNotNormal has 59 points and is ranked second above Apophis, who has 61...SNN should have 62 points for the last puzzle he got.)

"ONE BEFORE ONE HUNDRED"

I needed the hint to get it, though

Posted on 11-20-05 01:31 PM, in Super Mario Kart AI: I'm confused Link
I'm pretty sure this has been posted before, but I am still in the dark.

I have in front of me a copy of d4s's SMK hacking document, and it says,
"AI pointer table: 0x201cb, 2 byte pointers, bank C6(hirom), 24 pointers
format: XX YY SS, XX = X position on map, Y = position on map, S = speed

note: these are more or less checkpoints wich lead the cpu drivers around the track.
terminated with FF."

Using these data, I attempted to change the AI for Mario Circuit 1 (track 07). I found the pointer in the table at 0x210D9 (5A 0F, or 0x6115A for a headered ROM). Going to that address, I entered in new checkpoints in the order that the computerized karts should follow. The new data ranged from 0x6115A to 0x611B3 (with all data after that seeming not to follow the format d4s enumerated and having no effect on the computers' actions).

Testing the game in 50cc Mario GP, the computers did not follow the checkpoints; rather, the computers starting in first through fourth drove straight ahead to the first turn in the upper-right corner of the map and then began to drive in circles, and the computers starting in fifth through seventh followed the checkpoints in reverse order until they reached the bottom left corner of the map, in which they began driving in circles themselves.

I have not found any other data regarding SMK AI editing, and the data in d4s's document seems not to be entirely correct.

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

The "limited set" of avatars linked to in Edit Profile is gone. Clicking the link only brings up a page with a "Change picture" button and no pictures.

"CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES"
Come on! Let's celebrate.

Is the big bonus even possible? There are only fifteen letters...

I don't know if proper names are allowed, but I think this is the bonus answer:

"
C O N S
O V E N
N E R O
S N O W
"

Q3 Answer: Super Demo World: The Legend Continues and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

B3 Answer: It floats on lava in the 3D-esque castle stages. Yoshi can ride it safely across the lava (as long as he dodges the fireballs that periodically jump out of it).

My personal favorite ROM hack is the last public demo of DahrkDaiz's Luigi vs. Mario hack. Although it is only one level long (and buggy at that), this is probably the best SMB3 hack I've ever played--and I have played Mario Adventure.

Mouser Suit + Panda Suit =
It's just awesome.

Oh well. If no one knows, then I guess I'll experiment and try to figure it out myself.

Thanks,

I have to agree to Hiryuu on the old new board where he said, the CPU is about 10 times harder than in Panel De Pon.
I have beaten PPL on S-Hard without continuing only twice. Yes, it is at least 10 times harder than PdP/TA in the difficulty, and yes, the computer can garbage-chain, but yes, it is beatable.

The biggest problem I had at first was running out of panels. It's all too easy to get oneself squashed under a stack of garbage with one or two rows of panels below and no way to clear them. Something that I tried that helped immensely was eliminating unnecessary combos and extra chains when garbage-chaining. Instead of getting a [x2][9], get just a [x2][6] or even just a [x2] and save extra matches for when you might need them. You really don't know how frustrating the game is until you lose on Stage 16 because you wasted all your excess panels.

In summary:
I have done it, but it's tough. The biggest tip I can give is to always keep three or four or six panels available to restart the garbage chain if you miss a link or don't get the correct panels to keep it going.

No, number 8 works (unless I'm reading it wrong):

-1 + 0 + 1 = 0
-1 * 0 * 1 = 0

There are technically an infinite number of answers to it. (-2, 0, and 2; -3, 0, and 3; ...)

(Of course, I could be reading too much into the riddle, but if so, oh well--I'm just wrong.)

Posted on 12-27-05 02:46 PM, in Whats your favourite tune from any Mario game. Link
I have lots of favorites:

SMB3: Bowser battle theme, Ending theme (when each map is displayed after the scene with the Princess is over)
SMW: Underwater theme with Yoshi, Ending theme
SML: World 4-1 theme, Credits
YI: Cave theme, Ending theme (with the stork flying through the clouds)
SM64: Ending theme
SMK: Rainbow Road
MK:SC: Yoshi Desert
MK:DD: Waluigi Stadium
SMRPG: Forest Maze, Booster's Tower, and the scene from Nimbus Land in which Dodo pecks the statues, but Mario jumps over him
M&L:SS: Select file screen theme, Beanbean Castle Town
LM: Main mansion background music (and Luigi humming along only adds to it!)

And there are probably more that that I can't remember.
