I don't agree with his attitude, but I do wtih his choice of desktop environment
GNOME and KDE both are excellent, and it's not upon anyone to force anyone to use either, or either at all (there are more things than GNOME and KDE in the world).

the geeks have always had their localhost proxies to block ads and obnoxious HTML and the such, but now that ad-blocking is built into nearly every browser, there's no excuse but the fact that IE allows them to exist.

Google and Yahoo ads are okay though, they're text only. The way ads should be.

Personally, I love HP laptops, "Compaq" branded tends to be cheaper, and all the Presario lines have been replaced by the HP lines, so I say buy a Compaq 'top

Let's see.... oh wait, I'm not using lololol
Konqueror supports more web standards and it's 20 times faster than lololol (20x than Opera too, which vainly tries to claim the fastest while being the same as lololol )

I'm not sure about monthly payments, and how old is your friend's brother's Compaq?

HP bought out Compaq a couple years ago, completely didn't care about the old crappy hardware Compaq used and replaced them with nice and standard HP stuff (I should know.... running GNU/Linux and others that tend to hate proprietary hardware ). So in short, they still market plenty of computers wtih the name of Compaq, but they don't suck anymore.

Heh, I've seen the fanboys... and the saddest thing is that Linus Torvalds doesn't really agree with free software/open source ideals either, he'd use a proprietary system in a heartbeat if he thought it had a feature he wants. Hell, the only reason he made Linux free software in 1992 (opposed to being made in 1991 but non-free) was because Richard Stallman gave him a swift kick that the GNU OS he was plugging Linux onto was free, and his kernel should be free too. (more irony.. he thinks RMS hates Linux due to the whole GNU/Linux naming debate, while RMS uses ... GNU/Linux, surpise!)
Linus only make Linux free because if he didn't, he'd have to make a whole operating system (which some people mistakenly think he did, which he didn't by any shot), and that wasn't someting appealing to him.

I credit Linus to starting off the kernel Linux, but I disagree with almost everything else of his.

Yo, I'm back from college finals and stuff. I'll pick up where I left off, if I can (I've been keeping a doc just for this case ). I've taken a look at SMW Dev Environment, and it definately doesn't seem to be what I want, no offense to HabsoluteFate of course.

Techokami: How many environments can you test? I fear that I won't test it on non-GNU/Linux most of the time, but hope it will still work on any system with at least the GNU compilers/toolchains (BSDs, some OpenSolarises, etc). If anything, I'd need testers for MS Windows and Mac OS X, the two OSes I know I will never open (Making a GNUstep-compatible front end seems good for OS X; people on OS X and *nix w/ GNUstep alike can all run a similar UI)

Perhaps, but the KDE devs have already started to make a Windows native version in the CVS, and they said there's a good chance KDE4 will have native Windows port available for download.

You can still download the full Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2003... pretty much public. Ask for it with your email, they email you the link to the download.

You can do the same for just about any company in existence, doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

By the way, I've had a very good experience with HP. Also, there's going to be defective units, it's just impossible to avoid. Not every manufactured computer is going to meltdown like yours.

I don't think it leaves anything directly linking to Lunar Magic, the SNES headers remain the same even. However, you might be able to recognise it by carefully examining the ASM hacks used by Lunar Magic (to overcome limits of the original engine). It can also go wrong if people have copied those ASM hacks.

If they have an index.html fed automatically by the server, then no you can't. (The Konqueror thing only works for protocols that give you the files directly, eg FTP or locally stored things)

By the way, just about every server is case-sensitive. It's not just your school's server.

... nowhere on the page does the word "javascript" appear.

javascript is an interpreted language, as Disch said, typically by browsers.
