I'm not convinced that this is what every pirate wishes for. Just because somebody makes a letter explaining that the bits in files add up to a number... doesn't necessarily mean that the ??AA will listen. Already, an MP3 is an audio file with frequencies and samples removed, but the fact that it still sounds like the original audio makes them illegal to distribute if you never got permission to distribute the audio. It's similar to copying a CD to cassette tape, selling them, and claiming it's not the same as the original so it's legal. Networks work with fragmented IP packets all the time, P2P networks randomize the order further; do the massive associations care? Not at all.

Besides, if they were only sharing legal files... why bother with going through this whole process?

This is exactly what's making me laugh so much. If I needed to share legal files, securely, I can use sftp. Hell I can use sftp to securely transfer illegal content also (any medium that restricts illegal content is not a medium I will use; since that implies I cannot trust it to send legal content anyway).

There's very little practical point I actually see here.

Well, running things on real hardware without the official carts is useful for ROM hacking

You can get both Max Media Dock and a nicely-sized CompactFlash card from Best Buy; this is probably the cheapest and fastest way to run NDS programs.

There's an SPC plugin for Winamp (I think it's called SNESAmp, plainly enough ). And from there, Winamp lets you output to WAVE files.

Posted on 08-17-06 09:43 PM, in There are now 8 planets in the solar system (we blew up Pluto) Link
People have debated that Pluto is too small to be a planet. It's popularly thought of one mainly because it was large and visible in a telescope in the 1930s; now other Kuiper Belt objects around the size of Pluto have been discovered, but are generally brushed aside because it's so small.

I also find it funny people use the word "official" as if we're forced to think one way or another about astronomy. Honestly, textbooks today sometimes leave out Pluto as being a planet and instead list the other eight as the only planets.

First note: A few days ago, I tried watching this and got bored (I never played OoT, so I can't really tell what's amazing). Then I watched it with the commentary by JXQ, and I was laughing a lot.... that's the difference it makes

Second note: I like TASes because it shows what's possible, though normal speedruns are fun too. Watching a real person perform 16-stars in SM64 is awesome, as well as the Metroid Prime runs. Really, I'm not split between the real-speedruns and the TASes, I enjoy what's enjoyable (and frankly, it's more often TASes doing that rather than real speedruns).

Highly unrelated note: Why is it so hard to believe that the Zelda OoT engine is based on Super Mario 64? That's what the developers say, but OoT looks like much superior quality.

Not really, I don't think javascript provides enough to support emulators. Not to mention JS is slow enough

One more reason to never listen to digg.com ... a bunch of losers who post rumors and 6th grade ideas as fact.

Am I the only one that finds it funny he attempts to put restrictions under copyright law on the work at the same time as he claims it is public domain?

There's already Java NES emulators that run in applets
