I've had Mario Kart DS for about three days now, so I pop MKSC back in to see SMK-like karting on a handheld. It's almost as if I never played the thing all over again, I absolutely suck. I'm finding it hard again just to do the boost at the beginning of a track >_>

I used to play MKSC that I was practically as good as you could get, exploiting pretty much all the shortcuts, winning all the coins and star rankings in the cups. MKDS somehow erased that talent on the older game now. For example, I have a near-perfect time trial of Sky Garden (my favorite track); my old ghost beats me by about a minute now, falling off the edge and not doing turns correctly and missing the two giant shortcuts.

gnuboy remains to be one of the best GB/GBC emulators to date. xmess is alright, but it's not as good as some other emulators (even in the category of true-emulation).

Try adding -O1 or -O2 to the options, or remove all the -f options (they remove debugging stuff and further optimize binaries).

RealPlayer Browser is apparently yet another skin onto the shitty IE core.

But anyway, HH nailed it: you're OS has other issues you should focus on.

Games can detect the BIOS checksum, and thus can refuse to run on unknown BIOSes (mainly emulators; though other problems like the change with Nintendo DS can be a disadvantage). In emulators, you can remedy the problem a lot of times by dumping your BIOS

Ew, Nesticle is horrible. Use FCEU unless you're just trying to get other recordings played.

See FlashMe on the PHWiki. In short, FlashMe allows you to run Nintendo DS code from SLOT-2 without needing any sort of pass-through/NoPass device, protects you from bricking the DS (sort of, a brick program will write to the parts of firmware that is writable, FlashMe stores code in the protected area so you don't need to do any hardware hacking to unbrick the DS), allows WifiMe to work (on newer DSes, this is good), and removes the annoying health-and-safety screen that normally appears every time you boot the DS.

If FlashMe sounds good to you, you should go after the absolute cheapest way to boot homebrew code, which is currently the Max Media Launcher. You won't be needing the device after you flash the firmware. You could sell it, or pass it onto a friend or family member that might want it. Or maybe you want to keep it if you ever decide to uninstall FlashMe.

It only requires you to short SL1, the only purpose of which is to prevent the lower blocks of firmware being written to when it has a connection (it was probably there for developers/testers to flash different firmware versions onto the units)

The day before he posted this:
(19:04:49) Mike: Have you tried rearraging the tracks in the cups?

(19:05:03) HyperHacker: no, but that's probably pretty easy

Anyhow, it's great work. And keep working in SDL please, it's nice and portable

Actually, both editors are for a specific game, and the Nintendo 64 is a 32-bit machine (with two processors).

No, since it doesn't actually require Flash. I hate Flash, don't have Flash, and will not install Flash. If it were in the Flash Thread, I wouldn't watch it or know its existence.

Thing is, you keep saying that NoPass is PassMe3, which it isn't. PassMe exploits bugs in the BIOS or firmware to accomplish what it does. Instead, NoPass has encrypted code just like officially published games (thanks to the encryption being cracked); it makes the DS think it's officially signed. Unlike PassMe1/2, it will be pretty much impossible to block NoPass. The most Nintendo could do is scan for bits of code or checksums, but that is different with all the different NoPass cards coming.

In effect, NoPass should be a permanent solution to the homebrew problem. This is contrary to things like PassMe which is fixed by fixing the bugs it exploits.

You can either attempt to emulate the e-Reader and devise some format to store cards in, or back up the save from a real cartridge.

Since it's about running things like MKDS on real hardware, see DS Piracy on the PHWiki. (Running commercial ROMs on the DS is a significantly different problem than running homebrew code)

My real N64 has been not working for a few months. Quite unfortunate, but I still play Mario Kart 64 via some emulator (often with one or two other people; and I've been trying a bit of different emus/plugins, unfortunately it seems that nothing plays MK64 like a real system did )

Not necessarily, there have been PassMe clones in the past that have some official cartridge taken apart and become a permanent part of the device. They're illegal in most countries, are not NoPass devices (though mistaken as such), and usually one of those no-name pirate groups trying to make a quick buck.

1. Wait until the PS3 comes out and read the manual.

2. Perhaps, using Samba or NFS probably. Again, we'll see when the PS3 comes out.

3. You probably mean Linux (note that although "Linux" is usually shorthand for GNU/Linux, Sony might not be using GNU). Reasonable time-frame: Unknown. Sony has stated that the PS3 contains DRM and will not allow users to mess with the operating system (similar to TiVo and company using Linux but not letting people have the freedom to modify it).

4. Reasonability: Almost zero. You could pull off something similar to how Darwine runs programs on a PowerPC running Darwin/Mac OS X; that is, using QEMU to emulate an i386 and run the x86 version of Wine that way. With the DRM, and the few number of people that will probably want to do it, it lowers the chances of it happening unless you know how to hack.

5. Of course, there's DRM in the system!

6. Do you mean Blu-ray player? Nah, it's not a bad idea, but the PS3 should function as a player. Choose your poison.

7. Nobody knows!

8. See other posts.
