| Yeah, I know that this has been asked for before, but it never got Fu to do anything. But I seriously think it will benifit everyone if you release Lunar Magic's source code under the GNU GPL, especially for the following reasons:
1. The hacking community can fix bugs in Lunar Magic. (Fu, we know you won't do anything now unless it's super-major) 2. We could add features to Lunar Magic. It's a bit hard at this stage to think of new features to add.... but here's one: Suppose someone were to put music editing in Lunar Magic. How cool would that be? 3. Support for more ROMs... LM only likes absolute perfect-condition ROMs. Bad dumps and the such aren't so supported. Also, perhaps someday even SMA2  MW would be supported.
4. Support for non-Windows platforms. On the x86, *nix users could use Wine to run Lunar Magic. Now this often reveals bugs never seen on Windows. Wouldn't it be nice if those were fixed, or even if Lunar Magic were turned into a native application? We could even support OS/2, Mac OS, BeOS, whatever as long as someone'd be willing to do it. |

BMF: Likewise, they can't just find my bad dump... especially if GoodSNES marks it perfect (!) for one, and secondly if I dumped it myself. (Damn hardware... it never seems to dump right) Oh yeah, Smallhacker, not everyone has a magnifier... either because they removed it from Windows (yes it's possible, I'm not going into further detail than nLite), or they're not even on an OS that has a mangnifier to begin with (yes, there's a thing called Wine that lets you run Windows programs on Unix-like OSes on x86 hardware) (edited by FreeDOS on 11-18-05 11:15 AM) |

| This thread will be a place to look up software that might be useful for just about any purpose -- as long as it's not illegal (eg, we're NOT going to have keygens and the such here). Post your recommendations and I'll just edit this post so everyone has the benifit of just looking up here. I'll even put your name in [brackets] so your credit is not lost.
Let's keep this limited to general-use applications. For ROM hacking and programming resources, go to their respective boards (and start threads like this one if you feel like it) Edit: Added Cross-Platform. Particularly for free software... if it runs on more than just Windows and/or Mac, it'll go under cross-platform. Added Windows+Mac for software, typically proprietary, that only runs on these two platforms. Cross-Platform: Mozilla lololol - Claimed by many to be the best browser for standards and security. It doesn't cost anyting to use this wonderful browser, not even your freedom! [FreeDOS] Opera - This browser may not be the best when it comes to standards, but when you want a feature-packed browser that's fast, Opera is it. As of version 8.5, it no longer requires charge to remove the old ad toolbar that came with the free versions. [FreeDOS] Gaim - The wonderful, funderful, free instant messaging program. Supports Oscar (AIM/ICQ), MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, [old] Napster, and many more protocols. No ads, no fancy smanshy windows to scare you, just plain and simple text messaging. Version 2.0 is to support voice and video as well, so watch out! [FreeDOS] GIMP - Free image manipulation very similar to Photoshop; just about the only thing missing compared to Photoshop is CMYK support (well, it can be compiled in optionally, but support for it is limited). [DS_MaSTeR] Azureus - Ridiculously powerful Java BitTorrent client. [HyperHacker] VLC - Kickass media player. Plays pretty much everything except certain WMVs (because WMV blows, and so does DRM). [HyperHacker] OpenOffice.org - Complete and free office suite, containing a word processor, spreadsheet editor, presenter, vector graphics, mathematic formula editor, and if you've got Java a database application. [neotransotaku] Skype - A voice chatting program... interesting. [Ailure] X-Chat - Simply the best GUI IRC program around. Unfortunately, the developer decided to make the Win32 version shareware since a Windows port is hard to maintain and test. If you're on Windows, you have two choices a) Support the developer by agreeing with the shareware process b) Either build or get a build of X-Chat without shareware, one such shareware-free build is from SilvereX Memtest86 - Extensive memory testing system. [HyperHacker] Microsoft Windows: Portable Applications Suite - Ever wanted lololol, Gaim, OpenOffice.org, AbiWord, and many more accessible just via your portable USB or Firewire drive on any Windows computer? Well look here, you'll find all of those and some more at this great resource by John Haller. [FreeDOS] Google Earth - A little like Google Maps, but higher-quality images and extensibility. The free version is extremely good, and I guess the pay-for ones should be better. [PeterGriffinTheMan] WinRAR - Opens and creates RAR files. Better compression than zip. 40-day trial. [HyperHacker] NirSoft - Crapload of free Windows utils, including NirCmd which does pretty much anything from the command line. [HyperHacker] HyperNova Software - Useful Windows utils and some ROM hacking stuff (including hacks). Totally not a shameless plug.   [HyperHacker]
7-Zip - Totally awesome compression program. The native 7z format compresses better than RAR or Zip. [FreeDOS] AVG Free Edition - One of them free-of-charge anti-viruses, rated high by many people. [k0rn95] Zonealarm Basic - Freeware firewall. I'm not sure how it rates, but knowing MIcrosoft it has to be better than XP's built-in firewall. [k0rn95] Google Talk - Google's service that's based off of Jabber, with the addtiion of voice chat. Only downside is that it cannot talk with other Jabber servers, unlike most public Jabber servers. (PS: Gaim 2.0 is expected to support GT's extras, watch out!) [k0rn95] Exact Audio Copy - A freeware CD ripper that exports to WAV, instead of MP3 or Ogg Vorbis like most other rippers. [k0rn95] Parallel Port Joystick (driver) - A freeware driver to recognise console controlers via your parallel (aka "printer") port, such as NES or SNES controllers. I'm guessing you'll need to do the hard work of messing with the wires yourself. [k0rn95] XFire - Chat program that allows you to talk without leaving your nice, fullscreen game. [Eponick] Trillian - Multi-protocol IM program. The free-of-charge version supports Oscar (AIM/ICQ), MSN, and Yahoo. For IRC, Jabber, GroupWise, and Skype you need to pay [Ailure] WAMP - Simple installation of Apache, MySQL, and PHP on Windows. [Gavin] Dev-PHP - A PHP IDE [Gavin] Metapad - Unlike the other "notepad clones" this is probably one of the very few that can actually claim that title. [Gavin] Mozilla Sunbird - Calendar program based on the Mozilla framework [Gavin] Diskeeper - An Alternative to Window's Built in Defrag stuff. Can be set to defrag automaticly at certain intervals. Also faster, and gives more information. The cost is totally worth it (well, if you get it legaly, that is). [DarkSlaya] CDex - Great software to rip CDs, uses the LAME codec. [DarkSlaya] Textpad - Powerful shareware text editor, designed mainly for programming. [HyperHacker] Mac OS X: Camino - Simply put: Think of lololol, looking like a native OS X application. How wonderful is that? Well, here you go  [FreeDOS]
GarageBand - A music mixer that's part of iLife. [DS_MaSTeR] Text Wrangler - A good, native text editor for Mac OS X (native is not Java or X11). Beets TextEdit. [Yoshi Dude] Transmit - A GUI FTP client if you can't stand using that BSD-derived ftp built in. [Yoshi Dude] Safari - Browser based on KHTML. Originally came with and required Mac OS X 10.2. New versions require 10.4 now (don't worry, you can update the core of OS X without purchasing an upgrade ). If you don't have it installed, it might be a fun addition to your OS X experience. [DS_MaSTeR]
Windows+Mac: Adobe Creative Suite 2 - Series of applications that cost a lot of money that are designed for people with jobs that demand high-quality graphics work. [DS_MaSTeR] iTunes - Music organisation and player. | What's really interesting is that your series of hacks flow through each other in SMB, SMB2, SMB3, and SMW... I don't know if we've ever seen a such a series of hacks before (of course each game has been hacked)
EDIT: Actually, it's my opinion that it might work out to flow better if you hack All Stars+SMW. I'm not sure weather anyone's bothered hacking All Stars SMBx, but at least Lunar Magic should work in the SMW portion. (edited by FreeDOS on 11-20-05 12:16 AM) |

| It bugs up with ImageZoom... but I guess it should be the extension/browser's problem more than yours.
Also, this is completely explainable... especially if you just extracted it from a ZIP... it was created on your filesystem at that date, but it preserved the original modification date. |
