I don't know whether Mario Is Missing is a game that uses the N-SPC format for it's SPC files. Could anyone please help me out and give me a few pointers on how to find this out, or if it's known, please let me know?

I get your point. I'll work at that as well.

All right. I've also got another idea, though. I wonder if I could try to just disassemble the SPC's code, and then get thesong data in a format I can read, with some effort, so that I can copy it in a different form into another game when that option becomes available.

Does that sound very feasible to you guys?

That looks okay, Xk. A little bland, but nothing too hard to fix

I wonder if extension is used for something like extra data for a sprite, sorta like Ludwig's fireballs, as they move when he fires them, but placed in a level by LM, they are stationary, and with torpedo teds... Placed without the launchers, they go in only one direction, not both. Is that what extension might be for?

Hey, thanks!

I looked through your example, it looks nice. You don't mind then, if I use it and credit you, I hope. *copies to clipboard*

12Gb, yay.

2 drives, as well- 6 Gb each. The saddest part is that I only make use of <1Gb of that data, not counting windows/exe's/etc. (that would bring it to ~1.5Gb)

Posted on 01-19-06 10:20 PM, in "Hack" - What's in a Name? Link
Well, the original term "hacking" was applied in journalism, when people would "hack" out a report very quickly trying again and again in a short time to get it right, which led to the term being used for "Hackers" trying repeatedly to get into locked areas by trying different password again and again.

Then, "hackers" like us tried repeatedly to find out a game's data formats, and then change it, which, I think, is where the term came from- trying repeatedly to figure out the format. Then, you had to continue trying in order to get the data right. Now, hacking can be applied in that you continuously re-make levels bit by bit in order to make them perfact (using the editors), just like the original "hackers" in journalism. Therefore, the term can be applied here, for the people who use LM or temporal flux or whatever.

So, would that make someone who uses a hex editor as well, to add in new code by hand or document existing code, is a hacker considering that they use.. say.. Lemetaal or LM or whatever?

BMF, when you played around with the second Chuck's settings, did you change his two graphic bytes? Maybe the Pirhana leaves read from those two bytes or something.

Actually, you don't change those boundaries. Instead, go to the level header diaog (the mario head icon), and change the vertical scrolling register to "Vertical scroll at will"

That's pretty neat, but what's with the rows of text at the top of the screen? They seems to be synchronized with the charactor's actions. Awesome though- gotta love the Sonic 2 music.

Really? Those boundaries don't actually control scrolling, they're used for mainly sprite placements and that, AFAIK.

Can mario jump up to those areas, just the camera doesn't scroll up there with him?

...And it just happens that SNES 2bpp graphics are stored in GB 2bpp format, making them the same.
