I just finished my hack of SMB1. You can get the .ips at www.geocities.com/hfgamesmario.

It is just a straight up Level hack, so if you're looking for flashy graphics, you won't find them here...I tried to make it about as difficult as the original. Most hacks up the difficulty, but I wanted to remain fun. Do not expect it to be more challenging than the first. Any feedback would be gladly appreciated! Thanks!

Heh, I know what you mean. Sometimes the Bullet Bills can get a bit crazy. Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoy it.

No problem. By the way, if you submit any hacks in the future it'd be a good idea to include your own screenshots, not because I don't want to take them (I have no problem taking them) but because you'll more than likely be able to capture the best parts of your hack.

True. I was in a rush when I submitted it, and I probably should have just waited a bit to include my own. I didn't expect you to take some for me, and it's vastly appreciated that you took the time to. Thanks again.

Yeah, I made my entire hack after world 1-1 from SMBUtility. YY-MarioEditor is a lot more difficult to use; SMBUtility is much more user friendly.

I've finally finished work on Super Mario Bros HF version 1.1! You can find the patch at my site, http://www.geocities.com/hfgamesmario.

Here are some pics! (I have more up at my site)

The Title Screen

Part of 1-1

Part of 4-1 (I had fun making this level)

There are a few other graphic changes other than those shown in the pictures. The title screen may seem a bit plain, but the levels make up for it. The levels are designed not to be much more difficult than the original Super Mario Bros. The reason for this is that I found too many hard type hacks. I wanted to release a hack that was truly fun to play, not just work with a bunch of savestates. The graphic changes are minor but noticeable. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feedback is appreciated. Thanks for taking your time to play my hack, and I hope you have fun!

EDIT: .BMP's were definitely a bad idea, sorry guys. I'm still new to the majority of this stuff. I have .PNG images now, and they should be up within an hour or so. Sorry for the difficulties!

Ugh, yeah, never use BMP screenshots. And as I refresh this page, looks like your site is down as well. =\ For future reference, you should host your images at Image Shack. I think they'll convert BMPs to PNG too. Or maybe that's Photo Bucket.

The ground tile in your first screenshot (the title screen) looks really bad. I recommend replacing that. Otherwise the graphic changes are fine. There isn't much to comment on in that department. They remind me of when I was a child drawing mustaches and silly hats on photos in the newspaper. Not that drawing smiley faces on clouds and bushes is bad, it's just not somethiing to write home about. The graphic edits aren't the focus of your hack anyway, I recognize, so it's not a big deal.
Why does Mario have a line separating his ear and head? Is he sporting long sideburns?

I'm on World 3 now (and I'm going to have to stop for a while because I'm sick, blech), but so far this game has been a bit too easy. Are these edits of existing levels, or are they completely changed? I haven't played the original in such a long time so I don't know, but a lot of these seem similar from what I remember. *shrug*
Grr, World I and its tempting pipes. >8( The "WTF?" in that short level transition is a pretty cute addition.

What does that "A-"like symbol I keep seeing mean?

Ah, you're the first person to post some good feedback! Thanks for the advice about the images...hopefully I'll be able to learn from this. The ground tile, ehhh. I didn't really enjoy making it, but I've received mixed reactions so far. Some people like the design, and others feel that it's not ground-looking enough. I think I'm going to leave it. Heh, yeah, the smileys and etc. did feel somewhat like that. About the levels, the earlier levels take a lot from the original game, while past 3-1 is pretty much original. To me, it does seem quite easy. I wanted to make it accessable to my pals too though, who aren't so adept at gaming. I wanted the difficulty to be somewhat easy, but still fun. Mario does have long sideburns now! It's a little inside joke with my friends. The "A" symbol is one of the symbols of the idea of "Hefty Fetus". We put an H together with a backwards F, and added an umbilical cord (the little thing on the side). It looks a lot better on paper, heh. It's good to finally get a good reply, thanks for the feedback.

Both sites are free/shareware. Filefactory is a bit confusing though, I have an explanation on the top area of my home page. I wouldn't charge someone to download my game, that's just wrong . I will look into Ihud though, I haven't found a truly simple file hosting site yet. Thanks.

I honestly don't like the first screenshot for your title screen. The letters should be blended in with the black background in my opinion.

I know what you mean. I'd rather have it that way, but I can't find a simple way to do it. I don't want to have to create a whole new set of letters for the background, and I'm not sure if I can just fill it in only right there. It's not under my abilities yet...

And yeah, I still have bullet bills. (Sorry Jouw!)

Any other feedback is appreciated, thanks for the comments guys.

Ah, jeez. Wow. That's right. I can't believe I didn't realize that. Thanks!

EDIT: I fixed it up now. thanks for the advice; it worked nicely.

Yeah, I noticed an immediate and quite large improvement on the new title screen. Heh, I figured the ending text would get a laugh. Thanks for taking the time to beat my game . Would you care to rate it or tell me if you liked it?

If you're going to make another hack, the biggest thing to keep in mind is to have more original levels.

Yup, this is my first hack. I'm not quite sure when I'll hack anything else; probably just whenever I have time. I still have quite a lot to learn. I've just barely broken the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, although the edit of the unbreakable block was minor, it delivered an interesting effect. I'm glad that you're liking it so far.

"WOW!" is all I have to say. That was amazing. Hopefully he'll create an entire game like that. That hack showed true skill.
