I am very very happy to see that I impressed you S.N.N. I have always liked seeing all your screenshots of your Yoshi's Island hack. I seem to be the only guy keeping the "Game Creation" alive down here..hehe

Anyway, I can assure you that the final game will not have ANY of the RPG XP RTP default graphics. I just haven't gotten around to the battle scenes backgrounds yet. Probably cause I don't know what the backgrounds should look like. In M&L Super Star Saga the battles took place in a side view, so they wouldn't look to good in this battle scene..which brings us to the battle scene..lol

I'm no pro with Ruby, lets get that out of the way. I downright turn into puddy at the very sight of the Ruby Script. I have been able to implement some custom scripts that I have downloaded. And I have been able to tweak some menus, but I'm far from being comfortable messing with values down in there. I guess if I can find a Custom Battle Scene that looks like Superstar Saga, I might attempt to get it in there. But if it becomes anything even remotely complicated/frustrating, I don't think its worth it.

I just want to finish this up and actually be able to say that I completed a RPG game. I have so many projects half started that its sickening.

I believe I have enough substance in my GFX rips, original Music, and witty script to warrant a non-custom battle scene. The battle animations and effects will look good, trust me.

As for the ? Blocks. Yes, in my game, Mario can jump at will by pressing X. He will jump straight up. You cant exactly jump onto a higher platform or anything, but if there is a 1-tile wide gap, he will jump across it. If there is a ? block or a hidden block, he will hit it and activate whatever the block activates.

Not only that, when you switch to Wario, pressing X will make Wario do his ground pound move to activate switches on the floor, or knock over blocks. and when I implement Yoshi, pressing X will make Yoshi...make Yoshi...well I haven't figured out what his special move will be, but it sure will be cool. Wow..long post..

Would it really be so hard to just add a picture of the texture/item those boxes represent. I mean really. Even if they were still just mostly grey boxes, if they at least had a 32x32 square picture in the middle of what that grey box represents. That would make Eggvine so much more..non scary and more approachable. It would also give you at least partially that nice feeling you get when you sit back in your chair and look at a completed level..like in Lunar Magic. That sense of.."Job Well Done Son, Job Well Done."

Or maybe its just me.

Well thank you very much. Here are some pics from Toadstool Courtyard. This room ended up being very puzzlely. Not exactly a brain buster, basically hit this switch then hit thatta switch, but wasn't M&L SuperSaga like that. Actually my puzzles don't compare, but still.

This is the when Wario joins your party. Isn't that Wario just a riot..haha, he cracks me up.

Too high for Mario to reach, but light enough for Wario to ground pound the floor and make the blocks fall. Yeah, that's tight. My RPG features a physics engine. Does yours?

An overly helpful Mushroom Person throws a block to help Mario get across the water, Instead hits Mario in the face. My game features physical comedy..does yours?

Gotto push the red one to use it as a bridge to jump on to the island to jump on the yellow one to push the green one to use it as a bridge to jump onto the island with the switch so Wario can ground pound it to activate...

Man this room took long to complete. Yes, the goomba looks not polished. Yes the switch looks too polished.

Yeah, I keep forgetting to post the plot. Here it is.

Some unknown force(shall be revealed later) has managed to corrupt the Magical Stars that protect the Mushroom Kingdom. Think of them as the stars from Super Mario RPG:Legend of the 7 Stars for the Super NES. Since the stars are now corrupt(Evil), instead of granting nice people's wishes, they are granting wicked people's wishes. So for example: now the Goomba King can wish for more power and more bad guys. This is not the entire story, when you play my demo, more story will be revealed.

Yeah, Wario joins you because his gems have been stolen and follows the culprit to Toadstool Castle. Yoshi will then join you too. Watcher gave me a very good Idea of letting Mario ride on Yoshi. I think I will just let that happen in certain instances, like mini game/quest mission thingies. Not all the time. Then I think I will have Toad join you at the end of the game. For end game goodies.

This ain't no hack. Homebrew RPG Maker XP all they way. With ripped gfx. Original music.

Really? Well there is this one guy whom I would like to see depart this earth...

If I were doing a beta test, you would definitely be on the short list along with Watcher, the_man and Dragonsbretheren (If he ever posted here) lol

Unfortunately I am not doing a beta test....instead I'm doing a Demo Release!!! hahaa!..

I'm gonna say August 25. It will be a download on rapidshare(Unless someone recommends a different site.)

But yeah, It could very much be confused with a beta test hehe because its not 100% bug free..its not real buggy..maybe not buggy at all, its just that not ALL situations have been accounted for. For example, I have only recently found out that if you die during certain boss fights, certain triggers will fire/not fire, preventing you from advancing.

You know why? Cause I'm too nice. hehe See, originally I was going to make it so if you died, it would not be game over, instead you would just be teleported to the entrance of whatever map you were in and loose some gold/exp. But that creates the trigger problems. Where as if I just use the standard "Game Over" event, that ends your game and I don't have to worry about the triggers.

Also, if you save in between certain "Cutscenes" then die and/or leave the map, some triggers will not work and you will be stuck.

Basically, if you want to be safe, just follow the story line and do what is obviously next. But I also encourage you, after you are done with the demo, to play dangerously. hehe Try to get stuck, or try to bypass triggers/cutscenes, then tell me how you did it. You know..beta test. lol Fine, call it a beta test..sheesh.

Eventually, I may have some sort of death system. Lose this or that, return to here or there. But for now at least, standard game over. You die, you return to title screen and can load your file where you last saved it..simple.

Yes, please point out spelling mistakes when the demo is released. Any parts that don't make sense too.

As for playtime. I am making an effort to keep things short an sweet. I fear that if I let myself loose and make a grand opus of a game, I will never get it done. Its sad how many projects I have half started, so I am really really making sure this game doesnt get too outlandish. I just want to get this project finished and out the door. The regular main story will probably take no more than 3 hours if you don't die often. If you go for 100% completion (a notebook on Mario's Desk will list any and all collectables) then maybe 4-5 hours. I plan to have lots of end game stuff to do.

If not rapidshare, then what? I used rapidshare for my previous demo, no one complained, well not until the download stopped working. But no one had any issue with the dl process. (I am assuming)

I just had to say, Fantastic JOB guys. The MarioKart series holds a special place in my gaming history, and to see you guys do what you did, really makes me go WOW! I am hoping and praying that your hack opens the flood gates to more SMK hacks. I have a million questions about the hack, but I think I will just hold back and wait.

Its all about pattern memorization... Those are some long and hard patterns, and that is one bad ass megaman player. I've never played Megaman 8. Do you have to fight ALL those bosses one right after the other? It certainly seemed so.

That's just it. Crapidshare is highly unstable. After trying maybe 20 times to get the file, if it's even still accessible and the site is even up, you still might get a corrupted download. It's a huge pain. Also, the downloads are inaccessible by blind people, just to add insult to injury.

Well what I meant was that while it was up, I had no problem dling it and no one ever said they had problems dling it. It stopped working when no one downloaded it after a while..I think that's why. Anyways, have a problem with File Factory?

Not sure what you mean about the blind people comment, but fine rapidshre its out of the question..

S.N.N, since the finished product will be short, you can bet your ass the demo will be freakin bite size. I made the game, like Nintendo would. Easy, simple to understand, almost hold your hand, fun and wont upset your stomach. This forum's seasoned gamers should tear this demo up in no time.

I encourage people to like at least read the narrative and shit to get some fun out of of it though. I find most people just skip all text, grind on easy enemies and then just check gaming forums when they find themselves in a "IMPOSIBBLE TO PASS PART!!!"

Play, read, think. Seriously.

.sorry, my rants tend to come out of nowhere and spill into multiple posts unrelated to each other.

Here just look at the pretty colors..

HA! Its still August 25 here! So I did make my date! Ha you all thought I wasn't goonna make it huh? Well I did! Anyways. Visit my homepage or don't.

Super Mario RPG: Corruption of the Star Shards Demo1 Hehe this link dont really work does it? Just get it from my page then I guess.

Installation: Download the Demo(its in .Zip format). Unzip the 2 files in the zip to your desktop or wherever you want. Then run the MarioRPG.exe. A folder named MarioRPG should have been created. Inside this folder there should be a game.exe file. Try and run that. If the title screen shows, you are good to go. If not, you may need to place that other file that was in the zip (RGSS100J.dll) into the MarioRPG folder. If you still cannot run the game, you may need to download and install that RPG RTP Package I described earlier. E-mail me with error screens and your problems if you cannot get it to work.

Let the games begin.

Controls: Use arrow keys to move
Space bar is action key, press to talk and to jump in certain places
Press X key to open Menu
Press Z key to use special power in overworld (Mario jumps, Wario Pounds)
Press D key to switch party leader (Once Wario joins the party)

If you get it working, and no one has posted after this post, please post that you got it working. lol

Are you being serious? I know you are a gamer, and I don't mean to be rude, but c'mon. Do I really need to... OK then. Press X at any time while not in a battle to open the main menu. Using the down arrow key, scroll down and highlight "Save" press space bar (I think) to confirm your save. Now when you die, you will be able to load your save file and continue where you left off. Simple.

Just so you know, the music in Mario's house is music from Paper Mario (N64) Its the song that plays while you select a name for your file. I ripped it myself. The battle music is from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars (SNES) when you fight the Axem Rangers. Its a techno remix of the underground theme of SMB1 (NES)

The title screen and beginning intro scene music is an original piece by AlexAR(that's me) Its a remix "spacey" version of the SMB1 land theme.

What did I say to make you think I am being "serious" or mean about the music? I was just pointing out where the music is from. It is a catchy tune, that's why I chose it. I have a huge video game music library on my computer, so its not like I'm against VG music. I was being "serious" about the fact that you did not know how to save. I just thought that was kinda weird.

Failure to communicate, that's all. Again.

Double Dragon 2 (NES) has a fantastic soundtrack. I would say best music for any NES game. I also like most Casltevania game soundtracks, Castlevania 64 being my favorite. I like Banjo-Kazzooie Music too, I can play most of it's songs on my keyboard.

Here's a tip. Check out the ink pen holder on Luigi's desk in his room. It will restore you. Also, don't be afraid to use Mario's super jump technique often, I gave it a low FP cost so that it could be used liberally. Remember, you can buy fire flowers (Restore FP) at the item shop in East Toad Town.

Any one else have any questions/comments?

Hehe, I'm damned if I do, I'm damned if I don't it seems. I used a file upload site (Rapidshare) to distribute the first demo, people apperantly think its too much of a hassle to get the file from those sites (and I agree) I use a freewebs account to distribute the new demo, and now the server is too slow (I agree as well).

Internet: working as intended I suppose.

Anyways, I just learned of a new way to compile an RPGMaker XP game. It should reduce the file size significantly, and there is no need to download the RTP file. I think I will work on the game a bit, add a little more content, then upload a slightly newer demo. Really only for testing this new compiling method and distribution tweaking.

Anybody here into RTS's? For alooong time that used to be the only type of online PC games I would play, since there was nothing like it on consoles. I started on Starcraft, moved to Warcraft 2, then Command & Conquer (which I didn't like at all) then Age of Empires, then Warcraft 3.

That is my current fave online RTS. But overall my fave online game would have to be WoW. Yes, a lot of people take it way too seriously, and it does require a healthy time investment. But when you join a fun-loving helpful Guild, things can be very very fun.

Well, an "official" new demo with new areas and more storyline probably wont see the light of day for at least a month. But like I posted before, I will release a kind of version .2 of the last demo. To test out the new compiling method. It should be a lot easier to download and hopefully get more people to play and comment on.

Look for this to be uploaded within the week. It really should only take me 1 day to do this, but I have gotten myself addicted to WoW again....big mistake
