Originally posted by Raccoon Sam That problem plagues almost all SMB3 hacks. Whenever big Mario can squeeze thru and 1 brick tall area, and there is a wall to his right, he will glitch straight through it when he stands up. I have been very conscious of this glitch in my SMB3 hack and yet I still find myself making the mistake when I test play through my levels. Bio, I have also noticed that some boomerang bros in Moon level 1 don't move at all. Also in that level the timer will stop for no reason. (No I'm not using the stop watch power). Also those black fish seem to swim backwards, intentional? And the Moon world final ship level is way too easy since the low gravity lets you jump on to the "roof" and be totally safe. I'm just letting you know of these things so you know I played through it completely (and loved it all) This hack is already a 10/10. I eagerly await your next demo. |

Well for now these will be the colors. Black and white for regular and red outline for fire Toad. Tanoki Toad will look just like raccoon toad but with a stone palette (Grey).
I still haven't really figured out the pipe system perfectly, but I'm finding workarounds. What I am having trouble with now are Toad's palettes in the over world and beginning intro. I was able to use FCEUXD to change Toad;s palette in the levels easily. But I cant use the same method on Toad's over world palette, it just don't work. Does anyone know the location of Mario's palette in the overworld and intro scene? |

Originally posted by Xkeeper This is a HUGE deal actually. Whether it turns out good or bad, whether it ends up single player or massively online, it at least opens the doors to other projects. I bet there are numerous developers/companies out there who want to create a MMO on the DS, but lack the courage/know-how. With Maple Story taking the first plunge, those reluctant developers might take a chance now. More games=better chance of a kick ass game. You may not like Maple Story as it is right now, but you can't deny its a great concept. Free MMO the can run on almost any system. (edited by AlexAR on 01-10-07 05:23 PM) |

Edit: Nevermind.
I got a good rom now. And yes, right clicking on the tile selector blows up my computer. (edited by AlexAR on 01-11-07 11:54 AM) |

Originally posted by Deflaktor That is the first Zelda LttP hack that I have seen that looks almost completely different from the original. Great job. Here is gif showing of some cool stuff in my SMB3 overworlds. The opening and closing chest is a level containing.....a chest of all things at the end of the level. The level with the cycling mushroom, flower, leaf, star is a super hard optional level. One of those powers is required to complete the level. (You have to equip it before you enter the level) And that thwomp blocks your path. It goes up and down after you beat a level or you die in a level. I'm not sure if its obvious that the thwomp is in the air. The little shadow underneath is supposed to make it seem like its floating, but I don't know.. The moving Question mark is a random level. It can be a bonus level with lives and coins, or an enemy riddled, maze of a level. It changes after you beat a level or die.
Anyways, It turns out a bunch of the overworld tiles can be animated. The original artists simply chose to draw the same image over and over to make it seem like still tiles. I will definitely be taking advantage of this and creating more animated tiles. |

Originally posted by Kailieann Hell, with 6 colors at my disposal, I could draw a Toad that would rival Super Mario Allstars's Toad. But that's the last of my worries. Does anyone know how I could change what items you receive after defeating a koopa kid. You know, the items you get along with a letter from Peach. I don't want any level-skipping clouds, or sleep inducing music boxes cluttering up space for real power-ups. I want to use the hammer item liberally in my overworlds, so it would be nice if Peach gave Toad that instead a useless P-wing (No flying in my game thanks to Dwedit)
Level creation is still going smoothly..*knocks on wood* And don't freak out, these are some of the harder, optional levels. My hack will NOT be stupidly hard. (edited by AlexAR on 01-13-07 06:40 PM) |

I think I'm noticing a trend here.... Dharkdaiz's notes are a holy grail apparently. Not only because of their usefulness, but mostly because they are so hard to find. Why aren't all of these incredibly useful notes on Romhackign.net or something. Datacrystal's info is very limited and whenever I search for SMB3 data or SMB3 info, I get crap from this wierd assbackward funky website
But whatever, I believe I have enough info now to stop bitching for awhile. The only info I need left are Mario's overworld and intro scene palettes. Oh, and thanks for very much Googie. Edit: Interesting fact, that actually makes perfect sense: Those item ID's are the same for the treasure chest sprite. Sprite #214 in SMB3 Workshop labeled, "puts item in treasure chest." The Y position of this sprite determines the item placed inside the Treasure chest item, sprite #82. Placing sprite #214 at the very top (Y position 0) of the level gives you nothing in the treasure chest. Y position 1 = Mushroom 2 =Flower 3 = Leaf and so on just like the list Googie provided. Im wondering if the toad houses use this same list as well. (edited by AlexAR on 01-13-07 07:54 PM) (edited by AlexAR on 01-14-07 12:21 AM) |

Originally posted by Trax After every attempt I make to draw Toad in the Frog Suit or Hammer Bros Suit....I cry
Eventually, I will get. But I'm feeling weird/unworthy if I release my hack with without modified powers. Bio's and DahrkDaiz's hacks have set the bar about 10 meters above my head. I'm not sure what to do. Quite frankly, I just want to make fun and interesting levels, and not worry about the power suits. Will people burn me at the stake if my hack contains no Frog/Hammer Bros suit? |

| What a difference a nice background makes..
I could not draw Toad in Mario's Hammer bros. suit, so I just transformed Toad into a Hammer Bros. When carrying something, he holds it in his mouth. When kicking something, he hits it with his hammer. And when he dashes, he goes into his shell and slides on its top. See it in action here.
This got me thinking, maybe I should change the frog suit into the cheep-cheep suit. ![]() |

Originally posted by hukka OMG, why didn't anyone tell me? Thanks hukka. What I'm finding most useful though, is that docs folder that appeared after I installed your new version. Notes from DahrkDaiz himself? Where were you 5 posts back? lol thanks again hukka
Edit: Wow, this is weird..I drew that exact same sprite a little while ago Dr. Mario. You did exactly what I did, just fill in Toad's hat to make it look like a Hammer Bros shell. I have been thinking of doing something like this instead though.
Check the video out. (edited by AlexAR on 01-15-07 10:11 PM) |

| Freaking sweet man. I remember seeing an interview with one of these 8 bit music composer guys on the old ZDTV cable channel. Most songs aren't very good quite frankly, except for this Virt guy. His stuff sounds unbelievably awesome. | |||

| Good stuff Lysol. Everything that you have translated looks really really nice. I have a couple non-translating related questions though.
Tom Nook says this after I change into my work uniform. He doesn't want to give me the flowers to plant. (I think it is becuase my inventory does not have 10 free spots.)
Also, does anyone have a better looking inventory than this? My emulator displays everything perfectly, except for the inventory screen. (And yes, even though it looks bad, I still know I don t have the flowers in there.)
I eagerly await your next update Lysol. (edited by AlexAR on 01-29-07 05:10 PM) |

Originally posted by jonghyunchung Oh cmon, you can do more than that can't ya? You obviously know what you are doing because those sprite changes and title screen look fantastic. I mean, if you are not going to change the level graphics fine, (even though it would be supremely easy since the game has very few graphics TO change) but to just change the time limits..? SMB Utility just makes it too damned easy to create new levels, for you not to at least try it. Kirby related hacks are rareish, so you got that going for ya, If you were to change the drab brown blocks to classic Kirby grassy land....then you'd have something special. |

| Well you all mentioned the obvious ones. I'd like to mention some lesser know gems on the N64. I know some people make fun of Hybrid Heaven, but I personally loved the fighting system. Very unique. Excite Bike 64 had some of the most fun tracks to race on. The control was spot on too.
And I think Rocket - Robot on Wheels rivals SM64 in the plattformer department easily. It had utterly fantastic physics and really made you think to collect all its collectables. Plus the vehicles were so much fun to just mess around with. For multiplayer, I remember playing Vigilante 8 with my buddies for hours on end (in addition to Perfect Dark and MK64) The weapons were freaking sweet and the levels were really well designed. (For both single player missions and multiplayer) But of course my all time fave game is Majora's Mask. which I consider the most under appreciated Zelda game. I say its better than OoT. |

This is some good clean fun man. Great find. I just wasted a solid 45 minutes fucking around in the edit level mode. Randomly adding 10 Rockets to anything sure make levels fun.
Currently I'm stuck on level 7 "Weak Bridge" I ain't no damn bridge builder... |

| Well, I'm not sure how capable you are..but a quality online Mario Party type of game would be right up my alley (alley? Ive never spelled that before)..
Anyways, I have very fond Mario Party memories. Super fun mulitplayer action in my opinion. If you could program a couple of the better minigames, slap on your SMB3 graphics, and throw it all onto a half-assed board, I'd fucking play it for sure. I might even help you, in a non programing kind of way.
Freaking, throw anything Nintendo game related online and you got yourself a great time waster. |

| Wow, this is really nifty man. I would have never imagined animated tiles could be added so flawlessly like that. You know what would have been even niftier if...I could edit the levels.
See, when I patch a clean SMB rom, SMB Utility wont open it. If I edit a level in a clean SMB rom, then apply your patch, it reverts my level changes back to original
I was hoping to make a "Jet Pack Mario hack" Great work nonetheless. |
