Name's Xauna, as you all can tell. Feel free to call me 'X', 'Xau', or, since there are many others who have similar usernames here, I'm okay with 'Xauna'. No preference. In fact, you can even call me 'Johnny the Robot Cactus' and as long as I could tell it was meant for me, I'll be okay with it. And no, my real name is not Johnny.
I've been lurking as an unregistered user around the hacking forums over the past weeks and finally got up the nerve to join. I'll probably go idle again soon while I pick up on how the place runs, and familiarize myself with what topics haven't been brought up before. Anyway, glad to be aboard. |

Originally posted by Piranha I ended up getting banned at the last forum I went to because people started calling me that. And I got mad. Oh boy how I hate that. (And I wouldn't have been so mad if the admin hadn't censored the name to automatically change to 'Sauna' every time.) Let it be known that when I created the name I had no prior knowledge of the word. Also... looking at all the people calling me Johnny the Robot Cactus, between my insane amounts of laughter, I cried out 'What have I created!?' I also kinda regret not making it my original screenname, but still no complaints. I like this one plenty enough. So then, I'll continue my usual idleness. I'll probably venture into the other forums from time to time just to break up the monotony of the hacking forums, as well as actually go to some place with activity. (The particular hacking forum I'm here for is Pokemon, which I notice is less active than pretty much everything else.) |

Haha, thanks, but I knew that. Like I said, I like my name plenty enough. I was going to change it a while back, but decided I didn't care what others thought. This was the most original name I've ever made(next to JtRC), and have had it as my official online identity for about... Oh, three years? My (unpublished) e-mail has it in the name, it's part of my website URL... well, changing it would be just too much trouble. Thanks for telling me though.

Hello, Xauna here.
I've been having a particular problem with Rubikon that, despite my searching through the other board archives, does not seem to have an answer. Background info: Hack of Pokemon Sapphire. The only copy I could get my hands on was a Mugs copy, however. Running on Windows XP. So, I opened Elite Map. I was following the Rubikon tutorial, and ctrl+clicked on the fat dude. The result? Nothing happened. Rubikon DID open up, but only to a blank screen. I repeated this with other people and events, but the same thing persisted. All it turns up is a blank Rubikon sheet. I've seen that sometimes the answer was removing spaces from the filename. I did indeed try that, but it did not do anything. Then I attempted to work on a Ruby ROM(Mugs again), but once again to no avail. I am NOT getting any error messages like I think I should. Just a blank screen that does pretty much nothing. So, any ideas on what's wrong? My only idea is that it's due to it being a Mugs copy. If someone could verify or disprove this, I would greatly appreciate it. Another possibility is that I left out a vital step, like maybe decompressing something. However, I do not see mention of such a step in the tutorial, so I am not certain. Thanks for your time. |

This is the single saddest mistake in the history of mankind.* Thank you, mister Spazzup, for making me see that I was overcomplicating matters. That aside, I can finally get some work done. Whoo! *Saddest mistake after science, anyway. |

Sonic, because he is blue.
...And because he's been my favorite since I was, like, 4. Any questions? No? Good. Because I got ticked off when I saw that Scooby Doo made the list and not Mr. T. Also, that pic of Master Chief wins this round. |

Hey, why is that? I noticed a while back I was the only one hacking Sapphire.
...Anyway, for the topic at hand, go with the version you're most familiar with. The more you know about where everything is, the easier time you'll have finding something to mess with. If you happen to be most familiar with Emerald, bump down to Ru/Sa due to the compatability thing. Also, animations might be difficult to change in the game; I don't know because I've never hacked it. Really, I reccomend first getting a grasp on what your hack will be about. I notice your post is really more of a 'what if' question than anything else, so let's assume you have a hack planned. First, what kind of world is it? Is it a dark, dangerous world with disasters, or a light, safe world with little to worry about? Ru/Sa and if you can hack it, Emerald are best for the dark dangerous world. It has plenty of weather patterns to mess with, and the graphics are all literally dark anyway. Furthermore, the game's story already reserved lots of stuff to work with. Two teams, TWO team bases(yes, Magma and Aqua's base are actually in the code for both games), and also music that's more new and closer to a dark genre. FR/LG had remixed songs from the older games which took place in empty worlds, and got a graphics update to make things look more cartoonish. Now, what kinda of things might you take advantage of in your hack? Yoro mentioned that there are tide effects. Would you be able to take advantage of this in a certain area to make exploring a round-the-clock thing? The rest has \pretty much been mentioned by the others here already, so I'll leave you with this to think about. Also, keep in mind that hacks are no simple matter. I'm sure you've seen enough posts to see that by now. Make sure you don't get too far ahead of yourself like many people do with hacks. Lots of hacks never end up complete because the hacker thought it was going to be easy, and gave up when something became a challenge. Take the development step by step and you can turn any version into a work of art, regardless of the features it has or doesn't have. Good luck with your plans. |

Ah, I know such sites. I'm notorious for stumbling into them. While I'm here, may as well post another WTF site. I'm sure many of you have seen this one, but for those of you who haven't... Enter Molatar the Dragon!
Be warned; you may lose your faith in humanity if you haven't yet. And if you don't lose your faith... well, you're one of them. |

The only Ruby rom I can locate contains the Mugs intro as well, if that's what you're talking about.
The difference is, with Sapphire, I found a patch somewhere that removed the intro and did nothing else. (And as far as I can tell, the patch works for Ruby too with no side-effects.) Want it? Search for it. I forgot where I found it, but it was in the same place I got the clock glitch fix patch. If I had to guess, I'd say I found it on Pokecommunity. 'Course, I'm only doing test hacks on Sapph now. I'll be dumping my own Sapphire game later on, just because I'm not sure if the patch really removed it or just repointed it. |

Originally posted by Yoronosuku The difference being that you can avoid the readme, and it's easy to remove. Mugs, on the other hand, made their intro unavoidable AND you have to press a button to bypass it. Of course, their intro 'sux' because they don't even say where they are. So in the end I know their name and nothing else. Anyway, there's two Ruby dumps now? Awesome. Oh, and sorry for kinda hijacking the topic like that. ^^; Right, versions. Anything left unsaid about the subject? |

2D versions of the SMW Goombas. I don't know... maybe if you made them squashable, it'd matter. Otherwise, I don't really think they'd work in the SMW engine. Of course, I'm only JUST looking into SMW hacking myself, so I don't think I know enough to form a good response.

Forgive me for being so rude, but is that hack SUPPOSED to be of such a poor quality?
EDIT: Just to clarify. Houses seem to be missing the 'top' part of roofs. In the intro, text goes off to the side past the border. The ground tiles mismatch in some areas. I'm not sure about the history of this hack. If it's being designed to look bad, or if there is a story to it all, I guess I'll understand. (edited by Xauna on 03-02-06 04:42 PM) |

I'm new here, but... I'm guessing things like this happen all the time?
Anyway, since I have no idea what the heck is going on, I'm prepared to quote from any episode of Bob the Builder just for the heck of it. Be warned, as this may be a prequisite to something even more evil. |

I just want an itemat some point. Got nothing right now. However, getting to that point without spamming is...
Well, today I suppose it'll be no sweat. The hard part is finding a topic I can have a discussion in. ...TO WORLD AFFAIRS/BITCHING! *vanish* (Because nothing is easier than complaining about how life sucks! =D) EDIT: And I see my gender has changed. Oh boy. (edited by Xauna on 03-03-06 09:26 PM) |

As soon as I saw this topic, I got goosebumps. I'll get used to this someday though, won't I?
Also, I suggest forcing everyone's background to be a flashy color. Shoot, make the whole layout do it. Just be warned that in the past when I have seen this done it causes a backlash of a whole community. =D |

You know, I'd probably be a million coins richer if it weren't for dialup.
And laziness. |
