Ah right, forgot to throw up these pictures.

If it wasn't clear from the small picture, I'm the guy to the left.

Originally posted by pikaguy900 You got a PS2, and FF1, 2 and 4-6 were ported to the PSX, so you do have access to the majority of the series (not to mention that these ports keep their original number, so there's no confusion to be had - if it's for a Sony console, the number on the box is correct). That said, the one you should pick up is Final Fantasy Origins, the collection of the first 2 FF games. Both are among the best in the series, and unlike the GBA remakes and most likely the upcoming PSP remakes, the gameplay was NOT ruined in the process of updating the game. Beautiful stuff, and mighty recommended. As for your first question, no, it's not as good a series as you'd think. It may have many fans willing to tell you how awesome it is, but many of these have never play any RPGs not titled Final Fantasy. The series also took a serious nosedive when it went 3D with FF7, culminating in the crapfest that was FF8, but never managing to get back to the quality of the early games, so try focusing on the earlier games first. But again, there are better series out there you'd rather want to play, like Earthbound, Phantasy Star and the brilliant Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior series. FF is nothing compared to these. Well, I picked "I don't care", though that relalates to "outdated" graphics. That is, I can play Atari 2600 games without problems, since these games were created with the system's limitations in mind - games that have ugly graphics because the graphic designer can't draw/didn't give a damn are more iffy (and these games rarely have good gameplay either, since the other designers often weren't much better), and games where the graphics get in the way of the gameplay (you can't tell what anything is, different things look too much like each other when it's important to tell the difference, and to a lesser extent shitty fonts) are a big no-no.
|
But basically, if a game was enjoyable once, it's enjoyable now, no matter how much more advanced graphics other games have.

While I do agree that the GC would've benefitted from a DVD player, that was then. Nowadays, as said earlier, DVD players are so cheap and popular everyone who wants one already has one, so there's no realy reason for anyone to put one in their console anymore. Only drives up the price. |

Well, my Wii arrived yesterday, and has been generally awesome so far. 8 hours of consecutive multiplayer with half the other guys at the dorm in Wii Sports, Far Cry and Street Fighter II should speak for itself. |

Seconding (thirding, whatever) the Mario RPGs and Chrono Trigger. Early Final Fantasy games (pre-6) and most Dragon Quest/Warrior games (not the first one - as Milly said, it's pretty much pure grinding and little else) are good as well, just try to stay away from the more recent hold-a-button-a-thons, those will just leave the wrong impression (and don't say "easy is good", everyone did well on RPGs with an existing challenge level before FF7 came along). Same with Mystic Quest, really - it's too easy and simplistic to entertain in the same way as the good RPGs out there. |

Goldeneye, easily. The guys at the dorm here kick ass, so we still have regular tournaments in that game here. Which I end up winning. |

While I could probably attend a convention in Europe (at least in Denmark), the amount of people that would show up for one probably wouldn't be high enough to be worth it.
|
Give me half a year or so, and I'll be in the US, though.

There was a CD released with all the music from the original games, so you could just track it down (by legal or less legal means), you know. Same with the newer games.
|
The metal generation doesn't have one, but there is an unofficial soundtrack made from extracted music out there, shouldn't be too hard to find.

And there's still no way to know you actually exist. What if what you think is your existance is actually just the playback of a different existance of someone else? What if your existance is simply the result of something else forcing these non-existing thoughts inside your non-existing mind, making you believe in your non-existing non-existance? What if sex grew on trees? And what if cheese? |

So what's up with all these guys who've been here for a couple months and pretend to be experts on the board's history again? |
