First reply by me. That's one of the more interesting things to happen in this thread. You know, apart from "first thread", "first post", "Cy is gonna die" and so on.

Yeah..

Decent.. well, apart from the fact that everything but Sonic and Tails' stages (and that stupid Casino stage) sucks ass, it's okay-ish.

But dammit, Sonic Adventure 2 is the only non-Genesis, non-Sonic CD Sonic game that's actually GOOD. And even that game has issues when it comes to actually controlling the critters.

Shadow the Hedgehog? Sonic with guns? Not even touching that one.

Oh, back to Solomon's Key for a second... how many games are in the series? I can only think of 4 (not counting Fire and Ice)...

- Solomon's Key (NES/SMS)
- Solomon's Key (Arcade; different levels/graphics)
- Solomon's Club (GB)
- Monster Rancher Explorer (GBC)

Both it and Lolo would be prime candidates for a DS port.

Solomon's Club was crap. Someone appearantly thought the original concept was too challenging (because hard puzzle games are bad, or something), so they threw in a shop where you can buy various items to help you overcome obstacles.
Stuck on a puzzle because you always end up having a fire between you and the goal? Go buy a fire extinguisher (or whatever it was) in the store. Yay. Money was spread around on the stages, but you could revisit stages as often as you'd like to pick up respawned money. Blah.

But know of a game most people haven't played: Godzilla for the original Gameboy. For some reason, someone figured a game where chibi-Godzilla ran around solving puzzles would sell better than a game where you destroyed cities and battled monsters. The game is somewhat like Crazy Castle meets Boulder Dash; Godzilla has to destroy all the rocks in a stage to make an exit (or multiple exits) appear, and then use one to reach a different stage. Rocks are destroyed by pushing them into solid objects and then punching them, but being a puzzle game, you must usually arrange rocks and then use them to reach different rocks, which can get pretty complicated at later stages. It's awesome.

You don't get a higher post count from posting you age in your profile, you know. And higher post counts are pretty much the entire point of list threads like this, since most members don't give a rat's ass about the age of their fellow posters apart from the handfull it's faster to check the profile of than scanning a thread like this for.

And since I'm posting anyway, I might as well inform you people of my age. It's 19. And it's in my profile. Huzzah.

It wouldn't be so bad if, as in Morrowind, it wasn't completely needed, but in FFII you do pathetic damage and take a shitload if you DON'T spend all that time boosting your stats. It was a good idea, but a bad execution. Maybe if stats came a bit faster (as in Dawn of Souls), but in its original incarnation and FFOrigins, too slow.

Well, uh, no. Equip a shield, and only use light armor, and your evade will sky-rocket. The way the game calculaes damage, high evade translates to both greater chance of the enemy missing completely, and less damage dealt if it hits. As for weapon levelling, the stronger an enemy is, the more skill points you'll gain from defeating him. Stats and damage grows as you play the game, and if you don't stop what you're doing to level (and if you attempt to level by beating weak enemies, levelling will take way too long), you'll usually be tough enough to handle whatever the game throws at you at any given point. There are a couple of places where you won't be able to handle too many fights with the strongest monster in the area (Kasion and Deist, pretty much, though in Kasion it's due to the strongest monster having insane defense, and you don't have too much MP at that point in the game. You can't run from the damn thing either. Stupid Kasion.)

As for attack spells, yeah, they blow, I'll give you that. Keep some elemental spells around (no need for any serious levelling) to take care of stuff with high defense, and you'll be fine.

Dawn of Souls was just too easy and bad.

In fact, that's going to be my least favourite RPG in this thread.

Dawn of Souls: Take two old FF games from the time when gameplay was what developers focused on (as opposed to plot, graphics, complex battle systems and whatnot). Now, remake them so the current FF fans who think FF7 was the firts game in the series will like them. In other words, make the game so piss easy you can beat it by holding A while watching the story unfold. Now, ignore the fact that gameplay was all the game actually had, since the story is pretty much non-existant, and you have a game that appeals to no one. The newschoolers want a game with more eye candy, plot, and complex battle system you can beat the game without thinking about, while the oldschoolers want a game with actual gameplay. DoS has neither. Blah. Biggest disappointment of the year.

The Revolution and it's downloadable classics and it's new control system is the only next-gen console that is of any interest to me at the moment. The 360 and the PS3 seem to have nothing but shinier graphics and prettier statistics to offer, which isn't something I'm gonna blow 500$ on (or whatever these things will cost). A cheap, used PS2 and a number of cheap, used exclusive games I missed during the last few years is a lot more tempting.

What I want for christmas? A leave, definitly, but since I'm not getting that...

A laptop, I guess. We have annoyingly limited internet access in the army. And, um, GBA/DS games or something, since I can't bring a console up there. A book, maybe.

There were a lot, and they ALL sucked. No exceptions.

In addition to Mario's FUNdamentals, there were exciting titles like "Mario Teaches Typing", "Mario's Fun With Numbers", "Mario's Preschool Fun", and a bunch of other edutainment titles. A number of them were ported to the NES and SNES as well.

Eh, I don't really know.
Mega Man Zero is supposed to be really hard (It's nowhere close to the last boss in MM7, i tell you. And I beat him too.), and I did beat that with an A rank, without using any cyber elves, I guess that's something (then again, while the bosses may cause a lot of damage with their attacks, they all have extremely flawed attack patterns).

I also beat all 3 NES Ninja Gaiden games, and I once heard someone claim they were impossible. Does that count?

Oh, and I got an A on Paint Panic in Kirby Canvas Curse. Now THERE's a challenge.

There's also a couple of old G&W games, like Vermin, where I can easily loop the score meter without dying. At least on G&W Gallery with it's simpler controls.

There is appearantlyone in progress, though.

But still, the SNES version shouldn't be that different from the PC version.

Didn't even know there WAS a cartoon, but the strip has been printed in a number of comic books over here. It's tied with Dooneysbury and Bloom County for my favourite american comic strip.
