Well, perhaps he is indeed a cruel bastard.
What's really funny about the stuff in FFX is that it's a lot like things in other games...like FF6's "run around Kefka's tower 2000 times to get the Apocalypse Sword" or FF7's "breed together 4 golden chocobos to get a platinum chocobo that goes to the moon and gets a revive potion for Aeris" or something of the sort... ...the difference is that those ridiculous things in FFX are TRUE. |

In point of fact, that's one of the more common rumors regarding FF6, along with the revival potion for a certain character. Which seems to be a recurring theme among fake rumors for FF games, actually...

Then don't use it. I really need to play through FF6 again one of these days, but I'll probably wait for the GBA port... then again, FF5 will come before that. Priorities... |

Well, it's not that hard to find. But if you want to wait a bit, I'm sure the GBA version will be worthwhile. (If it's anything like FF4's port that is.)

Man, FF4's port was great. They put back in everything they took out of it for the original American release of the game (though maybe that was already in for the PSX release, I dunno), but far more impressive were the two massive extra dungeons and the ability to swap in the other characters for the last portion of the game. Really well done.
Granted, I loved FF4 anyway...I wasn't really that much a fan of the job system in FF5. I like the jobs systems in FF3j (the only game in the series not released in the US!) and Tactics better... |

Originally posted by Skydude Meh...I kind of disliked that in FF4's port, but I admit it was fun. See, in the original game(s), at the final dungeon, I didn't need to worry about anything complicated or perfecting my stats. Sure, I knew about the special items, but I knew that would be a waste of time. I've never really completed any FF game except 1-4, MQ and 7 because of the need to max out everything. Then I eventually get bored and stop playing (even if I could crush the opposition with both hands tied behind my back like in FF8). |

But that's what made it so great. You didn't NEED to max out your characters. It was perfectly possible to take the original team into the final dungeon and beat the final boss, as before, without it being overly difficult. This was completely optional, and pretty interesting besides. I liked Edge's Ninja Playground, myself. Then again, I really thought Edge was a great character...

Edge's Ninja Playground drove me nuts...
... I have to admit though, Brachioradios really didnt put up much of a fight, and I was level 62 |

asdf: Don't forget that the FF4 shown in the port is basically what the game's supposed to be. The American release was FF4 Easy Type, which was basically dumbed down because Square didn't want to alienate the American audience right away.

I've never really played any Final Fantasy game except for Crystal Chronicles.
And my Spring Break just ended. |

Yeah, and that's one of the reasons that I did get it. Now, the extras aren't a bad thing. I was just saying that if there's a chance to become superpowered, I take it. It's a bad habit of mine in RPGs, which is why I don't tend to play them as much as I did in the past. See, in the FF4 port right now, I got bored of playing when I tried to get the Mind Flayer summon.
Oh, and the FF4 GBA port is more of a port of the WSC version than the Japanese hardtype. Some of the bugs from the WSC version (IE: double turns) are present in it, as are the modified encounter (rates) and RNG (ie, you can't encounter a group of 8 Imps/Goblins outside of Antlion Cave anymore). |

It might be a port of the WSC code but they still had to add a bunch of stuff to it. So it's probably the "ultimate" version of FF4 at the moment, at any rate.

I don't know why you would try to get the Mind Flayer summon unless you're obsessively completionist. It's not very useful at all even at the earliest you can get it...also, it should be noted that you can get it more easily in Rydia's trial in the post-game dungeon, if you're that obsessed with it. |
