Magic_Vampire_Joe Reason Why SMW Hacking Sucks #2 Since: 04-15-06 From: Delfino Island Last post: 6734 days Last view: 6734 days |

Following many annoying requests for the knowledge of how to edit the intro and the title screen text from newbies who cannot be bothered to look for it themselves, I decided to place this thread.
Sorry if some of the older ones find this part of the 'bumping dead topics' category, but I keep getting emails, IM messages and PMs on different boards asking, and its becoming annoying, so I am doing this in the vauge attempt to get people to read first ask later if they still don't understand. Right. Well I cannot help you if you are not using Lunar Magic. First of all, make a backup of your hack. If this goes wrong it can ruin the entire hack. Place your hack in an easy to access point, like a file on the desktop. Download ZNES - make sure it is the newest version. Open your hack with Lunar Magic. Make sure you have the newest version, as the old version will not do this. Go to level C7 and edit it to how you would like it to be. Save you C7 edit to level C7 AND then save it to one of the levels which come up 'TEST' as well. So now you have that level in both places, C7 and whichever you chose. USE THE OVERWORLD EDITOR TO FIND A LEVEL TO SAVE OVER. What you will find if you save it over, say, level 150, is that you cannot use that level as a main level, thats for extra parts to a level. Go to say, yoshi's house, and change which level you edited using the Layer 1 Editor. Bear in mind that you cannot set it to C7. Now what you need to do is save your OW to the Hack, and Make sure the Levels are saved to the hack. Keeping Lunar Magic and the OW editor open, open ZNES. IT CANNOT BE SNES9X. Open your hack with znes (Thats why you placed the hack in an easily accesible place.). Go past the intro and everything. Now say that you used Yoshi's house to correspond to your edit. Enter Yoshi's House, which is now the level that you would like your edit to be, but isn't exactly your edit. NOW, on the BLACK transition from the overworld to the level, usually where it says 'MArio Start' , wait until it has said 'Mario Start' and press ESCon your keyboard. If your level doesn't come up with 'Mario Start' before going to the level, quickly kill yourself so that you reappear on the Overworld. Get yourself Ready for the black transition and hit ESC. Hitting ESC will stop ZNES until you click run, or hit ESC again. Now, make it so that ZNES is windowed and is not fullscreen. Click lunar magic and click the overworld editor. On the OWEd window, click file at the top, and click 'Title Screen' More menus will appear to the right. Click 'Install Title Moves Recording ASM' It will come up with a warning telling you in simple terms that it may not be a perfect recording, and that you should make a backup, which I told you to do earlier. Click OK. Now, go back into ZNES and hit run. Now, play the level as you normally would, but make sure that you DO NOT DIE, and also make sure that you do not exit the level through pipes, keyholes or the end Goal Post. If any of these happen, Mario will continually play these levels in the players control, and they will have to reset the rom. When you have finished exactly how you would like him to play, hit ESC on your keyboard again. Make sure you have not died or ended the level, or exited thru a pipe or other means. Now, on the ZNES file menu that has appeared, click 'Save State'. Keep ZNES open for now. Click to open the LM OW Editor. Click File, and go to 'Title Screen Again. Click 'Insert Title MOves Playback ASM &Data' Go to the file where the hack it, and there is a file, which is named EXACTLY the same as your hack, but ends in .zst (or depending on which save state slot you used in ZNES, .ZS1 thru .ZS9) Now it will either say nothing or say it is inserted, in which case job well done. If it says that there is No data in the save state, you need to read what I have written again EXACTLY. If it said there was no data, you should also click INSTALL on the ASM Recording thing again, and if it is installed, click uninstall. Then install it againto make sure, and follow what I said from there. If it says that it has inserted successfully, then click FILE, title screen and UNINSTALL Title moves recording ASM. This is done so that you don't accidentally overwrite your intro. Save the OW. Now test your hack in your emulator (doesn't have to be ZNES), and If your intro has played how you played it, and you are happy with it, then good, you are done for that part. If you are not happy, go through all the proccess again until you make an intro that you are happy with. TEXT ON THE INTRO Click on the OW editor in LM, and click 'file'. Click ' Title Screen' and click 'Load Title Screen' It will come up with a warning. Read it and make sure that you have saved your overworld. Click OK. It come up with a blue screen. If there is nothing but blue, make sure tht you have scrolled up to the top of the screen. You should see the text that is the title on the screen. Edit it to however you would like it to be, and click save. test it, and your changes should be there! I currently do not know how to edit the music on the intro, so if somebody could place on this thread how to edit the music part then thank you. If you know how, and It is to do with the ASM and Hex of roms, please tell us the address of the Music for the intro. And if anybody needs help on hex editing, LOOK ON THE STICKYS. It's around somewhere, so don't request help on learning to hex edit here. Thanks for reading this thread! By Magic Vampire JOe (edited by Magic_Vampire_Joe on 04-22-06 11:37 AM) |

Wtf.
Did we really need a thread like this, when the threads of the n00bs who ask such ridiculously easy to find questions are trashed and said n00bs are generally mocked? I do not think that we do. |
