I want to rename this thread to "The Grammar nazi strikes back".
I might not be an ace with grammar myself but that doesn´t mean I´m bad with it either. I´ve seen americans whose english is worse than mine and that surprises me. |

I know "the lottery ticket is avaible" sounds completely wrong.
Eh, but in a different context it could work! But you know what, people are morons, you just have to ignore it. I've done it on accident before, just because I'm used to typing them and it's right there. |

Good job, Apophis. That was some stunning use of argumentum ad hominem.
Let's see what other fun logical fallacies we can commit. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 04-10-06 04:08 PM) |

I have more issues with people's excessive use of exclamation points. Seriously, when I've read some of my classmate's papers, they end every sentance with any dramatic effect with a exclamation point. Like, "Jeff climbed up the tree!". Even worse is when they use like ten.
"They fell off the cliff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Argh. |

I find that the more you obsess about this, the more you will notice and the more pissed off you get. I have found that usually it's better to ignore it and attempt to set a good example. They're playing with their ball over there.

Still, It's somewhat sad that a dyslexic person has vastly better spelling and grammar than most...

Not necessarily. It could be a form of overcompensation. If you're really worried about looking like a dumbass because of your spelling and grammar, than you might prove to be extra careful, to the point where you overcome your handicap and end up, well, having good spelling/grammar.

Ah. I'd seen the first Bob the Angry Flower, but not the second.
I like Penny Arcade's "Bad Boys of Punctuation" myself. I even have them on a shirt. Which nobody I know in "real life" gets. |

Well, I don't know when the last time was that I misused an apostrophe. There's a lot of other things I occasionally get wrong, but most people seem to make more mistakes than me.
So then. HMPH! *Walks directly into a wall* |

Koneko: You win.
Dei: Just ignore it. Nobody is perfect, and a lot of the members here aren't that good with english to begin with. Grammar and the placement of their apostrophe is not a big concern, I assume. |

Other people don't try, and that's sad I try to make sure my text is at least readable, and go to some effort to make sure that I am fairly easy to understand. Good (or at least, passable) grammar and spelling are all part of that. However, I will admit that I do mess up every now and then. Sometimes I'm even appalled at my own mistakes, because they're usually silly things that I KNOW that I know! I'm going to chalk those up to tiredness / brainfarts (and I try to fix them when I notice them). |

...you know, in average the grammar on this board is pretty good. Comparing to the average internet message board.
