I personally use Project64. It's very compatable and flexible, has plugin support (with actual plugins being made) and gives great speed.

I use both 1964 and Project64. The only reason there's two as opposed to one is that, to my experience, a game that doesn't work in 1964 will work in Project64, and the other way around.
However, one of the people in this house that uses the computer to play N64 ROMs (so between my brother, sister, and me) disabled the sound, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get it enabled again. I can't even access the audio config window through the menu It's easy enough to click the option for it, but nothing happens afterwards. The only other N64 emulator on this computer is Nemu 64, but that's somewhere on my brother's desktop (his directory structure is a mess), and the only reason that was ever downloaded was because he wanted me to look for an N64 emulator that would play Paper Mario without the game rapidly flashing while walking around. I tried to convince him that was a plugin-related problem, but he wouldn't listen Anyways, once again, Project64 and 1964 are the two I use right now, and I've yet to see anything that makes me want to download another emulator. |

I have to switch off between Project 64, 1964, and Nemu for certain games. Project 64 supports a better range of plugins, mostly graphic, which makes the games all look pretty and run smooth when I'm actualy trying to play. For 1964, I only use it to play Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, because it's the only emulator that tends to play them at the correct speed, and allowing me to override the frames per second and refresh rate so it doesn't go insanely fast. Then there's Nemu... which is similar to Project 64, but I use it for hacking and code searching because it has a really good built in debugger, and pretty nice GUI.

I use Mupen64 since it's the only good one I could find for GNU/Linux

PJ64 is the one I use also, it serves my N64 emulation pretty sweet.

PJ64 usually does what I want, though it's reluctant sometimes. I use Nemu for hacking though.

Just out of curiosity does anybody know if the emulation for N64 used to port OoT to the Gamecube works with other games? Has anybody in the emulation community looked into that?

I think I heard the emulator has a list of games Nintendo had planned to port, and a few of them work. It probably does a fair bit of OoT-specific HLE, though.

It'd probably be better off to wait for Nintendo Revolution to come out and stuff, generic N64 emulator designed for generally any N64 game. It'd be interesting to see when somebody cracks the download+purchase scheme for the Revolution and makes it possibly to upload your own NES/SNES/N64/TG16/Genesis ROMs to the console

I used to use Nemu, but there were a lot of strange graphics problems, so I switched to PJ64. They're both pretty good though.

Project 64, totaly. I haven't really had a problem with it yet, outside of running Zelda: Majora's Mask, and I got that for the 64 and on Gamecube. so, eh.

But yeah. I love Project 64. Every game (apart from the problem mentioned before about Majora's Mask) runs perfectly on it, as long as the right plugins are used, and the framerate rarely dips below 59fps for me. I use Project 64. It is one of the easy to use with as I can set different controls for the different games.

Well, now that it's been bumped, I use Project64. However, the only game I have is Paper Mario, and the background always flashes and textures are sometimes weird.
Maybe it would be easier if I just hooked up my N64 again... |

The main problem I've seen is with Space Station Silicon Valley. Lots of graphical problems there.
(Also, for a while, when I played Mario 64, the walls would kinda expand out and cover Mario up... Weird, but harmless. Very distracting, though.) |

I use Mupen64. It's ok. I wish there was something better for linux. Like if someone ported Project 64 or something. The only games I got to work well so far are OOT and OOT: Master Quest.

I play Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Super Smash Bros just fine in Mupen64. |
