I think this belongs in Entertainment.
Also, I don't watch many new movies, so I'm not disappointed often. |

What it really boils down to...is personal preference. Honestly, I could care less about what movie you or anyone else liked...as long as I like them, then I'm good to go.
Example: I never saw Corpse Bride, nor do I want to. Guy at work saw it and he didn't like it. That doesn't mean I won't see it, its just that I've never had an urge to see it. If its on one of the movie channels late at night, sure, I might watch some of it. This year's movie season has been a bit dry (I think I've only seen about 4 movies thus far) but the year isn't over yet. PS And I try to not watch crappy movies. Normally I can tell right off the bat if I'm gonna like a movie or not. I have been proven wrong before though. |

Yeah lately I haven't seen any good movies. The last movie I seen and liked was newer version of The Longest Yard which was I don't know how long ago. I see commercials all the time for new movies and just by that commercial it just shows how stupid the movies are. Hope that some good movie comes out soon, because it's kind of sad seeing these bad movies all the time.

I'unno. Hollywood is stagnant. But I hardly expect anyone on this board to go out and watch Mirror Mask or track down relatively indy movies and international movies. I mean, come on. Did anyone on this board (even the Quebecois) go out and see C.R.A.Z.Y.? Probably not. Did anyone here so Goodbye Lenin? Probably not. Did anyone go out and see the indie movies that were nominated for Oscars before they were nominated? I mean, I saw Capote, Good Night and Good Luck and Crash quite a while before the Oscar season. The simple truth is that these are the movies that I enjoy. And on top of that...I live in an area where such films are accessible. Unless you live in a relatively affluent or Bohemian area you will not have full access to these films in a theatre and chances are you won't hear about them unless you're so inclined to watch a movie like zeez.

I don't watch all that many movies, so I'm not often disappointed.
There are only two (older now) movies I'm interested in seeing, and those are Memoirs of a Geisha, as I enjoyed the book, and Wolf Creek although I'm not a fan of horror films and a bit funny about the idea of seeing the second. I think that the first will disappoint me a little; but then the book is *always* better than a film. Wolf Creek..... the more I hear about it the more I think I won't be "disappointed" by it. |

I look at it like this: Hollywood goes through "seasons" up-and-down "seasons" that they will always be making good movies or always making really bad movies, so far the last half of 05, and up to now, I'm really not impressed, but I think this summer is going to be awesome!

Originally posted by Plus Sign Abomination I saw Goodby Lenin and Good Night and Good Luck, actually. Both were pretty good. I'm lucky enough to live near a non-Blockbuster/Family Video/Ect. video store. Plenty of indie, foreign and horror. |

There really hasn't been a movie out worth seeing since Walk the Line, and I can't think of many before that either. It's been a bad year in Hollywood, in my opinion. Maybe it will pick up soon. =\

Originally posted by Anya I'm supposed to take some kids out to see that this weekend. Is it any good? I don't wanna fall asleep or anything. I cannot tell what those little monsters are up to when I'm idle. Lately, I haven't seen any good movies. The best one I've seen was "Following". It's a black and white film made around 1999. Very interesting. Have you all noticed how many B-movies they are coming out with!? They are popping out like scabies lesions. We got, 'Doll Graveyard', 'Jigsaw', 'The Despiser'... basic crap. I'm just glad I have an MVP pass or I'd be jipped. |

I don't know, it seems like over the last few years, movies have been getting a little better. Even the big budget special effects movies seem to be putting a little effort towards some kind of depth in their plot and characters. More of the bad movies these days seem to because of a failed premise, not just from lack of effort.
Look at horror movies now versus 5 years ago. They've went from pointless, "see how many people we can show being murdered in two horrors" to actual suspenseful thrillers, like the Saw movies. Also, sequels are getting better. I don't think I've seen a sequel that came close to being as good as the original until a few years ago. Now there getting more common. Of course, there are always exceptions, like Fantastic 4. That was just sad. |

V for Vendetta was pretty good for a new movie. It was kind of refreshing to see something actually worth seeing.

It's interesting to note though that the film industry is having awful sales the last 2 years. Maybe they should listen to us and stop producing shit. |
