I'm not saying I will quit, but I might. My first SMW hack wasn't too well received, and my second one is so glitch-laiden that it's also gonna suck. I had a backup, but my hard drive crapped out. (it's not the first one to die on me) I was working on a hack using SDW 3, but that was destroyed when my first HD died. I'm almost convinced that these problems are signs that I shouldn't be doing this. I've been told that I'm persistent, but I think I'm just stubborn. When I quit Robotrek, I was pretty upset at first, but then I realized it's just a game, and I learned that RPGs just aren't my kind of game. I've stuck to platformers ever since. Do you think I should give up or keep going?

Keep going. You have very good potential as a ROM hacker. Don't take irrational criticisms some people give you too seriously, especially if they are blatent trolls. They are irrelevant. Remember, there's always a way to make things work. Some projects might look inferior and weak at first, but if you pull through to the end, it will usually turn out well. Don't give up, you can make a Better Hack. Legoman wasn't so good, but he keep'd trying and then his Hacks are looking Goodly. (Stupid English) |

If you don't give up, learn to make levels that aren't full of glitches and with original, decent levels with decent palettes. Otherwise, yes. Give up.

Originally posted by Glyph Phoenix He sorta has a point, I hate to admit. He's not saying give up for sure, just make sure that your levels aren't filled with glitches and have nice designed levels, otherwise it will just be another crappy noob hack that we don't want to see. Anyway I say give it another try, and make sure you work very hard on making fun levels free of glitches. I haven't actually played your hack so I am just giving advice by what these people say. If you still can't produce something decent after that, then maybe SMW hacking isn't for you. |

While it's certainly your own choice whether to quit or not, I think that if you stick it out, you will have a lot more fun.
If my own experiences starting out are any indication, extensive rom hacking is slow to start, and while doing quick "remake the levels" hacks is tempting, it behooves you to learn those more advanced tactics so that not only is your current hack better, but you learn more for down the road. And with knowledge and creativity, you can make great work. If you don't want to work hard, don't expect a well-recieved hack. |

Keep on rolling girl, don't quit just yet, I used to suck, but now I'm a lot better, but maybe a break is better than all out quitting; I'm supporting you, you'll be fine after a while...

I don't think you should quit. See, you need something no hack has, that includes graphics, enemies, and level design. It may take time, but if you put in enough effort, you may just make one of the few very good looking hacks. Go for it.

Stop caring what people think about you. If you wanna quit, then quit. If you wanna keep hacking, keep hacking. Its that simple.
Usually, these types of threads tend to be a cry for attention, if that is the case, leave it alone. |

I've decided that I'm not gonna quit, but I am going on a hacking hiatus for awhile. I've been hacking every day since I first got Lunar Magic. I think I need to take a break before I post another lousy noob hack.

That's the spirit! Observe the good hacks and such, and come back when you have ideas on what to do right.

Which is kind of ridiculous to me, as I really don't think you're that good. On a side note, considering the low quality of most hacks around, I wouldn't even think about bragging about being "one of the best", as that doesn't mean much at all even if it was true. |

lolol
Quit only if you "really" feel that worthless, but if you stop beating yourself up, then go ahead and continue. (edited by Atma on 04-11-06 04:47 PM) (edited by Atma on 04-11-06 04:48 PM) (edited by Atma on 04-11-06 04:49 PM) (edited by Atma on 04-11-06 04:50 PM) |
