Are ban times coded into the board, or does someone have to remember to remove them?

Someone has to remember to remove them, and care enough to do so.
The latter has been the cause of many late unbannings. |

There once was a ban timer that went only up until 24 hours, but that was in 1.A3. Now, they just have to remember.

Ban timing would be a fairly useless thing anyhow. All the banned user has to do in the scenario that their unbanning is not remembered is PM an admin to tell them that their banning is up. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, softbans were an emergency/minor offense thing that could be used if necessary.
So, say a spammer turned up and just started crapflooding, they could be softbanned in the interim till an admin came with a real banstick |

I used to think there was a timer, but.. I figured that out when I got on staff.
If a user isn't unbanned when we said they will be, then like asdf said, they can PM a staffer and we'll take care of it. People that rereg when they don't get unbanned... |

Eh. I think the current way of handling bans is the best one.
Because we all know Xk and timers don't mix well. |

That's very true. Maybe that's why we no longer have softbans! YOU'VE SOLVED THE MYSTERY!!!!!

Thoughtless, you are a genius. I can only imagine the possibilties of the bad events that could've happened if softbans still existed. Like everyone being banned for 24 years.

I think that if Xkeeper wrote in an unban timer, then when it got to zero, rather than unbanning the user, it would erase all traces of that user's existence. And not just on the board, but on all of the internet. Somehow.

Originally posted by Thoughtless Timers only don't mix with me when I haven't slept in a while (which, lately, is turning into a daily occurance) Really, most timers work well. It's just that when one of them messes up (not often, amazingly) I have enough time to fix it before it's supposed to go off. Which is why you should generally make sure that stuff works first, but... |

Generally, XKeeper's timers work fine from my understanding; it's user (READ: XK) input error that causes the catastrophes.
Take the blow-up-the-board timer for instance. It worked exactly like it was supposed to; the reason the board blew up was because XK was screwing around with it and accidentally set the timer to 10AM of that day--which had already passed. GAME AVER. |

Well except that you linked to thread.php without specifying a thread. (Well OK, the timer works, but the rest of the page doesn't. )
Originally posted by Danielle Soft bans didn't change name colours, so yeah, could be a problem. |
