Guess what I found out today while asking my crush to the prom.
She is already going to the prom with her boyfriend. Just now I found out she had a boyfriend. I guess I just was too nervous to ask her to the prom. It was really hard to do. Whats worse is that she has this boyfriend and never told me about it. I never felt a crush until I met her. Yes, I know. I'm dumb. Ugly. And even maybe my voice is slow.... I am so sad... I'm going to have to chalk this up to experience. Have a crush and you get smushed. |

That's really one of the most difficult things in general, is finding out whether a girl is dating someone. I've found a number of times that I've hit things off with a girl really well (or at least I thought I did) and then she mentions something about her boyfriend.
It's a bit easier in college if you check out their 'relationship status' on their facebook page. Though that's not always complete or accurate, it's been some use to me before. Ah, facebook, if only you'd been around my freshman year... |

Originally posted by Shyguy No. No you aren't. These are natural feelings because of what happened. I know... I've felt them too. You seem like a good guy overall. You may have your flaws, yes, but... you will ALWAYS overestimate them when something like that happens. I can't tell you to try to get over it, because I know that it takes time... But just remember that you're not alone. Lots of guys (and girls, if they're the ones asking) have that happen, and they always will. And yes, if you have crushes on people, a decent part of the time you'll get hurt. But another large part of the time, it'll give you something to hope for, something to be happy about. (In case you're wondering, something similar happened to me a bit over a year ago. I finally worked up the courage to tell the girl I had a crush on (my first, also) about it, only to find out that she had a boyfriend, one which she had gotten in between when I got the crush and when I admitted it. That kinda wrecked my emotional state for a LONG time.) Oh, and on a random note... if you think it'd bother you too much, it's not THAT big a deal to miss your prom. I skipped mine. Went out and watched Star Wars. It was a good night for me... And quite a bit cheaper, too. Of course, I've had people yell at me about it, but they don't really matter. |

Why not just go by yourself and just hang out with friends? That's how I spent my Homecomings, I'm sure the prom isn't too different.

dances are overrated.
i can guarantee you'll have more fun at home or out with a few friends rhater than listening to some DJ play crappy music. |

I agree. Dances aren't all that great, and besides that, they're expensive. At least they are at my school. You could have a lot more fun at home with some friends you want to hang out with, no idiots, no annoying music, just things you want to do with friends you enjoy. I really don't see why you're so upset anyway, crushes come and go for a reason. They're just crushes. =\

Your not that ugly; I think the "M" on your top hat would look great at the prom!
Just kidding. I've been in the same pickle as you, but this girl I was with was 18 yr. old cheating on me with a 14 yr. old; how sick was that! Just remember, someone always has it worse than you... |

Seriously. Don't go to prom. I've been to 5 formal events. None of them are any good. They're expensive and boring and you've expectations that aren't met. Unless you have a date that you're close to (no first time dates here!) it is really quite a dull experience. You put on a happy face and dance like a fool.
Screw that, save yourself the headache and the money and go do something else. |
