Well, I think the title explains itself We have managed to translated this doomed game (it was dificult indeed!) based on that fabulous translation from Lina Chan and Neill Corlett from scratch (I mean, wtihout any help from Neill nor other romhackers).
If you want to get the patch, go to http://www.nekein.com/magno (in spanish). I am also making the insertor utility I programmed suitable for translations to other languages, but it is not complety finished yet. Maybe is anyone interested in it, maybe translating it into Brazilian/Portugues, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian....? |

I didn't use your patch, man.
I took a savestate from the German version, took the graphic from VRAM and and recompressed it into the game. Anyway, if there is any problem about using the same graphic, I will modify it in the next version I release, although I think the new graphic will be pretty much the same as the current one and will say too "Secret of Mana 2". |

No, no, I wasn't trying to say you used my patch, I was just asking if I could use your credits "Secret of Mana 2" logo in the next version of my patch since mine doesn't have one.
By the way, what form of compression does the logo use? I found the area in the ROM the logo was stored and copied it between the three ROMs (Japanese, English, German). |

Yes, of course, you may use anything you like in the patch. I have just changed the logo to darken the borders a bit, but I will updated the patch in some weeks. The compression scheme was LZ for the title screen and the ASM code which decompress it is attached to this post as "SoM2_title_logo_decoder.asm". The compression scheme for the logo in the credit screen was some kind of RLE with pattern: the chunk of data begins with a bit-pattern in a byte: if the bit is '0', the byte to the output ir read from the input; if the bit is '1', then the byte sent to the output is the the one which was outputted two bytes before the last one; this way, the compression ratio is higher for 4BPP tiles as each two layers are empaired. The code for decompressing it is in the same file at the bottom. |

nice work, but honestly, i think that the logo both of you took from the german patch sucks. alot.
when i built myself a cartridge of the german patch like 3 or 4 years ago, i made my own logos and put em into the rom, because i hated the previous ones so much. here they are: titlescreen: titlescreen tileset. of course, you have to separate it and build two different 4bpp palettes for the "2" and the "secret of mana" part. this is a copy i found on my hd, but its not the original tileset, which includes the copyright and fairy sprites. you'll have to copy and paste a bit here: intro logo: tileset for that. just 16 colors, one 4bpp pal: you are free to use them, but if you do, give credit where due. well then, as i said, you are free to use mine, but i understand if you want to do it yourself.
however, mine is as close to the japanese original as it gets in terms of style, imho. if i remember correctly, i rendered it in 3d studio max. maybe i also have the original 3d mesh somewhere... gotta browse through that pile of backup cds, i guess. ~_= (edited by d4s on 03-21-06 09:43 AM) |

Your logo is better, but I think the one I used matches the original better. Your "2" is a hundred times better, by the way. A combination of the two would be perfect, I might look into doing that later. | |||

I think the only things that deserve improving in the title logo of the spanish translation are the 'c' in 'Secret' and the '2'. Man, specially the latest.
