So as I'm sure most of you know, I've been studying abroad in Oxford for this past quarter. I got here on January 4th, and I'm leaving tomorrow, March 20th, two and a half months later. It's been a really good experience, and I'm glad to have done it. I've made good friends in the program and a few at Oxford, though I don't know if I'll stay in good contact with those in the future.
It's been good to be away, and do something different, as well as my travelling to Rome for a few days in early February, but at the same time I'm about ready to go home now. It's been fun, but it's also been a lot of work, and I'm ready to just relax, which I'll get to do for two weeks before my last quarter at college. I went kinda crazy on the souvenirs for myself and others, largely since I don't know when I'll be able to come back here. If anyone else has the opportunity to study abroad at some point, I highly recommend it. It's a very worthwhile experience. For now, though, I'm going back to the USA tomorrow morning...and it'll be good to come home. |

Actually, I'm applying for studies abroad in my third year. I'm trying to find a partner university that offers its courses in English. I HAVE found out that in Scandinavia there are a few universities in Sweden and Norway that offer courses on Viking era history in English. There is also Mediaeval Studies courses in Cambridge. There are also Urban Planning courses offered at University of Tokyo in English.
So, yeah. |

Welcome back! (Remember to change where you are.) I hope you had a good time in the UK. Now that you have come back, you'll find many differences. Good Luck!

I'll find many differences?
What have they changed in the past few months? |

Well, there WAS that invasion by giant reptilians from Zeta Reticuli...But that's about it.
That said, I voted for Kodos. |

Since I live in Cali... I can really say welcome back!
I think you'll appreciate the weather here over the weather there, that's something to look forward to. And, you know, the rest of your life you have at Stanford. So in England.. it's... almost 1 AM? You'll be leaving soon then? |

Well, I'll be spending 2 weeks in Cleveland, and THEN back to Stanford for my last term.
As for when I'm leaving, not quite yet. My flight leaves at 10:30, meaning I need to get to the airport between 8:30 and 9, and the bus I take to the airport takes two and a half hours, so I need to be up at the bus station by a bit after 6, and it's about a 20 minute walk with luggage, so I'll be leaving the house a bit after 5:30. And I feel like I could sleep through the alarm, so I've decided screw it, I can sleep on the plane, I'm staying up tonight. |

Ziff, it would be awsesome if you applied to some university in Lund or something. It's not too far from where I happen to live.
Meh, I plan to visit USA someday myself but not for studying. I suck at actually talking English. I struggle enough doing work in Swedish... (edited by Ailure on 03-19-06 07:57 PM) |

I don't blame you for not sleeping although I probably would make a futile attempt to do so... 4 hours > 0 hours. :\
I think the time zones are going to hit you. At least the first day or two... |

Well, I just get nervous about potentially oversleeping when it would be a serious problem like it would be in this case. Besides, I don't have much to do on the plane, especially if I don't want to see the movie(s) playing. This way I'll be more likely to be able to sleep on the plane.

Sounds nice, Sky. Although I really do think that you go to sleep for a while (ideally when you get back), even if you do run the risk of oversleeping. As Colin mentioned, it would reduce the risk of being hit by the time zone change. There's no need to be nervious. (edited by asdf on 03-19-06 11:28 PM) |

Oh, I definitely won't be worried about oversleeping once I get back. I'm worried now about going to sleep and sleeping through my alarm, and then missing when I need to get up to go catch my bus, and thus miss my plane back to the US.
I have little planned once I'm back home. I can sleep all day if need be. And I may do just that. |

If that's the case, why not just go to sleep right now? You'd be pretty set to not oversleep that way.

Um, because at this point, I'm planning on LEAVING for the bus station in 40 minutes.

+5 time difference, you know.
Could be worse. Could be travelling to Australia or something silly like that which can totally warp your system. |

Oh I...
I misread his post. My suggestion then would be... Coffee. Lots of coffee. |

You're talking to a college student here. I have no problem staying up when I need to do so
I don't really like coffee that much. Caffinated tea is infinitely better. |

I don't like coffee either. My prefered method of staying awake...is with apples. More effective, and healthier too!
