Here's the story... my parents went upstate for a weekend and left me and my sister an open house. First thing that happens? Huge ass party. Next day? Huge ass party. Today, they're going to be home by 7... and I need to de-ordorize the house. Cause it smells like cigarettes. Now, what I'm doing so far is this:
1. Sweeping/Mopping all floors 2. Polishing all the wood in the house (it smells grand) 3. Opened all the windows 4. I'm actually boiling good smelling spices in water... so it smells like I've been cooking food or something like that. 5. My sister and I are headed down the block to pick up some fragrance free oust.. which, according to some friends, kills ALL odors and leaves no scents behind. 6. We're also getting fabreeze and some swiffers. Now, some downsides are that.. 1. We don't have a vacuum. 2. No baking soda is to be found. 3. My parents are comming home in about 8 hours. So... is there ANYTHING ELSE that anyone knows that I should be doing to de-odorize my house of that "after house party" scent? It's greatly appreciated. |

I've found scented candles or things such as Glade plug-ins happen to work quite effectivly in masking some or most odors, however, if you don't usualy use things like that, it may draw attention/suspicion as to why you'd be using some sort of air freshner. Then again, it might not, and I might just be paranoid. Either way, it'd be wroth a shot. Good luck getting it all fixed up before they get home, though

If you're gonna go buy oust, buy some baking soda too.
And maybe only having one party would have made more sense, to give you a day and half to clean, rather than just 8 hours. Just a thought. |

Yeah I didn't want to have a party yesterday. But I went to band practice.. and when I got back there were like fifty drunk people in here. Thanks to my sister!
Hahah.. whatever, it ended up being fun. So yes... Oust and Fabreeze made the house smell dayum good. Escept CVS doesn't carry baking soda? What is that? I wanted to know if you guys maybe had any tricks up your sleeve for this sort of thing... but I guess I covered all the bases? |

Close all the windows and doors, seal up any room that smells like cigarettes, and burn as much incense and scented candles as you possibly can in those rooms.

Won't it be painfully obvious if they come home and the place reeks of incense?
Like, you light on casually, that's different than having many burning in many places within the house. |

Cigar eaters are a good alternative. You live in New York, so there is probably a decent cigar shop around somewhere. They're these nasty little candles that neutralize most smells.

I would wash clothes and most of the cloths in the house if possible... They might reak of smoke and booze. If you live in NY then DON'T open the windows, it will let in the smell. I would get out some fans.

If that's the case and you're short on time, I'd just spray the Febreeze on whatever might soak in the smell. :\ If it seems to work on one thing, then... go nuts. |

Got away with it.
I fabreezed and ousted everything. Only thing is... my mom found cigarette butts in her teabags. We blamed it on a friend, because... she did leave them there. That's one thing... after you have a party like that.... there will be remnants everywhere. And I live in Staten Island, which isnt' as bad smelling as Manhattan... so opening the windows isn't a terrible idea. I was shocked that I got away with it though.. because even after I ousted and stuff.. it still smelled bad. I dunno.. I guess they just weren't sniffing for anything suspicious. I dunno. |

Or they know what happened (which is highly likely) and realize that you're kids and stuff like that happens.

Who the hell puts cigarette butts in teabags? And actually, my car has had cigarette smell for like the last month even though I keep windows cracked almost year round.

I have no clue. I think it was my friend Matt... who is more than ditzy at times.
I really don't think they suspect anything. If they did they'd jump on the oppurtunity to make us look irresponsible... because my parents like to make me feel like I'm not capable of doing anything correctly. |

Here's how I'd have done it:
Mom: Why does the house smell like cigarettes? Me: I dunno. You'd be surprised how often that works. |
