Yeah, I saw that, I was happy, cause my birthday's in November.
But then I read the part about it NEEDING a hard drive, and that sony doesnt know if it will include it in there in all PS3s, and that you may have to buy it seperately. Come on, what kind of crazy ass shit is that? Microsoft rip off much? XD I think I lost a little of my faith in them after reading that part. |

Originally posted by Amanda If they don't include the HDD, it'll only be a cheap marketing plot in order to make the PS3 seem cheaper, thus selling more consoles, but pissing off many people in the proccess. Okay, so all of this PS3 stuff seems impressive. Being the avid Nintendo fan that I am, I sure hope they can compete. By the way, anyone hear about the little fiasco Sony's hard-ass attitude has gotten them into over Dual Shock? Thanks to Dark Flamer for the info http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/03/13/sony_dual_shock_patent http://news.com.com/Sony+loses+round+in+DualShock+patent+case/2100-1047_3-6049177.html Quoted from someone on OCremix: "Now, the big deal about all of this is that everyone else, including 3rd party developers, Microsoft and even Nintendo, have happily paid the licensing fees to use the force feedback technology. Sony, however, has basically told the patent holders to go fuck themselves and generally act like only they know anything and everyone else are a bunch of useless trollmonkies. In a way, it's sorta like the rootkit fiasco, only different. Sony pulls attitude, but this time they were firmly slapped down for trying to fight it when even they admitted they were in the wrong. Then they turned around and accused Nintendo of lying and cheating, upon which they produced a contract saying they were already paying licensing fees to Immersion for the rumble technology and the judge laughed Sony out of court for living in their own little world that has nothing to do with reality. And if the injunction appeal fails, which it more than likely will since they've lost all the related trials so far, that would mean that on the spot, any and all Sony products involved with the technology will be forced to be pulled from the market, until a time when they either compensate and get into an agreement properly with Immersion, or until they completely remove the force feedback function from their controllers, including the ones currently packaged with the console itself. Right at a point that is very time-sensitive for Sony, where they can't afford nation-wide recalls of all unsold hardware, for the sake of reboxing everything and having to switch up manufacturing plans on the system they're trying to phase out. It's that, or they rush into an agreement with Immersion and pay all the old licensing fees that are owed, which is around $1bn USD(over 100M PS2 units sold that use the technology, plus the countless spare controllers and as far back as the PS1 as well, at 5% licensing fee as is standard for them with all the other companies, who haven't been giving them crap and treating them like it), perhaps with interest applied on top of that. Really, it's a very crippling blow to Sony if they lose the injunction appeal, whether or not they can handle reboxing all the unsold console units. Right now, losing $1bn is almost more than the entire company can afford, when they're trying to push ahead into the BluRay and PS3 technology. Keep in mind, when a company runs out of money, it doesn't get to run in the red long before it's forced to file for bankruptcy or bankruptcy protection, depending on the region. Their own ego over the span of almost 8 years could be the very blow that kills Sony, even before the new races have a chance to begin." All Sony fanboys say: "Gotta hate Nintendo fanboys...jumping all over any fuck-ups Sony make, while denying Nintendo's own fuck-ups... ...Oh wait! There are no Nintendo fuck-ups! ...Well, Virtual Boy ofcourse. |

Call me a skeptic, but I don't think Sony's going to have a very merry Christmas season. Based on production figures and all that, we might be looking at a 360 scenario where supply can't meet demand. And we all know how well THAT worked out...
Of course, if a market has to be dropped in preparation for a 2007 release instead, it'll be Europe. |

sucks how they delayed it until november, on the news they were talking about it, and apparently before they postponed the release it was due for next month, or may, although I may have heard something wrong, but im sure it said next month was the original release date...oh well, that just means I can get it for christmas, assuming they are not short and there are none left...

Everyone knew the system had no chance in hell of coming out next month to begin with. No games completed, no price/release announcements, no new real info...

yeah, true, better it be november then too soon, besides, I can afford it in november, or just get it for christmas, theres no way in hell I could have afforded it next month. and releasing a console early is just askin for trouble.

It'll be an interesting Christmas for sure if both the PS3 and Revolution are out... but if Sony run into serious supply problems, they're asking for trouble. Nintendo (and Microsoft) would benefit from that.

Isn't microsoft already, like, dying now? I mean not really dying since they're a complete giant, it's just. I can't think of any good games for XBox 360. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 03-15-06 11:52 PM) |

They're definitely not dying... well, if you take Japan out of the equation.
If you just include Japan, then they're dying a horrible death and I honestly don't think anything can save them in that market. |

Heard about this on the news. My local news said that it was delayed because they had to fix something with the disk drive.
Yeah... I am sure that is the only reason... Eh, I wasn't going to get a PS3. Nothing seems to appeal to me about it and I have no clue what games are going to be on it. As with all game systems, I have to know what games are going to be on it before I go and buy a system. Which is why I decided at the last minute not to buy the 360 because there were no games on there that appealed to me. Plus, after playing the demo of Project Gotham Racing 3, I could not stand how the graphics were the most important thing to the system. And if Sony does the same thing with the PS3, I'll have to hope the Revolution is going to be good. |

I'm not sure whether I'll get a PS3 for myself. I am, however, planning on pre-ordering a few and selling them for a nice profit, if that ends up being feasible to do. Look what happened with the 360.

I don't believe it.
Not until I see it in the computers at work or I see it on Sony's website or I have the system in my hand, and the interactive in my store. I'm sorry, its going to take a lot for me to believe that it's coming out. I still tell customers at work that the date is still a rumor. I'm tired of all the talks about release dates. Its just all over the place. Heck, I can say that FF12 has been moved to late winter of '07 and a bunch of people will believe me and pass the news. Thats how it works and thats how easily people are swayed to believe in something. But, this is something, and I won't just take it lightly. This news is still somewhat good. I also heard on the radio yeterday, that Sony announced that the Spring launch has been moved to fall. I was like, "no shit". Spring launch my ass. Heh. Sorry about that rant, I'm just tired of people calling and coming into the store thinking that we know when the Ps3 will come out.... ........April 2008. XD |

According to gamespot, the PS3 will supposedly come with a 60GB hdd with linux installed, heres what the article said(got it in an email)
" Hot off the presses, folks, the PlayStation 3 won't be out until November of this year. That's in Japan and North America, the first-ever worldwide launch for Sony. We've got scads of new info on the powerful new console, straight out of Sony's press conference that just ended in Japan. How about the newly announced 60GB hard drive, preloaded with Linux and possibly included in every PS3 out of the box? Then there's the Xbox Live-style online service, complete with media downloads, competitive gaming, and all that fun stuff. I don't think this delay really surprises anyone who's been paying attention in recent months--the Blu-ray format is still being hashed out, and of course they can't launch the console without finalizing its game storage medium first. At least it's nice to know where things stand, finally. Now how much is it gonna cost? " |

Honestly, I think the price will be from $399 to $450. I really doubt that it'll be set to $499. At least I hope it won't be.

Sony is really pushing Blu-Ray so I guess they want to get it right or at least make it so insanely complicated that it won't be worth it to try to beat the system? Although I know there are individuals who will try.
I'm probably going to hold of getting the first gen PS3 and wait for a few revisions before buying it. Any word of when Nintendo is going to release the next gen? |
