Apparently, if you call into Bill O'Reilly's show and say anything "untoward" or "obscene" about someone on TV, he'll hand your name over to Fox Security and you'll get a "little visit" and apparently they'll tell your "local authorities" as well. All this guy did was bring the name of a newscaster and he had his number handed over to and now he's going to get a little visit:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200603030010 Thank God I stopped watching O'Reilly years ago. That guy has always been questionable, but now he's like Herr Goebbels. |

If you follow the link to the caller's site, you'll see this guy has actually been calling the show repeatedly and mentioning Olbermann just to bug O'Reilly, I think he realised who it was and that's why he disconnected him, and went on that rant.
On the subject of Bill O'Reilly, yeah he's an idiot. Not idiot as in, I disagree with him so he must be an idiot, but instead as in a guy who says any stupid thing that pops into his head, with little or no thought as to whether it makes any sense or not. But he says it all in a self-important tone in hopes that no one will notice he has no idea what he's talking about. (edited by emcee on 03-05-06 04:34 AM) |

Originally posted by beneficii Goebbels had better speaking skills, I find. Far more rousing. Had he been a member of any other party in Germany he clearly could have lent his skills to just as much effect as he did with the NAZIs. But alternative history is neither here nor there. O'Reilly is a creep, I only watch him because he is fairly entertaining. You don't really learn anything or think about what he is saying, but damn do you laugh! |

What pisses me off the most about O'Reilly, is that he sits there acts like he is a fair and unbiased reporter, when he is far from it.

The best thing about the Bill O'Rielly show is the Colbert Report.
And I do what Wurl does in response to Bill O'Rielly.... I LOL and then cry. |

Honestly, I think it's only fair that he acts as if he's a fair and unbiased reporter...because people on the other side do the same thing, and are largely believed, falsely, to be. So why have a double standard on that?

Tell me a reporter that's liberally biased. I dare you.
Around here, every singe station has run anti-labor pieces (anti-union transit strike), anti-social security pieces... and stuff like that. And I live in NYC.. the "liberal center of the world". Don't make me laugh. NYC has conservatized itself as well as anyplace else. |

Dude, CANADA's media is abnormally conservative. CanWest, Globe & Mail, SUN, TorStar, etc. all have centre-right (or just out and out right) leanings.
Left wing (not liberal) media is pretty much completely extinct and is maligned by the main stream media which fails to air or give proper investigative prowess to various social ills. |

Well, Dan Rather, the most obvious one, is long gone, and I don't tend to watch TV news, so I can't really help you on that one, but the liberal media is very much active in all aspects of the mainstream media...well, socially and politically liberal, anyway, there is some truth to my communist friend's slightly exaggerated assertion that the media is extremely pro-corporate.
Running a few pieces that are against a socialist agenda doesn't make a station conservative; it just means that it's not 100% radical left all the time. In fact, most news isn't radically liberal...it's a subtle bias that is actually probably unintentional most of the time based on the political leanings of those who make the news, rather than an attempt to sow the seeds to rebellion, so to speak...which in some rare cases it is. |

You obviously misunderstood my point, which was that just because something isn't INSANELY liberal doesn't mean that it's not liberal.
Edit: Also, no, not the same at all. Look at the examples that were used in the post I was replying to...those are things which a socialist agenda would report differently on, but not an atheist agenda or the others. As many people do far too often, you're labeling based on far too little information. (edited by Skydude-felinian on 03-07-06 03:11 PM) |

Generally when a media (as many do) run op-eds that are in favour of conservative measures (as the ones in Canada that I have listed...which are, by the way, the biggest media outlets) generally means they are conservative.
Suffice to say go and look at the media, the general media, and tell me which ones are left-wing. Not just "liberal" which is a wishy-washy term that holds no water in serious political discussion due to its over use. Now, go and tell me which ones are DEFINITIVELY right wing - tell me which ones have economic and social issues covered with a right wing slant. edit:: they are hardly "socialistic". Socialism died out in the 90s in any REAL form. Strikes? You could say those are things that are fascistic. Social-security? You could say that things like that are this that or the other thing. Evidently you misunderstand the tenants of "socialism". (edited by Plus Sign Abomination-fel on 03-07-06 03:18 PM) |

Socialism died out in the 90s in any REAL form, yes...but it's survived in a general anti-corporate view of the world that continues very much to this day. Don't start lecturing me about things you obviously don't really understand yourself.
I also can't really say for certain how things in Canada are, so I won't argue with you on that. Just know that in the states, for the most part, mainstream media apart from Fox tends toward the left-wing side of things. And how do you distinguish "liberal" from "left-wing" anyway? |
