NICE to see some people are actually following the curling.
Newfoundland has cancelled school tomorrow afternoon so that all the kids can instead watch their rink go for gold. Isn't that nice? |

Just flicked it on, and did they ever pick the right one. Spoiler: Seriously, putting up six in one end? Coulda been seven, but the Canadian skip didn't really feel like it. "Sorry guys, couldn't get my heart rate down." After six ends, Canada 10, Finland 3. Yeeouch. |

That was just absolute destruction curling-wise. That's all it takes... one flawless end.
Meanwhile, in hockey... I know a lot of people who had a Russia/Czech final booked for Sunday. I-D-I-O-T-S. Finland/Sweden, which is what I wanted in the first place since that's the big rivalry. And sorry, Swedes... I'm pulling for Finland. GO SAKU! |

Iīm not surprised to see that youīre pulling for Finland, Kitty. Look how it went for the Czechs. And theyīre a good team.
Finland will go the same way. |

Finland never let Russia in the game at all though. And Russia were picked by a lot of people to go all the way.
How great it would be to see Montreal's Saku Koivu win gold. |

If Canada can have a good final day on the track... we might finish 3rd in medal count. That was our goal going in.
We already creamed the record set in Salt Lake, though. 17 medals then, 20 now. |

We'll need a good day ourselves to go ahead of Germany into first place in the overall medal standings.

I canīt wait to see Colin's reaction of Sweden winning the OG hockey tournament.
I said that we were going to win and what happened? (edited by Piranha on 02-26-06 04:28 PM) |

So I guess Germany won the most medals, then? The closing ceremony, like the opening one, had lots of people with fire/sparks coming out of their heads. It didn't really seem that choreographed, either, just running around randomly, pretty much.

Sweden got SOOOOOOO lucky at the end of that game... seriously.
And I swear that they have to crack down on these STUPID goldenpalace.com people, as one of them managed to interrupt a speech today. Lock them up. |

Kind of disappointing for USA, who really cleaned up at Salt Lake City last time around. =\
Either way, twas great entertainment. |

You still did good. Technically, you should have won fewer medals since the host country always drops off a fair bit the next Winter Olympics.
Plus you had Bode Miller, and... well... um... he's Bode Miller. |

I have to wonder if this is a general trend that will continue. The US has really cleaned up at the Olympics for the most part for the past few decades. And then in the last summer games the basketball team ended up getting TROUNCED...and now this. Perhaps our athletic day in the sun is coming to an end?

You really didn't do that badly. The dropoff (since you were hosts in 2002) should have been above 40% and you were below that. Meanwhile, Canada's Olympic Committee predicted 3rd place and people here were giving them hell for that idea... and look where we ended up. We're in fantastic shape if we keep up this pace for 2010.
The US did fine, it's just that their favorites either pulled out (Kwan) or spent too much time boozing before the events (Bode). |

Yeah, Kwan pulling out was pretty crappy. And usually our men's hockey team does well, but this year we lost almost right off the bat. Yeesh.

Men's hockey doing well? Since winning the gold medal back in 1980, the US Men's Hockey team has won one medal since then, Silver at Salt Lake...
