| This has actually been a rather serious issue a number of times, but what it really comes down to is whether the state will allow religion to operate or not. If a guy is on his way to getting caught, then it's not like he can avoid detection by confessing his sins. So it's not like it's a horrible impediment in the justice process. If priests were even ALLOWED to disclose information obtained in confession, let alone demanded to do so, that cripples the practice, as people would be frightened of going to confession, even if there's no legal actions to bring against them, as the fear of social ostracism is a serious one.
But on a lighter note, that is indeed a hilarious news story. |
