You put these on your roof, and make elecrticity at your house. A guy from this company came to my house just now, talking for an hour about "how it rocks". It does decrease your Electric bills, and you can even sell Electricity - but, the panels cost a fortune. Discuss. (edited by Ikuzou on 02-06-06 01:03 AM) |

As an American, I'm offended by your lack of oil consumption.

Putting "Discuss." at the end of a post is not funny, new, or interesting. It makes you look stupid.
Also: Solar panels are nice. Lots of people here use them to heat their pools, and it saves money... though yes, panels are rediculously expensive. A few years ago, a 1.5V panel cost nearly $4... |

I'd totally do that if it was cheaper. But it does cost way too much for it to be worthwhile.
Plus they are only effective during the day and they operate best when the sky is clear. But still worth getting if they could be had cheaper. |

Dosen't work too well in Sweden though, considering they have a very low capacity half a year or so. :/
Still, if they get close to 100% effeciency it would be nice. Hell I think the plants in the nature have higher effeciency than human-made solar panels. |

solar panels pay dividends after 7 or 8 years...supposedly
You don't need a lot of sunny weather--I recall someone living in the mountains near my house where is cloudy 75% of the year and when it rains, it pours and they are powered entirely only solar power... |

Originally posted by Ailure IŽd like to see panels that could run on most of the weathers. When that works, THEN weŽre talking worthwhile. "A few years ago, a 1.5V panel cost nearly $4..." I assume that that panel wasnŽt big either. So I donŽt think I wanna know the prize of these ones. neotransotaku: If you want that to work, the solar panels must be INCREDIBLY powerful. |

Originally posted by Ran-chanIt a regular solar power setup, there aren't different styles of types. Plus, this guy's house is no larger than i say two 10' x 10's rooms... so maybe that is why he can be independent from the electric company... |

When and if I own my own house, I will definitely look into that. Until then, it has no bearing on me.
You know what other form of alternate power is interesting? Wave energy. |

Once we learn to harness the power of a black hole, energy will never be a problem again!
Welcome to the year 30303 ... Anywho... solar power is nothing new... and if it was sunny 24/7... then Im sure it would probably be EXTREMELY popular |

Originally posted by geeogree No, it stores the solar energy. So you should be able to use your power at night. I'm going to do that when I'm older, for definite. For now, I can't choose how my parents want to power the house. It's not my choice. |

Originally posted by KATFishif it was extremely popular then it should be popular in hawaii, but I didn't see too many solar power setups in Hawaii. Also, most people are turned off by solar energy because they are too gaudy looking or don't work with the look of the house, you have a ton of black on your roof and some people don't like that |

I just remembered that solar power recently became viable because of the development of solar power at 12 volts, so it can be stored, as before that, it wasn't stored and mostly useless.

Originally posted by Ailure That first part is probably never gonna happen, we don't get anywhere near 100% of energy from any resource that we use for energy. And plants in nature do have much better efficiency than anything else in the world. That's why studying plants and photosynthesis is so important, because we haven't come anywhere near to taking any resource and getting out the return that plants get out of the sun. Solar power is a huge startup expense but after a while it's only maintainance costs which makes for a wise investment if you plan on staying in the same place for a long time, like 10+ years. Also, the weather isn't really the big issue with solar power it's more the amount of time that the sun is out during the day which is why people further north or south can't really use solar panels because there are large periods of time without much sun during the day whereas people between the two tropics get more than enough sun exposure for solar to be a viable investment. I know when I'm capable of getting a house I'll probably take a very serious look into solar panels, gotta do what you can to keep the world going strong to support all of us who live on it. |

I don't think it's wise to use solar panels to give your home electricity. It is economical, but if everyone had these, it would cost far too much to repair, especially in the urban settings.
take a look at this site for kyocera's prices...http://www.solarproductsource.com/storehome.aspx?CategoryID=8&ItemID=3992565&referrer=adwords |
