Not really sure if this is the right board, so if a mod wants to, could they move it to the appropriate section?
Yeah, a tree Saturday morning at about 2AM hit the house... It's pretty bad, actually. And of course, seeing as how I am OBVIOUSLY the most lucky person in the entire world, the thing decided to hit my room. Only my room. The tree was big enough and bad enough however, that it's looking like the upper story of my house is going to have to be essentially replaced. That is the hole in my room. It doesn't appear that bad, but the hole is over 3 feet wide and almost two across. Also, that entire corner of the ceiling is broken, (If you look closely,) and has caved in about a foot. There is also a large crack in the wall. Somehow, my window did not break. There is my bed, untouched since the tree hit. You see those little dragon figurines there? They probably would have at least dented my skull when they can flying across my bed, had I been there. Right where the tree hit, there was a bookshelf full of them (That I didn't want in the first place,) and it literally threw the things across the room. Some went over 10 feet across the room and hit the wall on the other side. Now, you want to see the evil behemoth that smashed into my room? There is the base of it. The little house thing on the left is my sister's stupid play house. I don't get it, trees fell on BOTH sides of it, but none actually hit the thing. I would have been happy to see it go, honestly. There is another picture of the thing, and you can see a tiny bit of my house.. And now for an actual Tree Vs. House picture... The top story window on the right is mine, and that picture was taken by me the following day, as I stood atop the tree. It doesn't look too bad, because we had a tarp over the roof by then, but my room was actually hit harder than the Dining Room, which you can see was bludgeoned by tree branched on the far left of the house. And to finish it all off, there is a picture of my backyard and the general destruction. How that swing wasn't hit either, I'll never understand. So yeah, it's looking like repairs are going to be at least $20,000. However, we just switched to US Insurance (That fancy schtuff that only military officers can get,) less than two weeks ago, so it's all covered. |

This being Anya's Corner, I assumed by tree you meant 40 foot tall penis.

Yea, me, too.
But, dude, that is wicked! I mean, ya know, in a bad way. That's a big tree. How the heck did it fall? |

By Wurl's assumption of it being a penis we can point to the reason it fell was probably because it had an orgasm and simply flopped down.
That or not enough viagra. Sucks to be your house Shadic. |

Well, Shadic, be glad you're alive, and I gotta say, good on ya that you got the insurance to cover your house's repairs.
Back when Hurricane Bob hit Rhode Island in 1989, a tree very nearly fell on my house... It clattered across telephone poles, and I only years later realized how close my family was to being destroyed by it. What area of the world do you live in? EDIT: I'll boot this over to General Chat. Seems like an interesting topic of discussion. (edited by Grey on 02-06-06 01:48 AM) |

Yeah, my house caught on fire once. And the fire was in the houses' proverbial pants (aka the basement). (edited by Wurl on 02-06-06 01:49 AM) |

you are very fortunate that you still have a house. Things could obviously be worse if the tree actually fell into the house as I've seen on the news occasionally in my area when it rains.

It was the winds, we had 50-60 mph winds that night, and we had just broken the record in Olympia for straight rainfall... The ground wasn't very hard.
Anyways, I live in Washington. |

Wow.
I live in Spokane, and we got some pretty strong winds over here, but nothing quite like that. So, were you at home (elsewhere in the house, obviously) when that happened? |

I'm guessing that was caused by a polar low. Yeah, it must sort of suck to get a tree right into your house like that.
A tree has never hit our house, but I've seen one get uprooted, and take down our phone line. Though, usually the winds rarely get up to such high speeds in my hometown, because they're slowed down by all the mountains around here. |

Our trees here aren't tall enough to be blown over. Branches break easily though.
Its also flat... God, Kansas sucks, thanks for reminding me. Insurance + your home is standing + you're alive = things could've been worse. |

I was downstairs, in the office when it happened.
I sort of had the "Damn, there's a storm and my room is most in danger." sense going on, so I decided that downstairs on the opposite edge of the house would be a better spot to go. If the power had still been on, I probably would have been in my room, on the phone or the computer... But I was not, so I'm guessing that it was a good thing, eh? Yeah, things could have been worse, but now we've discovered a leak in the pipes this morning, oi. |

Wow, that is my biggest fear. This tree outside of my window comming and crashing into my room. It'd kill me because it'd land exactly where my bed is.
You are so lucky you're alright. That could have done some SERIOUS damage. Pretty big tree. |

That may be true, but its only a 5 minute walk from my house to the store. While you have to pack supplies for a 3 day quest. |
