I've just spotted a second hand Ipod in my local pawn shop for VERY cheap. It's a 60Gb model, (as it's thick), and looks like a 4th Gen model. Now how can I tell if it's an Ipod Photo/Video, is there anything on the back? Was there a non colour 60Gb Ipod? How do I tell them apart?

I thought I had the highest version of the 1-4 generation models with the 40 gb hardrive. Mine was black and white. On the I-pod your looking at can you turn it on? If so it should say like....
Music Photos Settings Games Meh.... The only 60gb I seen was a video. Hope that helps. |

Look at the handy list of model numbers here.
It could be a 60GB 4th generation model, that would be an iPod Photo. If you don't need video and if it's cheap, well... |

It's not THAT cheap, it's £180 (approx, what $300?). But it's still cheaper than a 60Gb Ipod Video.

There's a linux you can install on ipods to play movies and things, but 4th gen models aren't supported. However there's guides to install it on them so it seems it's possible.

The iPod Video is much wider and flatter than the iPod Photo. It's screen has been enlarged to display video in a large enough format as not to appear titchy. When you see the difference, you'll be able to tell them apart easily.

It's a 60Gb Ipod Photo then.
ALright new question.... Is it worth it? (at £180/ $300 USD) |

Originally posted by Uncle Elmo Well, depends. Because that is roughly the same price for the 30 GB iPod Video which is naturally half it's space but does play videos. Also depends on how bad you want it. Because you can simply save another $ 100 and get the 60 Gb iPod Video, same space and has one extra feature. It all comes down to what features you are most interested in and how soon you want the iPod. |

Originally posted by netscape yes 4th gen models are _officially_ supported. You aren't guarenteed anything if it breaks your iPod or you can't get it installed. That being said, it functions just fine. And it finally got simple to install while running Windows (it's always been a breeze if you use Mac, BSD, Linux, or anything else that gives you direct disk access by design of the OS ), read this for more And UE: just put your priorities in order... if all you're after is a simple MP3 player, go for it if you want that much space (I can't imagine how you need that much, but it's your life). Otherwise shop around for cheaper alternatives. |

Originally posted by FreeDOSOriginally posted by netscape I'll second that. Although the iPod Nano isn't officially supported, it has been running perfectly fine for me. And so has iDoom! *drools crazily thinking of all the fun he has been having playing Doom on the go on his Nano* |

Yeah I've played iDoom too, but it's impossible to beat the second level of Doom 2, you can't run. |
